    I.S. 230 students are required to read a minimum of SE book throughout the holiday vacation andlog the reading on the holiday reading log. They are required to read a minimum of 90-120 minutesper dav if they are to increase their reading scores. All students must write a reading response fournights per week during the holidays. In addition, each student is required to complete at least ONEactivity listed below and hand it in on January 3,2011. Any additional activities completed can besubmitted for extra credit.Here's the list of activities to choose from:

    1. Create an advertisement that conveys the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in'text, including figurative language and connotative meaning to show the central idea of thestory as well as the mood and tone in the story.2. Imagine that you are the author of the book you have just read. Suddenly the book becomes abest seller. Write a letter to a movie producer tryrng to get that person interested in making yourbook into a movie. Explain why the story, characters, conflicts, etc., would make a good filmby analyzing how the differences in the points of view of the characters and the audience orreader are created through the use of dramatic irony, suspense or humor. Suggest a filminglocation and the actors to playthe various roles. YOU MAY ONLY USE BOOKS WHICHHAVE NOT ALREADY BEEN MADE INTO MOVIES.3. Write a feature article (with a headline) by providing a sunmary of the text as it might be foundon the front page of a newspaper in the town where the story takes place. Include the theme orcentral idea of the book and analyze its development over the course of the text. Include itsrelationship to the characters, setting, and plot.
