    facilities. Drop by the pool for a swim or a steam, head over

    are endless!

    Coquitlam Parks, Recreation and Culture is offering so many

    new programs, including many introductory classes for the

    absolute beginner. There is no need to feel intimidated

    coming to a new class. Our certified and professional

    instructors will tailor the class to make you feel comfortable,

    target your individual goals and keep you interested.

    This Program Guide is an easy way to discover whats available

    in your community. Flip through the guide to find programs

    and activities for everyone in your family, from kids to

    grandparents. You can try it, learn it and live it all here

    abilities. Take your dog for a run in an off-leash park, catch a tournament at

    Town Centre Park or enjoy the fresh air on a hike through one of our many trails.

    Whether your interests are in fitness, yoga, arts and crafts, dance, swimming,

    woodworking or computers, there is always something new to learn or a new

    We reserve the right to cancel programs. Withdraw 5 days (10 days for camps) prior to start of program for a full refund. Service fees apply when less than 5 days notice provided (10 days for camps). No refunds on 3rd day of class or later.

    Volunteer ServicesIf you are interested in becoming a volunteer you must be 13 years of age or older,

    successfully complete the application process which includes an interview, criminal

    record and reference check, and attend an orientation training session.

    Recreation InclusionCoquitlam Parks, Recreation and Culture strives to include participants

    of all ability levels and attempts to provide volunteer assistance to

    those individuals who require additional support.

    Our volunteers assist with crafts, games and sport activities; they cannot provide personal care. Availability of volunteer support varies.

    Families looking for one-to-one support for registered programs need to complete an information form 2 3 weeks prior to the start of the program.

    Grade 5 Get Active! Grade 6 Stay Active!

    The Grade 5 Get Active! card provides all School District 43

    Grade 5 students with free admission to drop-in activities

    during the school year. The Grade 6 Stay Active! card

    provides 12 free admissions.

    Get Connected, Get ActiveAre you a Coquitlam resident who is looking to connect with

    your community and find out about recreation opportunities?

    Pick up a Coquitlam Trail Map and Guide today!Fall is the best time to explore Coquitlams extensive

    trail system. With over 90 kilometers including a portion of the Trans Canada Trail spanning from coast to coast,

    trail hiking is one of the most requested recreation activities. Our trails can be enjoyed by everyone whether its for fitness, pleasure or viewing wildlife and nature

    opportunities. Coquitlams new pocket trail map is a convenient guide providing information on the location of trails, entry points, trail surfaces, and wheelchair accessibility. Pick up your copy at a Coquitlam recreation facility.

    Winter Walking in Coquitlam ParksWith an extensive network of walking paths, trails and tracks, Coquitlam parks offer a variety of ways to enjoy walking during the winter. To enjoy Coquitlams natural environments go for a morning stroll and see spawning salmon in Coquitlam River Park. Followed by an afternoon walk through the tranquil and serene trails of Mundy Parks temperate forest.

    Climb the 437 stairs to the top of Westwood Plateaus Coquitlam Crunch Trail. Youll experience an 800 foot elevation gain while enjoying the peaceful, natural setting, and views of the city on this challenging uphill climb.

    Energize yourself with an invigorating power walk at Percy Perry Stadium in the evening. The state of the art Mondo surface and the lit track provides year round walking opportunities for all ages.

    Park SparkBring Coquitlam Parks Alive!

    Park Spark is a new kind of volunteer program. Its your chance to have fun and gain meaningful experiences while participating in activities in Coquitlams parks. The Park Spark Program will connect with community members, schools, organizations and businesses looking for opportunities to enhance Coquitlams parks. The focus of the program is on participation and connection within shared public spaces. Existing park volunteer opportunities, such as the Adopt-a-Trail Program, will continue but we will be offering new opportunities and looking to the community to generate new project ideas.

    TREKKING IN NEPALThe Kingdom of Nepal boasts the biggest concentration of 8000m peaks in the world and is a Mecca for both climbers and hikers. In the slideshow we will explore some of the more popular trekking routes and show the ascent of two of Nepals Trekking Peaks (which are typically high altitude mountains requiring technical mountaineering skills).   • HIKING (12 yrs +)INTRODUCTION TO HIKING: COQUITLAM RIVER To celebrate World Rivers Day, a member of the Burke Mountain Naturalists will guide a trip along the Coquitlam River. Time will be taken to explain how nature and humans coexist in the watershed of this urban stream. Minimal elevation change. Roundtrip is 6km (3.8mi).at Coquitlam River502127 Su Feb 15 9:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. $5.00

    BELCARRAS SECRET LOOP Most visitors to Belcarra hike to Jug Island or Admiralty Point as out and backs. This hike will be different as you will be hiking a little known circular route that takes in the fantastic Woodhaven Swamp, Burns Point, Admiralty Point and the Belcarra Waterfront. This hike is approximately 12km in length with an elevation gain of 450m. Prior hiking experience recommended.at Belcarra Regional Park503513 Th Jan 15 9:00 a.m. 2:30 p.m. $5.00

    HIGH KNOLL Minnekhada Regional Park has a lot to offer and this hike will cover most of the trails. The highlight of the day will be a short but steep walk to the High Knoll where the group will be rewarded with great views. Roundtrip distance is 8km (5 mi) with an elevation gain of 185 m (600 ft). at Minnekhada Regional Park499904 Su Feb 22 9:00 a.m. 12:30 p.m. $5.00

    SASAMAT CROSSOVER Most hikers bound for this area do the loop of Buntzen. This hike is different. From the parking lot you will head up to the saddle on Buntzen Ridge before dropping down to Sasamat Lake and doing a loop of the lake. You will return via Energy Trail Look. This longer, intermediate level hike is roughly 14km with an elevation gain of 700m. Prior hiking experience recommended.at Buntzen Lake503517 Th Mar 8 9:00 a.m. 3:30 p.m. $5.00

    SNOWSHOEING: CYPRESS LAKE This hike/snowshoe is aimed for intermediate (and above) hikers and snowshoers. You will be hiking up the network of logging roads and mountain bike trails to the mid-level plateau above Westwood Plateau. Once you hit the snow you will put on your snowshoes and hike to Cypress Lake. Take in the deep snowfields and snow covered tress. Approx distance is 10km with an elevation gain of 600m. Please supply your own snowshoes. Prior hiking experience recommended.at Eagle Mountain Drive503519 Su Jan 11 9:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. $5.00

    WESTWOOD PLATEAU Hike along greenways and urban streets of Westwood Plateau to gain elevation into the forest of Ridge Park. There will be a chance for great views overlooking Coquitlam and beyond. Roundtrip distance is 12km (7.5mi) with an elevation gain of 400m (1300ft). Hike includes steep sections.     RUNNING (15 yrs +)

    INTRODUCTION TO TRAIL RUNNING This introductory session is for those who are used to road running but want to make that transition to trails. Run through the extensive trail network of Mundy Park. Participants should be comfortable running 5km continuously.     ADULT & CHILDThese programs are for kids & adults together.

    LEARN 2 FISH: LAFARGE LAKE (5 12 YRS)This hands-on program teaches children about fish identification, conservation, proper fish handling, tackle, rod rigging, practice casting, and an hour of fishing at the lake. Tackle and equipment provided. Program runs rain or shine. Donations accepted at the lake. Pre-registration required.     SPORTBALL: MULTI-SPORT JUNIOR (16 24 MOS)This 45 min program is a perfect introduction to Sportball. Children and parents will participate in our eight core sports including; hockey, soccer, tennis, baseball, basketball, volleyball, golf and football, along with creative games, songs and stories. These programs focus more on exploration and children will be introduced to a different sport each week.
