Moscow Pathways Commission: The Moscow Pathways Commission promotes and advises on the development of the path system in and around Moscow embracing three important community concerns: active transportation, recreation, and resource conservation/ enhancement. The Moscow Pathways Commission meets the second Tuesday of every month unless otherwise announced.

Moscow Tree Commission: The mission of the Moscow Tree Commission is to plan, establish and help conduct a comprehensive community forestry program for the City of Moscow. By ensuring safe, healthy trees, the community forestry program will enhance the quality of life for all who live, work, and visit the City of Moscow. The Moscow Tree Commission meets the first Tuesday of every month unless otherwise announced.

General Information: Registrations and Reservations

*We strive to provide the most accurate information possible; however, some information may change after this brochure has been published. Moscow Parks and Recreation reserves the right to cancel programs and/or change dates/times/locations as necessary. We will make every effort to notify participants of any changes.*

All presentations of Moscow Parks and Recreation are open to the public, limited by the class guidelines. Participants agree to abide by the fair use provision that any photograph taken by staff during the activity may be used for the promotion of similar activities by the aforementioned agency.

You can register for activities by coming to the Hamilton Indoor Recreation Center (HIRC) during our open hours, or by visiting the City of Moscow’s website http://www.ci.moscow.id.us and clicking on the “Register for Recreation” icon at the bottom of the page. From there you will be directed to our online registration site. Park picnic shelters may also be reserved online. For information on facility reservations, please contact Moscow Parks and Recreation weekdays between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

HIRC Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday 8:00am- 10:00pm, Saturdays 9:00am – 6:00pm, Sundays 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm.

Eggan Youth Center Hours of Operation: Monday-Thursday 3:00pm- 6:00pm, Friday’s 2:15pm- 6:00pm. The After School Program follows the Moscow School District calendar and is open on all days that classes are in session.

Refund Policy: All refunds are subject to a $6.00 administration fee with the exception of cancelled activities or classes.

Participation Agreement: I waive and release any and all rights and claims for damages I may have against the City of Moscow, its representatives or assignees for any and all injuries suffered by me/my child while participating in any Parks and Recreation activities. I also give my consent for any emergency medical treatment from medical personnel as approved by a member of the Parks & Recreation staff, in case of me/my child’s injury or illness while participating in Parks and Recreation program. I understand that if possible, I will be immediately notified of any emergency, but this consent is to prevent undue delay and assure prompt attention. I agree to accept responsibility for any medical expenses resulting from such emergency. I agree that pictures taken during program hours may be used for future promotional purposes. T-Ball/Coach Pitch - The Great American Pastime of baseball has kept kids active, healthy, and having fun for generations – continue the tradition with Moscow Parks and Rec’s Youth Baseball! In our program, kids not only learn the fundamentals of baseball – such as throwing, hitting, and catching – but also the importance of good sportsmanship and team spirit, all while having a great time playing the exciting game of baseball! Youth T-Ball / Baseball is for boys and girls ages 6-11. Children must be 6 years of age before September 1, 2016. Price includes a team hat; mandatory reversible Parks and Recreation shirts may be purchased at the Hamilton Indoor Recreation Center ($17.00 + tax).

Junior/Senior Fast Pitch League: Girls’ Junior (3rd - 5th grades) and Senior (6th – 8th grades) Fast Pitch Softball provides girls with an opportunity to learn skills such as throwing, hitting, running, and catching that will help them enjoy this healthy, active, fun sport for a lifetime. Teams from Moscow, Pullman, Kendrick/Julietta, Genesee, Troy and surrounding communities will host games in their respective cities; transportation to and from games is the responsibility of the player. Teams will play 10-12 games and will participate in a tournament at the end of the season. Registration fee includes a team shirt and visor. FLAG FOOTBALL FUELED BY USA FOOTBALL CAMP: Skyhawks Flag Football Fueled by USA Football is an exciting introduction to America’s favorite game! Using skills and drills from the Football Development Model, developed by the experts at the sport’s national governing body – USA Football – coaches will teach the key concepts of passing, receiving, running, kicking, punting and flag pulling, all presented in a positive environment with a focus on critical life lessons such as teamwork and sportsmanship. It’s been a year of crazy changes and we are embracing them! Summer Break Kids Kamp is an active, fun and exciting way for your kids to spend their school break. Every day will be filled with fun and exciting ways to keep them active inside and outside! Along with arts & crafts, cooking, quiet reading and STEM activities, we will be adventuring around the community. Kampers need to bring the following every day: reading activity, lunch, snack, reusable water bottle, weather appropriate clothing, walking shoes, backpack. Activities and adventures subject to change based on COVID requirements. Each day is from 7:30 AM- 5:30 PM (No late pickups please)

OUTDOOR WOODWORKING FOR KIDS In this workshop with real tools, kids will actively learn how to safely use a hammer, drill, and saw while building their choice of a variety of wooden wonders such as their own toolbox, a birdhouse, or a box for their treasures! The class will wrap up with a final painting day for their completed project with a variety of colors to choose from. Kids will be able to take home an awesome project made with their own hands and as well as woodworking skills they can use for a lifetime. Carolyn Berman is a certified elementary and industrial arts instructor who has built her own house with her own hands and has taught woodworking to people of all ages.

PHILLIPS FARM NATURE CAMP Are your kids looking for an outdoor adventure this summer? Campers will gain an appreciation for nature and the outdoor world through hiking wild trails, exploring pond critters, and participating in fun, interactive learning. Songs, games, and adventures in the great outdoors will make this camp a true highlight of summer. Campers can sign up for one, two, or all three weeks. Campers need to bring the following: lunch, water bottle, and sunscreen. Campers should dress in layers for the weather and wear closed-toed shoes (Additional requirements may include masks, depending on city orders). Please no early drop-offs or late pick-ups. Join us at Raven Hammer Studio for a fun week exploring and expressing your creative side! Using a variety of materials and techniques, campers will spend each day drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpting, ultimately creating unique works of art. With indoor and outdoor activities and all materials and supplies are provided, your young artist is sure to learn! Campers need a sack lunch each day (snacks will be provided). Please, no early drop off or late pick up. Instructor Rachael Eastman received her Master’s degree in Fine Art in 2010 and is currently the art teacher at Sacajawea Junior High in Lewiston.

Dog Obedience Classes

Register: Through May 4th Ages: 16+ Date: Tuesdays, May 18- June 22 Location: Eggan Youth Center, 1515 East D Street

Kinderpuppy is a class designed to help puppies learn basic socialization skills, as well as, train the owners how to work with their dogs. We will work on developing appropriate behavior, shaping the temperament and personality of your puppy, puppy socialization, and basic puppy care. They say that owning a pet is one of the most rewarding experiences people will have. To make sure you will be around for many years, your dog will get you out for walks and require you to live a healthy active lifestyle while bonding with them. Not only does your dog get to learn during this process, but you get to exercise and be active with your dog while training. It is a win/win proposition you cannot pass up. We will teach basic command including Come, Sit, Down, and Stay. During class we will also discuss typical puppy problems including barking, digging, jumping, and dominance issues. This is for dogs under six months of age. TIME: 7:15 pm- 8:00pm

Beginning Dog class is designed for dogs of all ages that are just starting to work on obedience. We will work on developing appropriate behavior for your dog, so it can be a good companion both in your home and in the community. They say that owning a pet is one of the most rewarding experiences people will have. To make sure you will be around for many years, your dog will get you out for walks and require you to live a healthy active lifestyle while bonding with them. Not only does your dog get to learn during this process, but you get to exercise and be active with your dog while training. It is a win/win proposition you cannot pass up. This class focuses on training dogs and handlers for basic companion dog commands. You will learn how to train your dog to walk on a leash, sit, lie down, stay, and come when called by using positive reinforcement. This class is an excellent opportunity to work your dog in a controlled situation around many dogs. Dogs must be over six months of age. TIME: 8:15 pm-9pm

Rally Obedience is for dogs that have completed the Advanced Obedience class or have special permission from the instructor. In this course, dogs will learn more than thirty Rally exercises including inside about turns, front, finish right, moving down, side step, speed changes and weaving through cones. Once mastered, dogs will proceed through mock courses with 10- 20 stations (depending on the level). Dogs do not need to be registered in the American Kennel Club to enroll in this class; however, to compete in Rally at AKC events they must be registered with the AKC. For the purpose of this class, all Rally exercises are done on leash. TIME: 6:15 pm-7 pm

Did you know that socially involved people are 2 - 5 times less likely to suffer heart disease? Join instructor Cherle Poulson and a fun and friendly group of guys and gals in our morning Tone and Stretch class! Tone and Stretch is designed to target your core muscles, with elements of yoga and Pilates included to increase flexibility and strength. Use of weights for upper body strengthening is optional. Tone and Stretch supplements your daily routine with stretching and flexibility, and will get your heart rate going for a healthier you. This class will make sure to keep you interested and continuing to live a healthy, active lifestyle - and will make a difference in the physical and mental you!

Horseshoe Pitching Singles League: Playing horseshoes is a fun and social way to add some activity to your summer! Our Singles League will last 10 weeks, concluding with a round-robin tournament. While this is a singles league, play may also include other match-ups including cutthroat and walking doubles. All levels of play, from beginners to advanced, are welcome to participate. Horseshoe Pitching Doubles League: Join us for Moscow Parks and Rec’s 15th Annual Summer Horseshoe Doubles League. Horseshoes is an active, social lifetime sport that promotes physical fitness, coordination, body movement, and walking – and is a lot of fun! The league runs for 12 weeks, with 10 weeks of head-to-head league play followed by 2 weeks of a seeded double-elimination tournament (seeding based on the win/loss record from the first 10 weeks). The final night of the tournament also features a potluck picnic for all participants. All levels of play are welcome; singles will be paired up to form doubles teams. If you do not have a doubles partner, sign up and we will pair up those who need a partner. 7th Annual Mayor’s Golf Tournament: Come join Moscow Mayor Bill Lambert for the 7th Annual Mayor’s Golf Tournament at the University of Idaho Golf course. During the event participants have chances to win prizes, and all proceeds go to a local charity cause of Mayor Lambert’s choice. The tournament begins with a shotgun start at 8:00am on Friday, August 13th. The format is 4-person scramble. Entry fees include a tee goody bag and a BBQ/Awards Ceremony immediately following the tournament. There are prizes for Low Team Score, Longest Drive – Women and Men, Longest Putt – Men and Women, Closest to-the-Pin, and two Hole-In-One competitions where participants could win a new car or a travel voucher.

Registration: Through August 6th Registrations after August 7 does not guarantee a tee goody bag on the day of the tournament.

Do your kids want to be better swimmers, more comfortable in the water and learn a skill that can keep them healthy and active for a lifetime? We have the answer for you - Swim Lessons at the HLAC. The HLAC will offer four swim lesson sessions for the 2021 season. All sessions are Monday through Friday for two weeks. * Please note: the instructors reserve the right to relocate students from their current class to a level they believe will better fit the individual's age and skill level.*

Parent-Child Aquatics Parent-Child Aquatics familiarizes young children (6 months to 3 years) to the water and prepares them for future swim lessons. It is not designed to teach children to become good swimmers or to survive in the water on their own. This class gives parents safety information and teaches techniques to help orient their children to the water. Parents must be in the water with their child.

Pre-Tadpoles This class promotes developmentally appropriate water safety and aquatic skills for young children about 3 to 5 years of age. Skills taught are water entry and exit, breath control and getting water on the face, buoyancy, changing direction and position. Parents cannot be in the water with their child and his class takes place in the activity pool near the tumble buckets.

Tadpole - Water Adjustment This class is designed for children 5 years old and older who have little to no water experience. Skills taught are water entry and exit, breath control and getting water on the face, buoyancy, changing direction and position. Parents cannot be in the water with their child and his class takes place in the activity pool near the play structure.

Turtle - Fundamental Aquatic Skills To register for this level your child must be able to do the following: go under water willingly with no hesitation; float assisted on front and back; follow directions; jump in, go underwater, and be caught; demonstrate comfort in the entire pool environment. Participants will become independent in water. Float/glide without assistance; swim using front call, jump into pool, surface and back float/return to wall. This class takes place in the activity pool at the bottom of the green and blue slides.

Frog - Stroke Development To register for this level your child must be able to do the following: glide unassisted on their front and back; travel 15 feet using beginning paddling; demonstrated streamline kick on their front and back; float unassisted on their front and back for 10 seconds. Students will begin working on strokes, including front crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke and rhythmic breathing. This class takes place in the activity pool at a depth of 4 feet.

Gator - Stroke Improvement To register for this level your child must be able to do the following: float unassisted on their front and back for 15 seconds; swim ½ the length of the pool (using a paddle stroke, streamline kick and rhythmic breathing), roll over unassisted and swim the remaining length of pool on back (streamline kick with sculling arms). Students will improve front crawl, elementary backstroke and breaststroke. This class takes place in the lap pool.

Trout - Stroke Refinement To register for this level your child must be able to do the following: swim 25 yards using front crawl with complete coordination and using rotary breathing and over-arm recovery every time; swim 25 yards of back crawl including coordination and over-arm recovery every time. Students will continue to refine stroke development, begin endurance training and be introduced to dolphin kick. This class takes place in the lap pool.

Salmon-Skill Proficiency and Fitness Swimming To register for this level your child must be able to do the following: swim 50 yards using back crawl; swim 50 yards using front crawl; swim 25 yards using elementary backstroke; swim 25 yards using breast stroke; tread water for 2 minutes. This class takes place in the lap pool.

AHA Heartsaver CPR and First Aid: In this class you will learn to recognize and provide help during a life- threatening emergency. Participants will receive instruction in CPR, and Basic First Aid for adults, children, and infants. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive an American Heart Association (AHA) CPR & First Aid Certification card.

Mark Heinlein will guide program participants through the process of selecting plants, composting, weeding, watering, and harvesting; as part of the program, participants will ‘adopt’ a section of one of the Hamilton Community Garden plots where they will get to put their new skills into practice! Individuals and groups are welcome to participate; all participants are encouraged to provide their own tools and supplies; limited items will be available to share. Celebrate year-round by visiting one of Moscow’s many beautiful parks, including three of our newest - each with a different playground for the kids: Itani Park, Morgan’s Orchard Park and Lola Clyde Park! Whether you are looking for a place to romp with the kids, shoot some hoops, enjoy a picnic or take a leisurely stroll, the City of Moscow has a park for you! Each one is a unique, beautiful space with different features to discover.

Almon Asbury Lieuallen Park (500 Residence Street - 1.57 Acres): Almon Asbury Lieuallen Park is a small and peaceful park with one of the best views of Moscow Mountain. To get there, turn north on Cherry Street (off of A St.), drive up to the top of the hill and turn right onto Residence Street; the park will be on your left.

Alturas Technology Park (1241 Alturas Drive - 0.9 Acre): A quiet sanctuary perfect for the business person to take a quiet break, this park is found at the entrance of the Alturas Technology Park. The presence of the slow streaming water fountain adds an element of peace and tranquility here at Alturas Park.

Anderson/Frontier Park (890 West Palouse River Drive - 7.99 Acres): Located within one block of the University of Idaho Arboretum and featuring a covered picnic area and playground, this beautiful park is a great place for families or groups to go outside and play a game of Frisbee or basketball, or take a leisurely walk around the pond and surrounding area.

Berman Creekside Park (382 Styner Avenue - 4.17 Acres): Looking for a quiet spot to picnic, take a walk along Paradise Creek or enjoy some beautiful botanicals? This small park has a lot to offer in every season, including a number of sculptures and four themed gardens.

Dog Park (2019 White Avenue - 1 Acre): This fenced, off -leash dog park is located next to the Humane Society of the Palouse on White Avenue. Originally a “landfill” area, the City decided to clean out the site and develop it into a great place to bring your dog for some off -leash fun!

East City Park (900 East 3rd Street - 7.04 Acres): Relax in the shade of the beautiful trees, or enjoy the many activities available in the park including volleyball, basketball, horseshoes, and playing with the kids in the playground area.

8th Street Reservoir Park (South of East 8th Street past Lynn Street - 0.75 Acre): Reservoir Park can be accessed from 8th Street just east of Lynn Street. The pathway and grassy areas around the reservoir provide a wonderful location to relax and enjoy a peaceful day.

Friendship Square (4th and Main Streets - 0.4 Acre): While shopping in the downtown area, take a break and rest in this quaint little town square. Toss a coin in the fountain and make a wish, or let the children join their friends in the play area. Every Saturday morning during the summer months Friendship Square hosts the annual Moscow Farmers Market, which features local vendors and live entertainment.

Ghormley Park (504 Home Street - 10.54 Acres): This is one of our most active parks with activities for all ages including a playground, softball fields, picnic area, horseshoes pits and more.

Heron’s Hideout (1124 South Mt. View Road- 2.79 Acres): This park is located on the east side of Mountain View Road across from the Fire Station. Relax on the observation platform and view the beautiful birds and other animals that hang out by Paradise Creek.

Indian Hills Park (Corner of South Blaine St. and Indian Hills Drive -1.2 Acres): Featuring two play structures as well as swings, grassy areas to relax in, and a bench where you can sit and enjoy the view.

Itani Park (2006 Itani Drive - .84 Acres): One of Moscow’s newest parks, Itani Park features an accessible path leading to a play structure for kids 2-12 years with both adaptive and standard swings as well as safety surfacing.

Jim Lyle Rotary Park (1100 East F Street - 2.14 Acres): Surrounded by trees, this park provides a large open space for play as well as a playground and picnic area. This brand-new playground is designed for children of all ages-come and play!

Kiwanis Park/Hordemann Pond (2027 East E Street - 2.7 Acres): This park features a small pond encircled by a trail, enabling visitors to view the fish, turtles, and other wildlife that make their home here. To access this park, take D Street east to Harding Street, turn left onto Harding Street and then right onto East E Street. The park is located at the end of E Street.

Lena Whitmore Park (125 South Cleveland Street - 3 Acres): Just behind Lena Whitmore Elementary School is Lena Whitmore Park. There is a nice, grassy area that is perfect for playing, picnicking, or just lying out in the sun on a nice day. This park is used by the school during school hours and is open to the public after school, on weekends and all day during the summer months.

Lola Clyde Park (intersection of North Polk Street and Rodeo Drive - 5.1 Acres): Named for Lola Gamble Clyde, this park has an accessible playground for 2-12 year old’s that features ramps, swings, slides, and a spinner, along with an accessible pathway and safety surfacing.

Lillian Woodworth Otness Park (North Asbury and West A Streets): One of Moscow’s newest parks, located in one of Moscow’s oldest neighborhoods, Lillian Woodworth Otness Park features a playground for children ages 2-5 as well as benches and a pathway that runs alongside Hogg Creek.

Morgan’s Orchard Park (1501 Lanny Lane): This new pocket park is located in the northeast corner of Moscow and features a brand-new playground with safety-tile surfacing. To find it, turn north off of North Mt. View Road onto Slonaker Drive, then west onto Lanny Lane...come check it out!

Mt. View Park (1450 North Mountain View Road - 16 Acres): Located about 1 mile north of Moscow Middle School on North Mt. View Road, this park features playgrounds and picnic tables as well as a shaded group picnic area, all looking out towards the beautiful Moscow Mountain scenery. Paradise Creek and Paradise Path run through this park, which includes large, open, grassy fields for games as well as ball fields for sports.

Skate Park (1515 East D Street - 7000 sf): The Moscow Skate Park sits on the east side of the Eggan Youth Center. The park is made of concrete with several ramps and steel rails and provides challenges for bicyclers, skaters, bladers, and skateboarders.

Triangle Park (1200 Kamiaken Street - 1.75 Acres): If you are looking for a place to bring the family, play Frisbee, or just relax in the sun, this bright triangle of green grass featuring a small playground area is the place for you.

Virgil Phillips Farm Park (5 miles north of Moscow on Hwy 95 - 160 acres): With hiking paths, ponds and wetlands, open fields and forests, this park is home to many native Palouse species such as moose, elk, deer, black bear, and many birds and amphibians.

Vista Park and Reservoir (End of Hathaway Street - 4.56 Acres): With a great view of Moscow and enough green space to play a small soccer game or throw a Frisbee, this little park is nestled in a small housing development just off of Joseph Street. The open space is located at the corner of Kathy and Vista Roads.

Wren Welcome Garden (Intersection of South Jackson Street/Highway 8 and Washington Street - 0.2 Acre): The Wren property is maintained as a green space where its beauty serves as a warm welcome to travelers coming into Moscow.
