Computer Name: MDT

Full Computer Name: MDT.Arabitpro.local

OS: Windows 2012 Datacenter Edition RTM

Roles: Domain Member

Windows Deployment Services

Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) 2012 Update 1

IP: 10.10.10.2/8

DNS: 10.10.10.1


Windows Deployment Services Installation:

Click - Server manager

Server manager dash board Click - Add roles and features -


Before you begin dialog box Click - Next -

Select installation type dialog box appears


Installation type - select Role based or feature-based installation click - Next

Select destination server dialog box appears – server selection - select MDT server –click Next


Server role dialog box appears – server roles select Windows deployment services – select the check box -

Add Roles and Features Wizard dialog box appear – select Add Features – check box Include management tools (if applicable)


Next -

Select features dialog box appears click Next


WDS dialog box appears click Next

Select role services dialog box appears check box Deployment Server, Transport server click Next


Confirm installation selection dialog box appears - Select the check box “restart the destination server automatically if required -

Add Roles and Features Wizard dialog box appears - click Yes


Click Install – Close.

Installation of Windows and Deployment Kit

Log On to MDT server - server manager

Install Assesment and Deployment Kit(ADK):

Requires the MDT 2012 source files and the Windows ADK. First install the ADK (Assessment and deployment kit dialog box appears:


Select the installation path – to the default – Next

CEIP (optional) Select your option - select Next


License Agreement – Accept -

Select the Features you want to install

Here we are selecting 1) Deployment tools 2) Windows Preinstallation Environment PE

2) User State Migration Tool USMT - Click Install


As the installation needs internet connection to download it’s a large size file be patience till it downloads.

The progress bar displays the status…


After some time Welcome to the Assessment and Deployment Kit window appears

Click – Close

Now we will start Installation of MDT 2012 Update 1 on MDT server

Click Microsoft DeploymentToolkit2012_x64.msi. The install dialog box appears.


Click Next -

Check the I Accept the terms in the license Agreement – click Next


Custom Setup dialog box appears – you can click browse … to setting the install location, and click Next

Customer Experience Improvement Program select the option – click Next


Ready to Install dialog box appears – click install

The installation progress


After complete the installation – click - Finish

Configure Windows Deployment Services (WDS)


Go to server manager -

Select the WDS -


Select the server – right click- select Windows Deployment services Management Console -

Window Deployment Services Dialog box appears – windows deployment services – Servers- Select the MDT server


Select MDT server MDT.Arabitpro.com – Right Click – Configure Server

Before You Begin dialog box appears – click NEXT


Make sure select Integrated With Active Directory click NEXT


Remote Installation folder dialog box Appears – browse to choose the remote installation folder – click NEXT

If the installation path is the system volume of same server partition – the error will appears with message..

Select – YES to continue -


PXE Server Initial Settings – select Respond to all client computers (known and unknown) – click NEXT

Task Progress Dialog appears – wait some seconds, the Operation Complete dialog box appears:


The Operation Complete dialog box appears

Uncheck add image to the server now click - FINISH

The DS server Configuration finished

Further Configuration


Go to server manager -

Select the WDS -


Select the server – right click- select Windows Deployment services Management Console -

Right click MDT server – click -Properties


MDT properties dialog box appears – click – MULTICAST

Under multicast IP Address select obtain IP address form DHCP

Select advanced tab – under the DHCP Authorization select Authorize this Windows Deployment server in DHCP


Click Apply – OK

Log On to the Domain Controller

Under Server Options – add 066 and 067 options

Configuring a Deployment Share:

Log on to MDT server press Windows button on key board – on start screen – click Deployment Workbench


Right –click Deployment Shares – New Deployment Share:


Under deployment path, click Browse… select the path and click Next


The Share dialog box appears - click Next accept the default share name.


Descriptive Name dialog box appears click - Next

Options Dialog box appears – uncheck all options - Next


Summery Dialog box appears – click Next


Progress Dialog Box appears – wait some minutes.


The Confirmation Dialog box appears – Finish the deployment share configuration finished.

That the Deployment Workbench created in the deployment share. These folders map to folders you see in the Deployment Workbench:

Deployment Workbench O/S Import

From start menu select Deployment workbench


Select Deployment workbench – Deployment Share (C:\DepShare) – Select Operating System

Select OS Type “ Full set of source files” –click Next


Source Dialog box appears – Browse cd/dvd rom for OS image file click Next


The Destination Dialog box appears click Next

The Summery dialog box Appears – click Next


Progress Dialog box displays The importing operating system wizard copies the OS source files to Deployment Share:


The Confirmation Dialog box show the process status and imported OS – click Finish

:: The above operation installed windows 2012 OS

As well we can install Additional operating systems following the same procedure..

Select Deployment workbench – Deployment Share (C:\DepShare) – Select Operating System

Select OS Type “ Full set of source files” –click Next


Source Dialog box appears – Browse cd/dvd rom for OS image file click Next

The Destination Dialog box appears click Next

Now you can see the imported Operating Systems. In Deployment Workbench – MDT server – Operating system

Configuring Task Sequence:

open MDT server Deployment Workbench


Select task sequence – Right-click

Select New Task Sequence



Enter all information (here we are creating task sequence for (Windows 8)

Select Template Dialog box appears – Select Standard Client Task Sequence – click Next


Select Dialog box appears – select the OS (we select Windows8) – click Next


proceed with Do not specify product key at this time – click Next

OS Settings Dialog box enter all the information- click Next


Enter the Administrator Password – click Next


Summery dialog box shows the summery – click Next - the progress dialog -


Confirmation dialog box displays the confirmation – click Finish

Now we can see the just created task sequence for windows 8 OS

Rolling out the Deployment Share


Click on the MDT Deployment Share – click – Properties

Click Rules tab


Adding or setting rules to the default one Add the following rules: SkipApplications=YES SkipAppsOnUpgrade=YES SkipBDDWelcome=YES SkipComputerName=NO SkipDeploymentType=YES SkipDomainMembership=YES SkipFinalSummery=YES SkipLocaleSelection=YES SkipPackageDisplay=YES SkipSummery=YES SkipTaskSequence=NO SkipTimeZone=YES SkipUserData=YES JoinDomain=Arabitpro DomainAdmin=Administrator DomainAdminDomain=Arabitpro DomainAdminPassword=tHC2006 UILanguage=en-US UserLocale=en-US KeyboardLocale=0409-00000409 TimeZoneName=UTC+3:00


Select Monitoring Tab “check enable monitoring for this deployment share” click – Apply – ok

Click Update the deployment share


Options Dialog box appears – click Next


Summery Dialog box appears – select Next

Progress Dialog box


Then confirmation -click Finish


Start menu - click - Open Windows Deployment Services

Select Mdt server – Boot image – Right-click properties


Image file Dialog box appears – Browse to locate the boot image file – click Next


Click-Next


Summery Dialog box – click Next


Task Progress dialog box – click Finish

Starting Bare metal Deployment :

1) Boot the bare metal computer, it will order IP address from DHCP server


2) After boot Press F12 will start download boot image from Windows DS server:

Dowload boot image finished, will into WinPE phase


The Microsoft Deployment Toolkit dialog box appears – Click Run the Deployment Wizard to install a new Operating System

User Credentials dialog box appears:


Enter Username Password and Domain

Task Sequence Dialog box appears Select the OS click Next


Computer Details Dialog box Appears : type the Computer name click Next

The lite touch installation has started


Installation in progress it’ll take about 10 minutes.
