Term 4 continues to fly by with our students
finishing their second week of Swim School
this week. This is a lifesaving skill that I
cannot promote strongly enough with our
community. As a trained swimming
instructor myself, I have seen firsthand the
great pleasure that children can gain from
becoming confident in the water,
particularly living in such a beautiful area as
we do in Lake Macquarie. I encourage our
students to continue to make the time
whenever possible to practise the skills they
have learnt after this
program finishes on
Friday.
Last Friday was World
Teachers’ Day in
Australia. It is
celebrated on the last
day of October each
year. I can say without
hesitation that the
teachers that we have
here at Windale PS are some of the most
talented, dedicated and caring staff that I
have ever had the pleasure of working with.
The time and effort that they each put into
making the best possible learning
experiences for our students, be they in
school time or outside experiences such as
Starstruck, school excursions and discos, is
second to none. Please take the time this
week to show your child’s teacher that you
appreciate their efforts in helping your child
achieve their personal best. Together we
can ensure that when our children leave
Windale PS that they will believe that they
can do and be anything that they want to
be. The sky’s the limit!
As I mentioned briefly in our last newsletter,
we have lots of exciting new developments
happening at the school between now and
the end of the year. This includes the
purchase of brand
new furniture for
some of our
classrooms where
students will be given
the opportunity to
learn in the latest and
greatest 21st Century
learning environments
with the use of hands
on technology on a
daily basis. Learning as
we know it is changing at Windale PS. We
cannot train the leaders of tomorrow with
yesterday’s thinking.
Looking forward to sharing more exciting
news with you over the coming weeks. Have
a fantastic week of learning everyone!

GRANDPARENTS’ DAY
We had a great turnout for the Grandparents’ Day Morning Tea
last Thursday. Grandparents and friends were entertained by
our Kinder students who shared their favourite books. Year One
students also shared their writing with our visitors and read to
them and classes from across the school produced some
wonderful artwork which was displayed in the hall. Our
Grandparents were able to choose a piece of artwork to take
home with them as a memento at the end of the morning tea.
Our very capable Year 6 students made tea and coffee for our
guests and were excellent hosts with a number of the boys
really showing off their hospitality skills. Many of our
Grandparents enjoyed their time here so much that they stayed
in the school and kicked on to Milabah for some more chatting
and story sharing.
We would like to thank Sue
McQuillan for her organisation
of this event and also

Day cake he kindly donated.

Swim School Begins
We have had a great start to swim school this year with over 60 of our
students attending Charlestown pool for a two week intensive learn
to swim program. We have been lucky with the weather so far and
the children are really enjoying the opportunity to learn new skills
and refine their style. We have had some great achievements already
with some of our non-swimmers getting much more confident and
getting into the water unassisted. We have a number of our teachers
and support teachers attending and reports from both swim school
staff and teachers is that students are behaving well and making great
progress. Hopefully we will continue to have good weather and
students will benefit greatly from this excellent opportunity.

Pelicans Week 3 Assembly Item
The Pelican’s recently read the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff and loved it so
much that they wanted to perform their version of the story at our whole school
assembly. The performance starred Aleyah H, and Nadia B as the Three Billy
Goats Gruff and Keely G as The evil troll. Sharna W-W, Kiana M, Levi M, Mathew
L, Izack H-K and Ben S played the hungry goats waiting to cross the bridge and
Owen N, Hayley J, Guy H, Taylor A and Tyrell N were the full and happy goats that
had made it across the bridge to greener pastures. It was a very entertaining
performance and the students loved performing in front of the school.
As an education community we want to protect our most valuable assets, our students and their families, and to do this Transport for NSW have provided the Department of Education with a range of resources to promote bus-related safety.
Be Bus Aware has a suite of animations highlighting tips for safe boarding, travel and disembarkation from buses. It also has a bus safety education video for students in years 5 and 6. Both sections of this site could be useful in developing learning experiences to meet the road safety needs of students.
Please join with the Department of Education community in promoting this road safety campaign, because we all want our students to be safe and well now and into the future.

The Fearsome, Frightening, Ferocious Box by Frances Watts
Emu have been reading the exciting
story of the Fearsome Frightening,
Ferocious Box and then creating
stories about their own mystery
box. They used some excellent
adjectives to describe what the box
looked like, sounded like and felt
like. They also used alliteration to
make their writing more
entertaining. We hope you enjoy
these samples of our work and what
mysteries lie within our boxes.
