XVI.-FURTHER ACCOUNT OF ST. PETEBSBURG.

It has been my purpose to gi •e such an account of ST. PETERSBURG that those who read these letters will have as good a knowledge of the city as cin be obtained without vi"iting it, so as to place Sr. PETEB&DURG, with the great cities of central EUJ:OPE,

before the mind as a <listinctly discerned object, and not as a vague and unsatisfactory conception. With this end in view I have described the situation of the city and its geoernl itppearancc, and also conducted the reader through many of it;; most iruposing buildings, But the grandest of them all, and one of the most magnificent in Ee ROPE, I have reserved

"I have followed with deep interest the work of the General Confcrrnc·e and believe that the collective leadership of l\lethodism '''US never more responsh·e to th<· \\'ill of God than it is today, and the arlaptabilily of our economy to existing conditions \\•as never more clearly illustrated."
