The True Meaning of Xmas

Several teachers across the school have asked their class whether they would prefer their teacher to support an animal charity for their class in place of giving 30 individual gifts to their pupils.

In all the classes asked, they chose to support an animal charity. 5W, 6S and 4W offered to adopt an endangered animal while Year 3 have chosen to support the RSPCA.

The children were very keen to support the imaginative idea and were tasked with jointly deciding which animal they thought should be adopted.

After much research of their own and debate across the class, the children chose to adopt Amur Leopards (5W, 6S) because they

are so endangered (only 90 left in the wild) and a Rhino (4W).

Mr Smith is just a bit worried about the space they are going to take up in school !! We might need to build an enclosure in our wild life area near the pond !!

Albert (a.k.a. Elf-bert) says he hopes you have some good books to read over the holidays and he is

looking forward to seeing all his friends back at school in the new year!

AMUR LEOPARD:

PROBABLY THE

WORLD’S RAREST

CAT?

School Produced Videos

School shows are now recorded and shared with you via an online link.

With new recording equipment and high quality encoding to cloud based storage, the quality of the recordings is a vast improvement over the previous DVDs that we used to issue.

Our videos are saved to the Vimeo video sharing platform. We have bought enough cloud based storage to store all our videos going forward. So, you can either download the videos to your own devices (about 10GB for a 1 hour show) or simply watch them online, safe in the knowledge that they will be there whenever you want to watch them.

Having bought the cloud space, the videos can be watched without any adverts.

If you like our videos, please click the ‘like’ button next to it!

You can watch the videos at any time by following the link we send out to the relevant year group. Alternatively, you can simply go to the Vimeo website and search for ‘WCLPS’. All our videos will be titled with ‘WCLPS’ at the start of their name, so they should all appear in your search.

With new Smart TVs, you can load the Vimeo App straight onto our TV and then stream directly to your TV!

Very Good Food Hygiene Rating

We are delighted to announce that following a recent food hygiene inspection of our kitchen by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, we have been awarded another rating of 5 to demonstrate our compliance with food hygiene regulations. Well done to our Cook, Lisa and her team for working so hard to maintain this rating.

The Chairman of Willerby Parish Council, Pete Laws, presented one of our pupils with the

“Parish Council award for an outstanding contribution to the community”.

In attendance, to support the presentation, were the Vice Chair of the Parish Council, Tracey

Williams, and the Clerk to the Parish Council, Caroline Handforth.

It is the first time that this highly prestigious award has been given. It will, in future, feature as

one of our annual, highly esteemed, end of year awards in our trophy assembly.

Our amazing pupil, was recognised for growing and then donating her hair to the Little

Princess Trust. Indeed, it is the second time that she has done this and she is only in Year 5!

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs free of charge to children and young people

up to the age of 24 that have sadly lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other

illnesses.

Willerby Parish Council award for “an outstanding

contribution to the community.”

trips, music tuition, clubs,

milk, etc. can already be

paid online providing

payment records and

financial control for parents

and avoiding potential

issues with cash not arriving

at the office.

However, going cashless

will also substantially reduce

administration costs and

improve security for staff.

If you have not yet

registered to use SIMS Pay,

please contact the office

staff for further details on

how to do this.

If you need support with

accessing SIMS Pay, whether

it is with the process of

registering or need access to

a computer, again, please

contact the office, we will be

very pleased to help.

Autumn 2018 – Sports roundup

It has been a very busy and successful term of sport at Willerby Carr Lane.

Football

We have played many games of football across the year groups, with a great deal of success from the boys and the girls.

Our Year 4/5 squad have been involved in a new league this year. We are currently sitting on the top of our league, having won games against

Anlaby Primary and All Saints, Hessle. We have more games scheduled next year, but this has been an excellent start.

In our annual Wolfreton cluster tournament, we entered three teams. Our top two finishers played in the 3rd place play off, finishing in respectable 3rd and 4th positions.

In the Humberside Cup, we easily won our first round match against Healing Primary, 11 – 0. However, we unfortunately didn’t progress any further, losing 5-2 against Kirkella in our second round match. Our Year 6s fared better in the EFL cup at Hull University in November. Winning all but one of our games, we topped our league and have progressed to the finals in January.

Finally, our Year 5/6 girls’ squad have been in action. They are an awesome group, who have been playing together now since Year 3. Most of them play outside school for local teams too. They won the Wolfreton cluster competition against our local schools, winning a place at the East Riding Final. They came 3rd at this event, only losing the semi-final on sudden death penalties,

but thankfully the top 4 teams progressed to the Humberside Championships.

At the Humberside competition, again at South Hunsley, they won every game, scoring numerous goals and ultimately won the final on penalties, our own goalie being the one to score the winner. It was a brilliant display of football and thoroughly well-deserved. We are now through to the East Midlands Final to be held at Nottingham University in March. Good luck girls.

Cross country

In early October, we hosted our Wolfreton cluster competition for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Our young runners were again very successful. Our teams won the Year 3/4 girls’ race, the Year 3/4 boys’ race and the Year 5/6 girls’ race. Callum won the Year 5/6 boys’ race too. All of these teams and individuals therefore went through to the final at

Cottingham High later in October. Coming up against tougher opposition, they found this next race much harder, but the Year 5/6 girls came second overall and Callum was again crowned East Riding Champion. Well done to all runners.

Rugby

On the 6th November, our Year

3/4 squad took part in a festival at Hullensians. They enjoyed some fun skills sessions and competitive games, most of them playing rugby competitively for the first time. We will hopefully be arranging some more games in the new year, and have just received some funding to buy a smaller kit!

Dodgeball

At the end of November, we took a group of 16 Year 3s and 4s across to Wolfreton to play in a dodgeball tournament against our local cluster schools. They are a competitive lot and I was pleased it wasn’t me on the court having balls thrown at

me! Every single one of them threw their heart and soul into each game. After an excellent win in the semi-finals, we lost a closely fought game against Kirkella in the final, but the team will go through to the next round early next year.
