Dear Members,
Wow! May is already here. Snowbirds are migrating north.
Other members are planning their summer trip(s). Betsy
has speakers lined up through November, workshops are
being set up, and plans are being made for the 2020 Quilt
show. Your Guild is going to keep you busy!
What a successful Yard Sale!! Thanks to the members who
brought in items to sell as well as to each of you who found
those treasures you couldn’t live without.
So what’s happening this month? Our own Dot Price will be the presenter at our
May 16th meeting. Her lecture is on collage making. She is also willing to teach a
collage making class for anyone who is interested. See Betsy Turner if you are
interested in signing up. Have you seen someone who you enjoyed and would like
them to come to our Guild and present, let Betsy know. She’s always look for fresh
new ideas!
Pick up tickets for the 2020 Opportunity Quilt “Longitude 82 W.” If you are available
to sell tickets at different events, see Judy Klingensmith. She has a list of when and
where the opportunity quilt will be displayed. Any ideas for a name for the 2022 Quilt
Show? Contact Pam King.
Keep the soda can tabs, Box Tops for Education, and small samples bottles coming
in for the Food Bank. There is also a new request for pillowcases for kids staying at
the domestic abuse shelter. Donna Herrick will be collecting them at the May
meeting, then again in September.
September is still open for our monthly Gift Baskets. Remember, Alma Tilley will
give you $100 to go shopping. See Alma and create a basket. The Quilt Challenge
fabric theme for May is Worded Fabric. Fat Chance fat quarters theme for May is
landscape, rocks, woods, leafy, water, etc. Happy Creating!
Just a reminder we will not be meeting at the NPR Aquatic & Recreation Center for
the June and July meeting. The center has a summer program for the kids. We
will be meeting at Gulfview Grace Church, 6639 Hammock Rd. Port Richey. See
map on page 12.
Good friend are like quilts, they never lose their warmth.

As I said at the meeting,
it's hard to surprise us at
this age but you guys
sure did it! The quilt you
made is gorgeous.
I thank each of you from
the bottom of my heart.
It was a wonderful
2 year term as your
President. It is a huge
job. Rose Ann needs
support from each of you
to make her 2 year reign
as wonderful as mine
was.
Hugs and smooches,
Pam

Share the Wealth MEMBERSHIP
For the April Guild meeting, we at membership tried something a little bit different. We tried, (and I think we were mostly successful), to make sure all the new members got a guided tour of the “hall”. There's always a lot going on around the edges of the room and that can be a bit overwhelming for a new person. The reason I bring this to your attention is that some of the guides were expecting the job, and some of them were draft picks. So membership is looking for a few more people to join us to help with the tours. If you're interested, do stop by and say so, otherwise I'll just select some unsuspecting member from the crowd. About one hundred and eleven people signed in. (You forget to sign in, I count wrong, who knows?) Nine people discovered that they hadn't paid their dues yet and 5 new people joined. The new members are Connie Nelson, Elaine Donnelly, Jackie Ruhl, Peggy McCall and Rita Weitendorf. WELCOME!! Please try and visit a small group near you soon. Pat Donohoo
May recipient is Faith Baptist Church, Naomi Shoemaker.
Thank you, ladies, for the fantastic donation for Living Faith Community Church. We got a record amount of soda can tabs, an impressive amount of food, and cash was a huge surprise (and greatly appreciated) by the recipient. I love my job and the great amount of help I get. I was impressed with the many hands that went up when I asked for pillow cases for the domestic abuse shelter. I can't wait to take the large amount of toiletries I received and tell them what to expect next month. I will not be at the June, July, or August meeting so I have to pick them up in May to deliver them.
Please keep up the good work bringing in the following items: Metal Can pop tabs from soda, veggies, beans, etc., for The Shriners’ Children’s Hospital.
Box Top School Coupons from cake
mixes, cereal boxes, pizza, etc., for
St. James Bishop Larkin’s School.
Small sample bottles of lotion, soap,
shampoo & conditioner, and toothpaste,
like you get at hotels when traveling.
New: Pillowcases for the kids at the shelter.
Something to call their own when they leave.
These will help the domestic abuse shelter.
Please tell all your friends about these causes and they may want to help as well. It is greatly appreciated in these trying times. Thanks for your help and all you do. Donna Herrick, Food Bank

Fabric Scraps for 2020 Quilt Show
It’s Spring, time to Spring clean your sewing space!! While
you’re at it, please save those fabric scraps, UFO’s and LOP’s
(leftover pieces) to donate to the scrap bag project for next
year’s Quilt Show. The Quilt Show is coming up fast, so get
those fabrics in ASAP! You can bring them to the monthly
WPQG meeting (look for the scrap bag box) or put them in the
red plastic box at the Shalimar Clubhouse.
What we need:
Quilting fabric measuring less than a fat quarter & more than
3”x5”, ironed & folded in approximately 3”x5” packets. Any
fabric which is fat quarter size or larger will be cut into smaller
pieces or donated for other uses (this is so that vendors who
may be selling fat quarters at the show will not feel that we are
competing with them). The size of the packets (3x5) is
determined by the size of the bottom of a paper lunch bag
(the fabric pieces will be sold by the lunch bag-full, so this is
important).
We also need: UFO’s and Lop’s (leftover pieces of a project)
that coordinate and hopefully can be recycled into a smaller
project. It helps if you can put LOP’s into sandwich or storage
bags to keep small pieces together.
If you’re interested in helping to sort and iron donated fabric, please
contact me. Also contact me with any questions. Thanks.

Charity Sew is held at: Shalimar Mobile Home Village, 6529 Stone Rd. Port Richey FL
From 9 am to 3 pm. ALL ARE WELCOMED.
Our Charity Sew event is held once a month. It is always the next Wednesday after our monthly Guild meeting.
We do ask that items made on Charity Sew Wednesday be donated to charity. As a charity sew group we may work individually or help each other by sewing in teams, with piecing, quilting, ironing, cutting, backings, batting, sandwiching,
etc.
We provide the fabric and the batting.
As our Wednesday group has grown, we ask you to please remember to wear your name badge.
More quilters means more fabric, and lots of threads and scraps left
behind. Please help out by cleaning up your area before you leave. Assisting in putting back electrical cords, rulers, mats, and fabric
tubs is also appreciated.
THANK YOU. Please feel free to bring a dish to share.
Parking is limited. If you can carpool with a friend, that would be great!
**See page 9 for more details about the Guild’s other Small Groups!**

Thank you to all that bought fabric and misc. items at the yard sale. We raised over $200 that day. This will be used to buy additional batting as we go forward. Jacquie and I would also like to thank everyone who attended the April 6th Charity Sew Marathon! 25 people were in attendance. We also had a terrific group of about 28 ladies at the monthly Charity Sew on April 24th. We can’t wait to see all the finished quilts! We encourage every Guild member to participate in any manner possible, such as: sewing blocks, ironing quilt tops, cutting fabric, sandwiching quilts, quilting, cutting binding, sewing on binding, sewing on labels, etc. Even organizing the fabric that is constantly being donated, would be a great help. We even had a donation of fabric during our Charity Sew event this month! There are many quilts to be quilted. As the tops are being brought to us, we (the charity sew group), bundle them into kits with backing and batting. You can pick up a quilt kit and return it at the monthly Guild meeting or at Shalimar on any Wednesday. The Charity Sew table will be open at the Guild meetings from 9 am to 9:45 am only, so be sure to stop by early and pick up a kit!
Come Join Us! We have some simple patterns that turn into eye-catching designs. Charity sew patterns and dates: 5-22-19 Granny Sue’s Disappearing pinwheel! Sew much fun!
Fabric Sale Our Charity Sew "stash" has grown from the multiple donations in 2018 and 2019. We have bundled coordinating colors that will be available for purchase. The funds raised from the sale of these bundles will be used to purchase more batting for our charity quilts. When making quilts we hope you'll come "shop" here first.

Quilt Show 2020
News
As of the day I am writing this for the newsletter, it is exactly 10 months until our 2020 Eye of the Quilter Quilt Show. Tempus fugit, right? Our next Quilt Show meeting is Thursday, May 9 at Shalimar, 9:30 AM. Genie Betts has distributed around 40 fat quarters for the Guild Art Quilt Challenge and has contracted with the company for our memento pins. You will love them. We have secured almost all the vendors. There are still 2 or 3 spaces left if you have any ideas. Michelle Hale is working on door prizes. Again if you have any suggestions for door prizes let her know. The Basket Walk duo, Carol Buonomo and Rose Tienken, are looking for donations for another successful Basket Walk. We have added a new feature to the show, an Old Fashion Bed Turning. Sue Kolzcak is heading this up. She will tell you all about it in the coming months. Terri McConn and Jacquie Currey have started pricing boutique items. Terri has lots of patterns she has shared with all of us. Please come to the Quilt Show meeting. It takes our Quilt Village to accomplish another great show!

Several members have requested that we refrain from using perfume when we are in confined spaces, such as Contractors, workshops, and small
groups. Unfortunately, as we all get older, health conditions are not conducive to perfumes and can cause breathing problems, migraines,
etc., so please keep that in mind. Thank you.
