Fireworks for theFourth of July

FIREWORKS The summer holidays are right around the comer. Let's all

make this season a safe one by not discharging fireworks in our community. Fireworks pose not only safety concerns, but can also cause damage to our properties.

GENERAL PRECAUTIONS FOR THOSE NOT DISCHARGING FIREWORKS:

1. Water your lawn 2. Move cars/property indoors or cover vehicles 3. Remove piles of debris or flammable items from your yard 4. Stay alert and look for signs of a fire. If you see fire, call 911. Notify neighbors in immediate danger. If you feel that fireworks are required for celebration, please keep these safety tips in mind.

1. Be extra cautious if it is windy 2. Avoid projectile fireworks (rockets) 3. Do not purchase an excessive amount of fireworks 4. Be considerate of others and try not to discharge fireworks after midnight 5. Do not use neighborhood common areas to discharge fireworks. This includes the parking lots, fields, drainage ditches, etc. 6. Most important, if you do discharge fireworks, CLEAN UP YOUR TRASH!!!

Visit the National Council on Fireworks Safety at www.fireworksafety.com for more information. Also, visit the Bexar County Fire marshal’s website at http://gov.bexar.org/fm/ for the latest firework information.

Tech Alert. Are you concerned about texting while driving

throughout our community? Do you have a smartphone? Well, here is an app that you may want on your phone.

Unlike its market competitors, the SMS Replier AutoDrive function is a free-of-charge mobile phone application that knows when the user's vehicle is moving at a speed greater than 15 miles per hour. When enabled, the SMS Replier AutoDrive will automatically send a response to inbound calls and text messages. SMS Replier-Lite is a precursor to the upcoming retail release of SMS Replier, which in addition to numerous added safety features to be announced, will allow for calls and texts to be returned independently and in a personally customized fashion.

The SMS Replier-Lite GPS integration triggers the automatic text message response whenever a call arrives; the default reply of "I'm driving, I'll call or text you back as soon as I arrive at my destination" message for example. The SMS Replier-Lite is available on the Google Android and RIM's BlackBerry.

While at the movies, users don't have to worry about missing a call or text -- with just one click, an auto-response can say, "I'm at the movies, I'll call/text you later." SMS Replier-Lite comes with up to 25 pre-set convenience messages that are useful in a variety of circumstances, allowing users to automatically select easy text responses such as "in class," "in meeting," "golfing," or "busy."

You can download the SMS Replier-Lite to your Smartphone via the Android Marketplace or by visiting the SMS Replier web site, www.smsreplier.mobi.

If you download this app and use it in the month of June, please let your fellow residents know what you think on our Facebook group.

The gift of VounteeringThe Wildhorse HOA is preparing for its third volunteer recruitment

drive. Though we are pleased with the effort of our committees have made and the successful activities so many enjoy, there is still so much more this association can offer the community. The only essential missing ingredients are more concerned and dedicated people to step up and volunteer. There are literally eight different committees that you can participate in with at least one potentially matching your skills/interest. There are many events that our volunteers have suggested for kids of all ages that we just do not have the people-power to put on. Please consider signing up or requesting more information about many of the volunteer opportunities we have here for your sake and for that of your neighbors. We all want a safe, strong, and active community, but it will take all of us to make it happen, and we need YOU. Here is a listing of the committees we have available.

Community Development Committee – Tasked with the responsibility of planning future amenities at our common areas for the benefit of all Wildhorse residents.

Communication’s committee – Ensures members of the association are kept informed of news and events of relevance to the association by means of newsletters, the community website, and email alerts. [contact: [email protected]]

Pool Committee – Maximizes the benefits of the pool facilities to all residents of the community and encourages community participation by all members in the associations’ pool social events. [contact: [email protected]]

Public Works Committee – Maximizes the benefits of the community grounds for all members of the Association. [contact: [email protected]]

Recreation Committee – Responsible for organizing sports activities, clubs, or groups focused on recreational activities for the enjoyment of all in the community. [contact: [email protected]]

Safety Committee – Ensures members of the association are aware of all possible options in safeguarding our families and homes in the association by identifying threats both man-made and natural. [contact: [email protected]]

Social Committee – Plan and implement all social events and functions, and encourage community participation by all members of the associations’ social events. [contact: [email protected]]

There is also an opportunity for those who want to volunteer but do not have the time to attend regular committee meetings. The limited commitment Volunteer Corp (or “Ranch Hands”) is a listing of residents who sign up to assist any committee in need of volunteers for an event based on their availability to participate. Please contact [email protected] if you have interest in any of these committees. Also consider attending our committee appreciation and recruitment party on June 15th at the Timber Country Pool starting at 4pm.
