NATURAL DIVERSITYÖsterreichische Bundesforste land is home to some of the richest natural landscapes and most valuable cultural treasures in Austria.

From the rugged peaks and remote valleys in the west, the impres-sive giant trees and mountain forests of the Tyrolean mountains, and the landscape of the Dachstein glacier, to large sections of the Hallstatt UNESCO World Heritage Site and the picturesque Salz-kammergut region with its crystal-clear lakes. To the east can be found the captivating floodplains of the Donau- Auen, which are home to the enchanting Schloss Eckartsau hunting lodge. The south boasts attractive turquoise lakes surrounded by perfect alpine scenery.

WHERE NATURE IS AT HOMELike no other enterprise, Österreichische Bundesforste bears the re-sponsibility for Austria’s natural landscape. Every tenth square metre of national territory – corresponding to 510,000 hectares of forestry, 74 of the largest lakes, thousands of kilometres of watercourses and many of the highest peaks in the country – is entrusted to Bundes-forste for sustainable maintenance, protection and management. Nature conservation, the needs of society and economic success are all given the same importance at ÖBf.

Around half of the areas entrusted to ÖBf is protected due to their uniqueness and their importance for Austrian natural heritage.
