Dear Traveller,

In a seemingly ever-shrinking world it has become increasingly difficult to find unique destinations and travel

experiences. If that is what you are looking for then you are in the right place. Small ship cruises offer new and

seasoned travellers alike the opportunity to discover new destinations or to see a familiar destination from a

new perspective.

For me small ship cruises in many ways represent a return to a bygone era of travel, to a time when people

would join a voyage as a rite of passage to learn about themselves, other cultures and to experience the

wonder of a destination as if looking at it through new eyes. Today’s small ships and their itineraries stay true

to the original. They don’t come with the dancing girls, casinos and floating shopping malls associated with

their larger cousins, instead they focus on experiential travel designed to take you places, educate you and

inspire you. You are more likely to find yourself aboard a small ‘zodiac’ landing craft mooring in a tiny deserted

bay or listening to local experts as they guide you through ancient ruins rather than browsing the aisles of the

duty free section.

At Wild Earth Travel we are passionate about small ship travel and have over 20 years experience onboard.

For the last 10 years as an Expedition Leader and guide I have travelled the globe on small ships from the icy

waters of the poles to remote tropical atolls and believe that there is no better way to travel. Not only does

your home travel with you, so there is no unpacking and repacking or delays with security, but small ships are

unrivalled in their manoeuvrability and flexibility, so you can literally visit places inaccessible to others.

Our collection of small ship cruises has been carefully researched and compiled, we know each ship

individually and between our team we have personally travelled on nearly every vessel that is in our brochure,

to many of the destinations on offer. So when we say that we are the small ship experts…we really are. The

ships and itineraries that you will find in this brochure have been individually selected to give you the best

experiences both onboard and ashore and we are confident that we will have an itinerary to meet your budget

and destination.

Join us and discover a whole new world of travel opportunities and experiences, from the remote corners of

the globe to the more conventional there is a small ship cruise for nearly everyone, to anywhere!

Smooth Sailing!

Small Ships - Big ExperiencesThere was a time, not long ago, when all cruises were much the same. The last twenty years or so has witnessed an immense and quick evolution and today you are spoilt for choice. If like us you find resort style vessels accommodating a couple of thousand passengers a daunting prospect then we can help take away the stress of choosing the right cruise holiday. Leafing through the pages of this brochure you will discover that the ships featured here range from only 50 to 150 passengers, and in some special instances carry as little as twelve passengers. What will be missing on these cruise itineraries are round the clock buffets and the vast crowds which is what has come to be the norm on large “Cruise Ships”. Gone are the endless queues to embark and disembark at ports and the pounding noise of discos, endless entertainment and the sound of your money

dropping into the slot machines in onboard casinos are non existent! These are voyages for the real traveller with specialist cruise operators that do not cut corners in their quest to ensure your onboard experience is of the highest quality. These small ships offer you the opportunity to make a choice and to travel without the crowds, in a more intimate style (some

would say more traditional). Travel for what you see and experience, learn as you travel and do all this in the company of a group of like-minded travellers! Our small ships offer comfortable or even luxurious accommodation and many other amenities to make your stay as comfortable as possible but above all else they are designed to take you places and give you memorable experiences that the super cruise liners cannot match.

How important is the destination to you?In all the developments in cruising over the past couple of decades the one thing that appears to have been forgotten is the destination and the right itinerary. These used to be the most significant elements in a travel decision and the deciding factor for many. However, the advent of the big ship has led to the downgrading of what we think is the

most important part of the cruise…where you are going! This is because large ships can only dock in large ports with the supporting infrastructure necessary to service the vessel, and large numbers of passengers. For us the destination is still paramount. Small ships have the freedom of the seas and can come alongside in small docks or drop anchor in any suitable spot. After all, you do not go on holiday to be part of the all engulfing masses that descend when a number of large ships dock at the same time. Arriving at a port for the first time should be an invigorating experience and can certainly be so when the right place is chosen and your arrival is on a small ship.

All Inclusive TravelAlmost all of our small ship cruises are all inclusive, this means that what you read in the itinerary is included in price, no hidden extras, no up-selling onboard and most importantly no nasty surprises when you get to the end of your cruise. On the rare occasions when there is an optional extra excursion this will be noted in the itinerary, and we will tell you the price before you leave home. Once aboard your small ship cruise the only place you have to spend more is in the gift shop and bar,

and on some of our ships even house drinks are included. So while our cruises might not appear to be the cheapest option out there, remember that you have pre-paid for your trip and therefore will not have a huge credit card bill outlining the added extras with all the transaction charges when you return home. Our customers agree that our voyages are excellent value for money when you consider what is included in the price.

PricingIn recent years world currencies have been fluctuating wildly and it is because of this that you will find our cruises priced in different currencies. We have chosen to give you the cruise prices in the currency that the individual ships operate, that means that you get the best price possible. Why? Because if the pricing was in your local currency then there are buffers for currency fluctuation which almost invariably mean that you pay more. Our prices are transparent, pay no more than necessary and if the exchange rates are favourable you can always pay at any time to ensure you get the best price possible. It’s just another way that we can ensure that you have the best experience possible and at the best price!

Selected ItinerariesWe have endeavoured to include as wide a selection of available voyages as possible in this brochure, however there really are too many to list! We have therefore had to be selective in our choice to give you an overview but we really do encourage you to call us before making your decision. In many cases we often have more than one departure for a selected itinerary, or more than one ship travelling to the destination, and in some instances even departures at other times of the year. So if you cannot find something that suits your requirements speak to us or check our website for an exhaustive list of our ships, departures and destinations.

Our small ship cruises fall into two categories:

Hot Offers! As your small ship specialist you can be rest assured that we will work hard to get the best value deals for you. We have a great working relationship with most small ship cruise providers – all leaders in their field - and we are in daily contact with them. This way we are able to keep up to date with their availability and have access to any special discounts or deals that they may have on offer. So if you are in the process of making some provisional plans it may pay to call us or check our website before you set your plans in stone. By simply opting to travel a week later may mean you can make some great savings, which means more money in your pocket to spend whilst away!

GroupsIf you are travelling with a group for whatever reason and to whichever destination Wild Earth Travel are able to negotiate some fantastic group rates for you and your friends and family. The bigger the group the greater the discount! The minimum size for group discounts vary depending on the operator so make sure you contact us to find out more information.

Single TravellersIf you are not travelling with anyone else, don’t despair many of our small ship cruises do not apply a single supplement charge if you are happy to share with a like minded traveller of the same sex. This way you have the opportunity to save money and make friends along the way. Please note not all cruise operators adopt this policy so check with us or your agent to see if a single supplement applies.

Small Ship Destination CruisingThis category offers slightly less energetic cruising than expedition cruising, but is nevertheless for the serious traveller. The itineraries offered here are comprehensive and in the main concentrate on a particular area or the natural world whilst others may be more cultural. You will still experience the benefits of travelling with knowledgeable onboard staff, these hand-picked experts are naturalists, historians and ecologists who will share their knowledge and enthusiasm during forays ashore and whilst onboard. They will supervise the daily programme, holding talks and briefings throughout the cruise. The onboard cruise team has one aim, to make your trip as enjoyable, relaxing and informative as possible. What you will find onboard is a warm and peaceful atmosphere in which you can learn more about the wonders of nature, culture and ancient civilisations in the company of like-minded people.

Expedition CruisingExpect the unexpected is the principle rule of expedition cruising. If you enjoy seeing and learning about the wonders of nature, be it birds, mammals, marine life or geology, an expedition cruise offers the perfect environment. Expedition cruises vary from a ‘usual’ cruise as the itinerary is less defined. Although we set sail with a structured itinerary, it is the unscheduled events that often become the highlight of the journey. The places visited and the order in which this is achieved will vary depending on wildlife sightings and diversions; such as following a whale that may appear at anytime.

small ship choice

Travelling aboard a small expedition ship is often the only way to access some of the remote destinations included in our itineraries; forsake the wider shipping lanes for channels just a few hundred feet wide and discover treasures on our planet that remain pristine due to their protected and secluded locations. Travel with a team of expert naturalists who are ashore with you and also provide informative talks onboard. Most excursions employ Zodiac craft, these agile inflatable craft are ideal for landing in otherwise inaccessible places and aim to enhance your experience and enjoyment, providing for up close and personal possibilities with nature, wildlife and local communities.

For most travellers, visiting the ‘White Continent’ is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. So, if you have the time, why not perfect your Antarctica expedition by including visits to South Georgia and the Falklands — our travellers never regret it. This voyage has it all: the impossible beauty of Antarctic ice, over 150,000 King Penguins on a single beach in South Georgia and the Falkland’s human history and amazing bird colonies. You’ll see three distinct regions, each offering wonderful experiences and sights. The Falkland Islands are not only home to a resilient people with a long and fascinating history but also some great wildlife encounters. In one colony alone over 100,000 Black-browed Albatross breed annually, while Rockhopper and Magellanic Penguins compete for attention. South Georgia Island is one of the world’s premier wildlife spectacles, all who visit are enthralled by the abundance of life – and who wouldn’t be, as they are greeted upon landing by countless stately King Penguins. Steeped in whaling lore and tales from Ernest Shackleton’s heroic exploits there, the island is covered mostly in glaciers, and explodes with life: five million pairs of Macaroni Penguins, a thriving fur seal population, and thousands of elephant seals breed here. Then there is the Antarctic, with its tabular icebergs, still more wildlife and a fascinating history of exploration and discovery. No matter which expedition you choose, the wildlife will be abundant and the scenery spectacular. Generally November and December will have more snow and ice in South Georgia and Antarctica, with the wildlife involved in courtship and raising their small chicks. While January-March expeditions will have less snow and ice, the fledgling chicks will be starting to moult and there are greater chances of seeing whales.

The MS Stockholm feels more like a private yacht giving you the sensation of exploring the region for the first time as the earlier adventurers did. Unlike those who forged the seas before you, you will be able to relax in the comfort of a beautifully renovated vessel, whilst enjoying a high standard of food and beverage included in the cost. This is a truly fantastic way to experience the wildlife and landscape of Spitsbergen and its wildlife in the land of the ‘midnight sun’.

Circumnavigation of SpitsbergenAboArd: MS QuestPrices From: EUR €3,990dePArts: 18th, 28th July; 7th,17th, 27th Aug 2011

During this exciting circumnavigation of Spitsbergen, you will explore the glacier-coated fjords and beautiful bays for which the area is known. The goal of the expedition is to explore Spitsbergen’s nature, fauna, cultural heritage and to visit sites where few people have set foot. You will travel through Spitsbergen’s magnificent archipelago and ice permitting may make a full circumnavigation. Visit bird cliffs and walrus colonies, hike on the tundra and cruise along glacier fronts. This little expedition ship has the highest ice class and can carefully break through the pack ice in the eastern part of the archipelago. Here in the pack ice you will have good chances of seeing the lord of the Arctic, the Polar Bear. We will be travelling in the footsteps of polar explorers such as Andree, Amundsen and Nobile and every day you will have opportunities to make landfall in spectacular settings.

Day 1 – Longyearbyn, SvalbardDays 2 to 10 – SpitsbergenVisiting Barentsburg and Ny Ålesund, Northwest Svalbard, Krossfjorden, North Spitsbergen and Auk Mountain, Eastern Svalbard and Southwest Svalbard.Day 11 – Longyearbyn, Svalbard

Only 600 miles from the North Pole, Svalbard is true wilderness: strikingly beautiful, completely raw and undeniably exciting. It is a remote and spectacular archipelago of immense glaciers, narrow fjords and abundant wildlife. With over 3000 Polar Bears there are twice as many bears as there are people, and this makes Svalbard one of the very best places in the world to see and photograph this magnificent animal. This is expedition cruising at its very best, where flexibility ensures the greatest experiences; land on beaches covered by massive walrus and break through the polar pack ice in search of seals and, of course, their predator – the majestic Polar Bear. Seabirds - such as Ivory Gulls, guillemots, fulmars and kittiwakes - will be our constant companions during the trip and we will also look out for puffins and Little Auks, which nest here in millions. In the beginning of the season, Spitsbergen’s flowers are in full bloom and the bird colonies are bustling with life. In the latter part of the season we have very good possibilities of exploring the remote, eastern parts of the archipelago where bears spend the ice-free months on land.

Around southern Baffin Island are the artistic communities of Pangnirtung and Cape Dorset, internationally recognised for their print making and carving. Each expedition not only provides a great introduction to the region, but by travelling with locals and experts you gain a greater understanding of the landscape and its people. There is an aura about Monteverde’s cloud forest that soothes the spirit. The mist drifting past silhouettes of majestic trees, the cool quiet and the haunting music of a bird called ‘solitaire’. Trees draped in a profusion of bromeliads and orchids create a powerful impression of abundance and life. Amid such greenery, the lacy-fronded tree fern, unchanged since early ecological times, stands out as a signature cloud forest specimen. For those lucky enough to glimpse the elusive resplendent quetzal, one of the world’s most beautiful birds, it becomes clear how colour and grace could inspire the reverence of Mayan civilizations. The cloud forest is a secretive place, revealing its magic to the trained eye of our Naturalists, who will help you observe all facets of this marvellous habitat. On this cruise you will have a ground-level experience by walking the forest trail and then head up into the canopy to take a forest ‘skywalk’. From the Andean Altiplano to the low-lying coastal deserts, South America never fails to reward its visitors. Home to some of the most breathtaking scenery, traditional culture and amazing wildlife-viewing opportunities any region of the world could offer, this continent is a photographer’s and nature lover’s paradise. Ancient civilizations have left their mark amongst the ruins of cities lost to man until the last century: the incredible and deserted pre-Inca adobe city of Chan Chan; the mysterious and awe-inspiring Machu Picchu; and the modern day copper mining ghost towns of the Chilean deserts. South America bears its scars of human habitation across the ages. This is contrasted by some the highest snow-capped peaks on the planet, stunning glaciated land masses, the Atacama region (the driest desert on earth) and the incredible salt lakes - all formed over millennia and still standing the test of time. Add to this the passionate cultures of the South American people and their love for life displayed in their music, dance and traditional festivals and you will find that it is an exhilarating destination. On these small ship cruises no two days are the same; regular excursions ashore give you the chance to experience superb variety, resulting in an unforgettable adventure that you will find difficult to match.

Welcome to the serenity and chaos that contrasts in Southeast Asia. This region exposes you to a range of experiences where the outcome can be overwhelming. How could these cultures have overcome so much adversity, unleashed over thousands of years and still be the epitome of optimism. Feel the energy of ancient empires and sophisticated cultures. Walk in palaces of kings who had over one hundred wives. You will see the architecture that reflects the influences of Chinese Dynasties and France’s expansionist era, side by side. Reflect on the events that made both sides of the Vietnam conflict heroes of adversity and survivors of tragic politics and you can reflect and ponder the Cambodian madness and then be uplifted by a people who believe in a great future. Separated from the Mainland by the South China sea lies Borneo, the third largest island in the world, and home to the world’s oldest tropical rainforests which, until recently, covered the entire island. Amongst the planet’s most biologically diverse ecosystems, prepare to feel as though you have just stepped into a zoological paradise, such is the diversity of Borneo’s floral, faunal, and cultural ecology. Relax, sit back and take in some of the 15000 plants, 222 species of mammals, 420 resident birds, 100 amphibians, and 394 species of fish and 500 species of reef building corals. All this making Borneo a global epicentre of marine biodiversity that has resulted in this region becoming one of the most important for marine conservation.

Provided full payment is received by this time, Wild Earth Travel shall take all steps necessary to reconfirm and verify all reservations in advance of the date of travel, as may be required by our operators & service suppliers.

3. Late & Minimum BookingsIf bookings are made 15 days or less prior to the date of travel, then a Late Booking Fee of NZ$100 per file will be charged to offset administration costs. If the total invoiced amount of a client’s booking is less than NZ$300, then a Minimum Booking Fee of NZ$50 per file will be charged to offset administration costs.

Subsequent fees will be charged as follows;120-91 days - 50% of invoice total;less than 90 days - 100% of invoice total. The above figures are given as a guideline. Actual cancellation fees may vary due to the level of charges passed on by our operators & suppliers, and due to irregular business conditions (eg. High Season special rates / cancellation rules). Any special conditions should be advised at time of booking. Note: Upon commencement of travel, 100% cancellation fees will apply for clients not utilising any travel arrangements, or for any
