DESCRIPTION
A Quick update on Wider Role
Citation preview
Thenew believes that by working at the heart of the local community we can help make a positive difference to the quality of our tenants’ lives and the communities in which we operate.
We recently completed a review of our wider role activities. The tenants and committee members who took part in that review thought it would be of interest to you if we shared that information with you all.
This insert in our regular newsletter will hopefully explain:
• what wider role is & how we deliver it
• why we do it
• what benefit it brings for us all
In 2005 we set up a formal Wider Role Sub Committee which oversees and supervises our wider role activities. Tenants from Castlemilk, Bridgeton, Cranhill and Calton are members of that sub committee and we also consulted all the local tenants groups and area association groups with whom we work before we finalise the strategy.
Our Wider Role Strategy was agreed by our Management Committee in December 2007, and reviewed again in 2009.

Examples of our InvolvementThey range from simple things like organising day trips for older tenants to employing youth workers.
Here are some of the activities we have supported.
Bridgeton: Joint funder and ongoing Board Member of the Bridgeton Community Learning Campus
Blackhill: A summer activities programme which allow; the groups to go on develop after school clubs
Castlemilk: Three year funding for a youth work project with Urban Fox
Cranhill: 8 apprenticeships
Calton: Our successful Silver Surfers Project. Intergenerational history project with Friends of the Weavers
Employment: Involvement in training for people who want careers in housing involving both Glasgow East Regeneration Agency and Castlemilk Economic Development Agency
Our very successful Financial Inclusion Service which has recently been expanded has resulted in £200,000 of additional benefits and income to a number of tenants.
Inter-Agency Work We are a founder member of the East End Housing Association Regeneration Forum and are pleased to be working with Milnbank, Parkhead, Tollcross and Shettleston Housing Associations.
One of our priorities over the next year will be to develop work and training opportunities for local people.
