was survived by his two sons.

L. Young weeks earlier. Officer Fitzpatrick attemptedto apprehend the suspects for questioning, but the leader of the gang accelerated the vehicle and sped off as one of the gang members fired fromthe car, killing Fitzpatrick.

Location: Driverless Auto Livery, 306 S. Lawrence Ave.

A suspected murderer and gangster was attempting to rent a car from a motor livery; evidently the police were alerted by the business y; y p yowner. When Detective Hoffman and two others entered the back door of the livery, the assailant recognized them and drew his gun. Detective Hoffman lunged forward seizing the suspect, the suspect worked his gun hand free and fired striking Hoffman The suspect worked his gun hand free and fired, striking Hoffman. The suspect then fired on one of the other officers, hitting him. The third officer, hidden behind a pillar, took careful aim and killed the gangster. Detective Hoffman succumbed to his wound three days later.

Detective Hoffman was survived by his wife and three children.

Officer Scudder was responding to a disturbance call at a dance hall.

Proceeding up the stairs he met an assailant whom he halted and

attempted to body search. The suspect fired, wounding Scudder, and then attempted to body search. The suspect fired, wounding Scudder, and then

fled. Another officer followed in pursuit. Officer Scudder died three days

later of his wound.

Officer Harrisons Brown was the first black officer to be killed in

advised of a man with a gun, Officer Brown stopped the man and

asked to speak to him a minute. The assailant drew a revolver from

beneath his overcoat and fired. Officer Brown ran to the door and

emptied his revolver as the man fled up the street. Officer Brown

then fell into the arms of a witness who ran to his aid.

Officer Harrison was survived by his wife.

Officer Harrison Brown served over two years with the Wichita Police Department.

The killers, were shot and mortally wounded by Officer Bush.

Officer Marshall was survived by his wife and two children.

domestic disturbance Sergeant Snider and three domestic disturbance. Sergeant Snider and three

other deputies had responded to the call. While trying to

talk the suspect into dropping the weapon, the suspect ran

to the back door in an attempt to escape. Sergeant Snider

was the first to stop him. During a struggle the suspect

stabbed Sergeant Snider, killing him.g g
