Who would be the audience for your media product?

This presentation will show who the target audience for Smarten Up is and why it was chosen in accordance to research from real media products of the same genre and gender preferences. Initially gender stereotypes had to be explored in terms of what interests each gender and attracts them to certain films. These may be aspects of the mise-en-scene, production or genre. From my research I found that males and females are biologically spirited differently. Males are more stronger whereas females are more vulnerable. Although this is a biological difference it is portrayed in their film choices also. Females - RomanceFemales like romance films because of the passion, the emotion and the affection that the movie conveys. Love stories in films which usually include love at the first sight, long-distance love, forbidden love etc. often draw much attention from women as they bring great fantasies to womens imaginative and creative minds. Women seem to prefer fairy tale type movies due to their imagination of what they want their love life to be like. Males Action&Adventure Males like action films as they feel stronger, more energetic as weapons and cars create intensity to stimulate males. Males watch adventure films more than females are always eager to discover new and wild experiences which happen to be the central topics of adventure movies. Finally males they also want to show that they are brave, strong and heroic as the main characters in every action films. That is why they naturally find action and adventure movies appealing. However.. One new convention of action films is the new sub plot of a love story in movies such as Spiderman. This gets a greater female audience that is previously did. The most effective method to gather a greater female audience is the synergy of action and comedy. This is effective as males and females both enjoy comedy and there is still the sub plot of a love story. This is shown in IMDB ratings as females are seen to enjoy action comedies more than men even though there is still a greater male audience

Statistics on IMDB reviews also show that these action comedies are most favoured by under 18s. This shows that the target audience for action comedies are both genders under 18.

Although it is highly favoured by under 18s it gathers a larger audience of 18-29 year olds. From my research I conclude that the audience Smarten Up is both genders aged 16-29. This is because people who are over 16 are more likely to work and have a greater disposable income. Another reason why it is over 15 is because of the use of strong language and strong violence.
