Our purpose

To help our youth to find their WAY to a connected and positive future.

The Trials test what happens when a community, local organisations and government agencies are supported to come together to address local issues.

What does a Social Sector trial look like?

Trial leads, together with their communities: plan social service delivery manage relevant service provision

contracts and funding oversee resources-in-kind develop networks, engage with

the community influence social services outside

of their direct control (like statutory services).

The model aims to support decision making at the local level, build on existing networks and strengthen coordination at every level of government and within the community.

Increasing Student Attendance

Hired a dedicated Attendance AdvisorStreamlined Attendance Forums supporting 140+ students a quarter

– 8 youth last term exited due to increased engagement! (– in NEN)Provided ASA training to attendance personnel Expanded Truancy Free ZoneIncreased community awareness re: TruancyLobbied for expansion of the local SWiS programmeEnrolled 14 missing in action youth into secondary schools in February 2014 – None missing in 201538 youth and families supported around surmounting obstacles to their academic progress. 18 transitioned positively into secondary school !310 years 6’s screened with an early Intervention screening tool

Harm Minimisation around Youth Substance Use

Set up a Youth AoD Prevention forum to increase networking and feedback900+ youth surveyed and created a stocktake of local activities17 Youth workers trained in facilitating the Smashed and Stoned early intervention programme550 youth and community members experienced youth substance workshops30 youth participated in an After 5pm Bussing initiative to increase positive engagement after school15 Substance Free Summer & 9 Easter Holiday Community led Activities offered (400+youth participating)Dub Youth Hub opened in February 2015 with over 420youth engaged10,000 AoD Leaflets producedNew Blue Light Coordinator working with community to provide positive alternatives and activities for over 464 youth since November 2014.

Increasing Education, Training & Employment

Set up a ETE forum to increase networking & feedbackBiz involved in Trials ( work experience sites, truancy zone, Career Expo)16, fifteen year old youth creatively supported to continue with their education bc of ETE networking140+ youth received career support through the youth service outreach in the schools programme47 youth increasingly engaged through Future Leaders programme (90% attendance, increase in self confidence at school)New intermediate support Prgm – 10 students engaged with 99% attendance, increase in self confidence & engagement)Local & a Collaborative Training poster created

Helping youth to stay out of Trouble

Local Iwi have provided 22 youth and families wrap around support towards more positive path12 Iwi led pre-family group conference meetings to empower the family to be more proactive and engaged in the meeting and resulting in a more effective plan and outcome for the youth.Rehabilitation supports review our DHB/Sorted has partnered with Youth Justice to review the supports available upon return from residence/ rehabilitation including ensuring transition & ongoing care plans include family support ( 4 youth and families)
