RACE TO REGENERATE - THE GREAT KAURI RUN - REVISED DATE Due to Covid 19, The Great Kauri Run, held on the Coromandel peninsula has a revised date of Saturday 1st May 2021. The run comprises of a series of trail runs or walks. 200 years ago, most of the Coromandel peninsula was covered in Kauri forest. Today very few of these majestic giants of the forest remain. To date 3,385 kauri have been planted, covering a distance of 13km. There are five event distances, for all ages and range of fitness:

CELEBRATING JPC CULTURES AND RAISING MONEY FOR REFUGEES!

Last week the JPC community celebrated some

of the many cultures represented at the college.

We began on Tuesday with a Flag ceremony to

introduce the different countries and cultures.

Then on Thursday lunch-time the parents, staff

and students celebrated our cultures with our

International Food Festival. Food from a range of

countries ranging from paella from Spain, potato wedges from Ireland, spaghetti from the

Philippines, Japanese crispy chicken, Korean

spicy noodles, rice pudding from China and

waffles from Belgian, plus many more!

As well as celebrating our cultures, all the profits

from the festival will go to the Red Cross Refugee

Centre in Hamilton, representatives of which

came along to the festival.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to

the festival, whether behind the scenes cooking,

manning the stalls, or simply buying some of the

yummy food. The festival raised in excess of

$3000 for the refugees, well done!!

HOCKEY Sports Photos Friday 12th August, 2020

A reminder regarding the above. All hockey teams will be taken in their team uniforms.

Physical Education Uniform

The Health and Physical Education will trial for this term 3 with the colder weather the following:

Students will be able to wear black exercise leggings/skins. These are to be worn under for Yr 7 - Yr 11 students under their JPC black PE shorts. Yr 12 PE uniform is suitable and appropriate clothing for physical activity. They will be permitted to wear the above under their shorts.

This means that the Yr 11 and Yr 12 girls will not be allowed to wear their school uniform stockings/tights under their shorts. Yr 11 & 12 girls wearing exercise leggings will need to bring sports socks or other socks with their footwear. Black track pants are still allowed to be worn this term.

The rugby season has arrived and with a lot of changes through Covid, and the BOPRU, it is now time to knuckle down and play some rugby.

Over the school holidays the 1st XV played two games. The first was our yearly game against Matamata played over at Matamata. This is always a challenge as Matamata are similar to JPC in the Waikato Secondary Schools competition. The first half was close with JPC leading, however with a reality check at half time, JPC run away with a deserving victory. The U14’s also played and came away with the victory. This showed we were not ready for the season ahead but great progress had been made.

The 1st XV had another game through the holidays playing Macleans College from Auckland. This team plays in the ultra-competitive 1B competition in Auckland and last season finished at the top but lost the promotion/relegation game, so remains in 1B. They were a big side however the JPC 1st XV played with the heart and determination that they are renown for and earned the respect of the players and management alike, losing 19-10. The JPC team gave Macleans College a big wake up call. Lots of positives and plenty to build on for the season ahead. Last Friday the U14’s played RBHS Black for a preseason game and came away with a great win. Again the boys played extremely well and showed that there is a future in the school for rugby. The JPC Rugby Community have also volunteered to be part of Operation Whakahokia in conjunction with the RSA, which involves finding all the service men’s graves in the Rotorua region and helping GPS plot, clean and refurbish the graves. We have been to the Rotorua Cemetery and helped locate and start the process of cleaning up the graves. Next is Kauae Cemetry in Ngongotaha. This week’s games are as follows 27th July Girls Rugby vs Taupo Nui a Tia 4pm @ JPC 31st July U16’s v Aquinas/TWOM @ Aquinas 3.45pm 1 August 1st XV v Aquinas/TWOM @ Aquinas Midday

U14’s v TBC Thanks to all our sponsors and supporters. We will see you on the side line. Best Regards Richard Haigh 027 7773445
