On 26 April 2013 we wrote to you notifying you of and requesting comments on the proposed application for a Development Consent Order for the construction of new landfill void to the west of the existing landfill site for the disposal of hazardous waste together with associated development at Whitemoss Landfill, Whitemoss Road South, Skelmersdale, Lancashire.

The application has been amended where possible to reflect the comments and feedback that we have received during the consultation process. Copies of all written comments received have been included in the application documents. On 20 December 2013 the application was submitted by Whitemoss Landfill Limited to the Major Applications and Plans Directorate (MAPD) at the Planning Inspectorate and on 17 January 2014 it was confirmed that the application has been accepted for examination in accordance with Section 55 of the Planning Act 2008.

We are writing to notify you of the acceptance of the application for examination. The application is a development which in accordance with The Infrastructure Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations 2009 as amended must be accompanied by an Environmental Impact Assessment. A plan showing the location of the site is included in the Non-Technical Summary. We enclose for your information a copy of an information leaflet regarding the proposed development at the site which is being circulated to local businesses, organisations, schools, churches, faith groups, elected representatives and to individual households in proximity to the site for information. All of the application documents including plans showing the location of the site are available on the Whitemoss Landfill Project web page of the Planning Inspectorate web site for you to review:

Paper copies of the application documents, plans and maps are available for inspection free of charge at Whitemoss Landfill Site, Whitemoss Road South, Skelmesdale, Lancashire from 10.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday. In addition paper copies of the application documents, plans and maps are available for inspection free of charge at Skelmersdale Library, Up Holland Library, the West Lancashire Borough Council Customer Service Point in the concourse and West Lancashire District Council Headquarters at 52 Derby Street, Ormskirk during their standard opening hours. A paper copy of the full set of the documents can be made available for a copying charge of £450 for the full suite of documents or an electronic copy on CD can be provided for £5.
