Whipstick Whispers

Wednesday August 5th 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

The Victorian Government has now advised that all schools will move to Remote and Flexible Learning for all of our

students from Wednesday 5th August.

The same directive from our first Flexible and Remote Learning period still applies. All students who can learn

at home must learn from home. This is a very clear directive by the Victorian Government based on the advice of

the Chief Health Officer.

All students will be learning from home, except for children on days when they are not able to be supervised at home

and no other arrangements can be made. There is more detail on this matter at the end of this letter.

Most of our teachers will also be working from home. As was the case in our first period of Flexible and Remote

Learning, our staff have been developing teaching and learning programs to ensure continuity of learning and to support

the wellbeing of all our students.

We have made some modifications to the way we will deliver Flexible and Remote Learning this time around. You

will be made aware of these modifications as we work our way through this time. This letter is designed to give you

an outline of the programs being delivered by each Year level team of teachers.

Please note if you have any questions or wish to give us some feedback about Flexible and Remote Learning, Helen

and Craig will be available between 8:30am and 3:30pm to talk to you. You can also e-mail the school and we will

get back to you as soon as we can.

Arrangements to facilitate Remote and Flexible Learning for Eaglehawk North students during Term 3

Year 3-6

The Year 3-6 students will be learning via Google Classroom, Google Calendar and Google Meet.

You will find details of how to log on to Google Classrooms in the student learning packs that were sent home

on Monday 3rd August with the students. If you are having issues with logins etc. please contact the office.

All tasks and correspondence for students will be relayed via these platforms.

If there are circumstances where students are unable to access the internet, a hard copy of the week’s tasks will

be available for pick up from the school. This pick up will take place between 1:30pm-3:00p.m. on Fridays

via the Drive Through.

Class Dojo will be available for parents to ask questions about the learning tasks that have been set for students.

Teachers may not answer questions immediately but will get back to you as soon as possible.

Please be aware it is not an expectation that students will be online all day. There are tasks that can be

downloaded, completed and then uploaded for the teacher to view.

Please note that in this second phase of Flexible and Remote Learning, The Year 3-6 staff will not be available

on Wednesdays as they will participating in planning and administration meetings. This is the day for students

to catchup on tasks and undertake the tasks allocated by the specialist teachers (Art, Chinese, Music and

Physical Education).

Year 1-2

Given the feedback we had from the parents/careers of Year 1-2 students, we will continue with a combination of hard

packs and Google Classrooms. The first of these hardcopy packs will be available at the Drive Through gate this Friday

7th August from 1:30-3:00 p.m.

The pack will contain 2 weeks worth of tasks. We will be seeking feedback from you over the next few weeks to see how

this process is working for you. All tasks handed out in the hard packs will be available for printing on Google

Classrooms.

The next set of tasks will be available on Friday 21st August via the Drive Through between 1:30pm -3:00p.m.

Classroom conferences, reading sessions etc will be conducted with students via Google Classrooms. Details of these

activities will be sent via your child’s classroom teacher.

You will find details of how to log on to Google Classrooms in the learning pack sent home on Monday 3rd August.

Class Dojo will be the major means of communication with parents.

Please note that in this second phase of Flexible and Remote Learning, The Year 1-2 staff will not be available on

Wednesdays as they will participating in planning and administration meetings. This is the day for students to catchup

on tasks and undertake the tasks allocated by the specialist teachers (Art, Chinese, Music and Physical Education).

Prep-1

All Prep work for Remote and Flexible Learning will be uploaded on to the Seesaw digital platform. Details of how to

logon to Seesaw were sent home in the learning packs on Monday 3rd August.

You will have received enough reading material for two weeks in the learning packs that went home on Monday 3rd August.

The next pick up of reading material will be Friday 14th August from 1:30pm -3:00p.m. These packs will be replaced on

a Friday between the hours of 1:30-3:00 p.m.

Communication for parents with teachers will still be Class Dojo.

Please note that in this second phase of Flexible and Remote Learning, The Year Prep-1 staff will not be available on

Tuesdays as they will participating in planning and administration meetings. This is the day for students to catchup on tasks and

undertake the tasks allocated by the specialist teachers (Art, Chinese, Music and Physical Education).

The Department has indicated that students that do not have access to devices or the internet, will be loaned devices/

dongles from the school.

Given that this is a finite resource, please contact Liz to see if we can accommodate your request.

Parents who wish to take part in this offer will be asked to sign documentation that asks you to adhere to the

Departments Privacy Policy and that you will be responsible for any damage to the loaned devices.

Learning from home

The same advice we gave to families in the first period of Flexible and Remote Learning still applies.

We note that every family is different and every family has their own routines. It’s up to you how you manage

the learning day. As we move into the second period of Remote and Flexible Learning the main goal is to set up a

regular routine, so that everyone knows what is going to happen each day. Here are some suggestions for the

children:

Set up a comfortable learning area on a table or a desk in a common area of your house. Make sure you have

plenty of light to see what you are doing.

Maintain set wake up times, e.g. 8.00am. Eat a nice breakfast, go outside for a bit of a play if you can and avoid

technology. Chat about your plans for the day.

Aim for two or three learning blocks per day.

During the learning blocks, complete work that your teacher has provided to you. Technology should only be

used for learning during this time.

Whipstick Whispers

In between learning blocks, do physical activity, have play time, creative time or do helpful jobs around the

house for mum or dad. Go outside, do craft, draw, play Lego, play board games. Bake, sing, dance, and make

movies. Use playdough, work in the garden, cook, design and build something. It’s up to you!

Eat well and enjoy your meals together as a family.

Read to a parent or a sibling once a day.

If you play video games, use the internet or watch TV, agree on set times per day. Be cyber-safe and only use

technology in sight of your parents or guardians.

We can appreciate that with so many different family situations happening that your hours and school hours may not always

completely align.

With this in mind teachers have planned by and large for a flexible learning environment, allowing all families to also have some

flexibility as well.

Teachers will be available for class related work with your children between 9:00 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. as per any other school day.

As per any other school day, teachers also have planning time, meeting times, lunch, breaks and other duties (such as leadership

duties etc.) that are also taking part behind the scenes.

From an administrative perspective all teachers have multiple roles they are fulfilling, including - like you, being parents of

children who are remote learning themselves, carers for elderly, dealing with illness and dealing with many of the same issues

that you will be at home.

We realise that there will be teething problems as we move to Remote and Flexible Learning for the foreseeable future. We

will respond to these as they arise.

Please remember, we are all venturing into this together, let’s help and support each other to do the best we can until we are

all back at school.

Onsite Attendance at Eaglehawk North For Term 3 Flexible and Remote Learning.

The Victorian Government has now advised that all schools will move to Remote and Flexible Learning for all of our students

from Wednesday 5th August.

The same directive as our first Flexible and Remote Learning period still applies. All students who can learn at home

must learn from home. This is a very clear directive by the Victor ian Government based on the advice of the Chief

Health Officer.

We will continue to offer limited on-site supervision for those students who need to access this, including for students on days

when they are not able to be supervised at home and no other arrangements can be made.

If students do attend school

They will complete the tasks and assignments that have placed online or in hard copy for their grade level

Given that staff will also be working from home regularly, there is no guarantee that your child will have their regular

Teaching staff or Education Support staff.

As much as possible, class sizes will no more than 1 staff member to 10 students.

Students are expected to be in school uniform and follow our school expectations and rules.

To assist us to ensure that we have adequate staffing for students to attend school, parents and career’s must fill in the attached

application form and return it to the school via e-mail by 3p.m. Thursday 6th August for the fifth week of Term 3

The application form will indicate the required days/times your child requires supervision for the following week.

The school will confirm arrangements with parents and carers by the close of business Friday 7th August.

Applications for the following weeks of Term 3 are to be e-mailed to the school by 3:00 p.m. each Thursday. Confirmation

will be made on the Friday. This arrangement is to be followed for the duration of Remote and Flexible Learning.

Please note that all requests for onsite attendance for students during this time must be e-mailed to the schools email, on eagle-

[email protected]. Class Dojo or our other means of communication are not to be used as there is no guaran-

tee that they will be received at the office by the required time.

At this stage onsite learning will take place in the John Morton Wing of the school. Parents/ Carers are not to come on site with

students. The drive through gate will be manned to welcome students at 8:30 a.m. If you require an earlier drop off time then

we would request the you make arrangements with our Before and After School Care provider Camp Australia. The normal

parent/carer drop off arrangements for Before and After School Care still apply.

Fundraising News:

First of all, we have to once again THANK our amazing school

community with the support of our current fundraising activity.

We have currently sold out of beanies and have a small number

of scarves remaining. But don’t worry we have placed

another order to our supplier. We will receive it in 4 weeks.

The first batch of orders has gone home with students.

Father’s Day Stall

Unfortunately, due to the current climate and our wonderful

parent helpers not being allowed onsite from the directions of

Department of Education, we will not be going ahead with our

stall. Instead we will have a Father’s Day Raffle.

Thank you all for supporting the Fundraising Committee and Parent’s & Friend’s.
