DESIGNED FOR:The Working Safely at Heights course is designed for students required to undertake working at heights tasks in a variety of situations, on and around various structures and in differing work environments including working near unprotected edges or slopes. The course is designed to give instruction on completing working at heights risk assessments, practical application skills and pre and post inspection techniques.

DESCRIPTION:This course gives both theory and practical instruction on Working at Heights applications. It includes risk assessment, pre and post use inspection of equipment, job step planning (JSA/SWMS) for various environments as per Australian Standards, Worksafe, OH&S and other statutory requirements, practical application of fitting a harness and attaching temporary static lines and hardware components such as karabiners and hooks.

CONTENT:Specific knowledge is required to achieve the Performance Criteria of this unit, particularly its application in a variety of circumstances in which the unit may be used.This includes knowledge of the following, as required to work safely at heights: • The names and functions of equipment, components and materials • Equipment manufacturer’s instructions and specifications • Safe shifting and handling of tools and materials • Statutory and regulatory authority requirements • The nature of work undertaken at heights • Heights safety systems • The processes of providing for safe working practices • Safety equipment/systems and considerations to facilitate working safely at heights

DURATION: 1 Day

PRE-ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:Language, Literacy and Numeracy as required to work safely at heights in the workplace and complete workplace documentation. Students must be physically capable of climbing a ladder safely maintaining three points of contact.

ASSESSMENT:Students learning outcomes will be assessed using practical activities designed to simulate the work environment and written questions as appropriate.

DELIVERY METHOD:Classroom theory via PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion. Practical components using height safety equipment in a range of work simulated scenarios.

DESIGNED FOR:The License to Perform Dogging course is designed for students required to undertake the application of slinging techniques to move a load (including the selection and pre and post inspection of lifting equipment) and/or the directing of a crane/hoist operator in the movement of a load when the load is out of the view of the crane/hoist operator.
