Orchestra Concert, May 19, 2016

The Woodrow Wilson Middle School

Orchestra had a fantastic spring concert

on May 19, 2016. The three groups of

students have been working very hard

since January, evident in their great per-

formances.

The 6th Grade Orchestra performed

four pieces of music “Dragonhunter,”

“O Mio Babbino Caro,” “Gauntlet,”

and “Storm.” Their abilities have im-

proved greatly since January.

Following the 6th Grade Orchestra was

the Chamber Orchestra, a group of

select students who meet every Monday

morning to rehearse and learn new mu-

sic. They performed two pieces

“Summer, Movement I” by Vivaldi

(violin soloist: Rachel Tam) and “Beauty

and the Beast” from the Broadway mu-

sical. These challenging pieces of music

were extremely well done.

To conclude the evening, the 7th

and 8th grade orchestra presented

six different styles and periods of

music. They performed “Sinfonia,”

“Ice Sculptures” (cello soloist: Kyle

Tu , P i an i s t s : C ind y Xu ) ,

“Flambeaux,” “Butterfly and Flow-

ers,” “Viva La Vida” and “Pioneer

Sky.” These musical pieces featured

classical, contemporary, and orien-

tal music.

Thanks to all of the hardworking

students and their parents for their

support, as well as the administra-

tion, all of the teachers who

helped, and the custodians for

making this great evening possible.

Chorus Concert, May 12, 2016

On May 12, 2016, the WWMS Choirs took the stage for

their spring concert! Four groups performed: 6th Grade

Concert Choir, Region II Intermediate Chorus, 8th Grade

Choir, and 7th and 8th Grade Concert Choir. This evening

gave our chorus students an opportunity to present what

they have been working on for the past few months.

6th Grade Choir sang four pieces: “Shake the Papaya

Down,” “Laudamus Canon,” “Sarasponda,” and “Fight

Song.” This talented group showed how far they have

come since the winter concert. Multiple songs presented

three-part harmony and “Fight Song” featured two soloists.

In January, 13 of our chorus students auditioned for and

were accepted into Region II Intermediate Chorus. For

this spring concert, our Region Chorus members hosted

members from JAMS Middle School Region Cho-

rus. This collaboration featured two songs: “The April

Rainbow” and “Zion’s Walls.”

Following, the 8th grade students performed “On Top

of the World.” This song expressed to the audience how

grateful the 8th grade students are to their friends, family

and school. It also served as a farewell piece after their

three-year commitment to chorus.

To close the evening, 7th and 8th grade choir sang five

pieces: “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel?,” “Inscription

of Hope,” “See You Again,” “Three Little Birds,” and

“Oye.” These songs featured soloists, multiple genres,

three- and four-part harmony, and a singalong! “Oye”

was particularly special because the 6th grade choir

joined in the fun!

Thank you to our administration, custodial staff, pianists,

percussionists, instrumentalists, readers, teachers, and

parents who made this concert possible!

Can you think of anything more fun than racing

around a track in a gas-powered go cart? How

about a friendly competition of laser tag? Anyone

up for an intriguing game of Wand Quest? On

Friday, May 7, 2016, the seventh grade students

eagerly boarded busses enroute to the Funplex in

East Hanover, New Jersey.

Despite being a rainy morning, students had a blast

with their friends at the indoor amusement

park. While inside, seventh graders were free to

enjoy unlimited access to rides, games, movies, and

quality time with friends. Teachers and chaperones

were delighted to see our children having fun while

developing friendships and social skills. It is of

course not to be overlooked that many teachers had

an equally great time enjoying all that Funplex had

to offer.

8th Grade Trip, May 13, 2016

Seventh grade teachers and students would also like to

thank all of the parents/guardians who volunteered to

chaperone the Funplex trip. Without your donation of

time, we would not have been able to offer students such

a wonderful experience.

The 8th grade students recently went on an action-

packed class trip to Forest Lodge in Warren, NJ. They

spent the day playing outdoor sports activities such as

volleyball, basketball, ping pong, soccer, softball and

dancing with the DJ. Many students were brave enough

to try the Bungee Run inflatable race!

The purpose of the trip is to spend time with friends in

a stress-free environment which allows for the making

of special middle school memories. The teachers also

participated and joined the playing. Ms. Kelly tested

her soccer skills, Mrs. Magliulo played basketball and

ping pong, Ms. Nilooban danced the “Cotton Eyed

Joe,” and Mr. Nasser was a fierce badminton contend-

er. Mrs. Perlin put her photography skills to use and

acted as our “roving photographer” to document the

fun.

It turned out to be a day of happy faces and tired

kids. That is a success story in our book! Click here for a slideshow.

On Friday, May 20, 2016, the Wood-

row Wilson Music Department took

the stage at High Note Music Festi-

val. All groups (band, chorus, orches-

After receiving their scores, the music

students were then able to enjoy a

beautiful day at Six Flags Great Adven-

ture! Ms. Jensen, Mr. Fossa and Mrs.

students for their hard work and all of

the chaperones that volunteered to

help on this field trip.
