Jungle Book The

18th June, 6pm - Tamworth Castle Grounds

Members of the Tamworth Pantomime Company havejoined with local group Misnomer Theatre to put on anaward-winning adaptation of The Jungle Book. Thecolourful and moving one-act play stays true to Rudyard Kipling's original story, showing the struggles faced by Bagheera the panther and Baloo the bear asthey try to return Mowgli to the "man village". They are faced with the terrifyingKaa, the enormous snake who almost eats them whole, and the ferocious ShereKhan who spends his time hunting down anything human. The Tamworth-basedcompany got through to the semi finals of the All-England Theatre Festival andwas awarded the prestigious Best Original Script.

Company manager Alex Farrell said: "This play is one of the best shows I haveever been part of. Our adaptation is more in keeping with the original RudyardKipling script and addresses some serious themes, while also harking back to thecartoon film with some subtle yet comic references. We have a very strong adultcast as well as a talented ten year old boy playing Mowgli which makes thewhole world of the jungle come to life." The Jungle Book is ideal entertainmentfor an adult audience but can also be enjoyed by families, and at just 45 minuteslong, it is definitely time well spent.
