OUR VISION
Humula Public School aims to provide a safe and varied learning environment that
creates independent, confident and resilient individuals working towards academic
success.
WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY
Once again we participated in National Walk Safely to School Day.
It was great to see all our students meeting with all staff at the
park for the trek to school. It was also great to see so many school
community members joining us for the walk. In total I believe we had 31 people
walking to school. We were then treated to a yummy breakfast of egg and bacon
rolls and either chocolate or strawberry milk, or orange juice. A big thank you
for supporting this event which is held out of hours so that our school day can
proceed as normal.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN for 2019 is done and dusted. All papers were sent off to be processed
as soon as the final testing day was completed. Our students all did their best
and we are very proud of the way they conducted themselves.
MINI ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Last Wednesday we travelled to Rosewood to participate in a mini athletics
carnival. After watching the weather forecast for the next week, I decided
that if we didn’t take advantage of the sunshine and fine weather then we may
not have the opportunity of holding any sort of athletics carnival. The results
from last Wednesday’s carnival will be used if the ALPSS athletics carnival is
washed out again tomorrow. At the time of writing this newsletter the forecast
for tomorrow is 7° and raining. We are thinking that the decision last week, even
though at short notice, was a good one.
AFRICAN DRUMMING
Last Friday Rosewood PS joined us for a session of African Drumming and Mr
Bremner thought it was a fantastic experience for his students. It made me
realise how lucky we are to be offered the program from Wagga Wagga City
Council, free of charge.
WEEK 4 HIGHLIGHTS
GRIP LEADERSHIP
Yesterday Jayden, Chloe and Izabell travelled to Charles Sturt University to
participate in a leadership day. The goal of GRIP Leadership is to provide
training to school leaders concentrating specifically on their leadership role.
Their goal is that the children will leave the conference with a clear vision, a
solid understanding and lots of ideas that they can use in their time as leaders.
It is hoped that Jayden will be able to share his leadership qualities with the
school as Student Leader in 2019 and that Chloe and Izabell will be able to
follow Jayden’s lead and carry through the role in 2020. Jayden, Chloe and
Izabell reported that they were joined by others from our ALPSS group and
they all had a very enjoyable day. A big thank you to Judy Slack-Smith for
transporting the children to Wagga so that they could participate in this event.
HIGHLANDS CROSS COUNTRY
This Friday eight students will travel to Tumbarumba to compete in the
Highlands Cross Country. Evan, Sid and Tori-Lee will be running in the 8/9 year
events running 2000m. Blake, Nathan and Makayla will be running the 2000m
event in the 10 year section. Jayden and Chloe will be competing as 11 year olds
and will have to run the 3000m course. If you are going up to watch you might
want to rug up and wear your gumboots as the forecast is 11° and overcast. Best
of luck to everyone!
NSWPSSA TOUCH FOOTBALL KNOCKOUT
We have a date! Our touch football team will be travelling to Ladysmith PS for
the first round of touch football on Thursday 20 June. Ty is back into training
with the children and team selections will take place soon.
CHAT WITH COUNCIL
I visited Wagga Wagga City’s Chat with the Council in the park to find out what
they have that can assist the community of Humula. I learnt that they have an
app on which anyone can report anything of concern to the council. So far, I
have reported the roadway on the corner of 8 Mile Road and Carabost Road,
and also the trees at the front of the school. Hopefully council will look at
these issues and respond accordingly.
P&C BLOG
Cake Stall- Our annual cake stall and wood raffle went exceptionally well. We
raised over $1800, which is more than previous years. A massive thank you to all
parent and family bakers and volunteers who gave up their time to operate the
stall. Your help and donations are always greatly appreciated.
Wood raffle winner- Congratulations to Scott McPherson who won the load of
fire wood and then donated the wood to Paul and Heather Rowe. Thank you for
your support and your generous donation.
Pie drive- As this was such a success last year, we are running another drive
again this year. There is an order attached to this newsletter.
Orders must be in with payment by Friday 28th June, delivery will be Friday 5th
June (last day of term 2). All community members are welcome to order.
We thank everyone for their ongoing support.
Thank you to all parents and families
that contributed to our annual cake
stall and wood raffle!
LOSS OF A DEAR FRIEND
Our deepest sympathy goes out to Wilga and the Harvey family on the sad loss
of Norm. All our school community will sadly miss him.
