3. Want to perform processing as close to data as possible (moving large datasets costs time)

Implementation Details: IBM Cognos Setup

Install PDA (Netezza) Drivers

Create ODBC /JDBC connections

Configure connectivity to IBM Netezza

Create Cognos data source

Create Framework Manager model / package

Create analytics content


Install PDA (Netezza) Drivers

Run: nzodbcsetup.exe

Select all defaults with the exception of the

"Bit size" to install. You want to install both 32-

bit and 64-bit drivers.

Run: nzjdbcsetup.exe

Select all defaults


Create an ODBC Connection

Open the ODBC data source Admin console

Select system DSN tab

Select ADD

Select Netezza SQL


Create a JDBC Connection

Open a command window

cd to c:\JDBC

Enter the following command

java -jar nzjdbc.jar

Select add


Configure Connectivity to IBM Netezza

Within the Netezza client install directory, locate and copy

the nzjdbc.jar (c:\jdbc).

Within the IBM Cognos 10 install directory, locate the

..\v5dataserver\lib and the ..\p2pd\web-inf\lib directory.

Copy the nzjdbc.jar file into both these directories.

In order for the Netezza driver to be picked up by IBM

Cognos 10, the IBM Cognos 10 service will need to be

stopped and started.


Define Cognos Data Source

Create a new connection in the Cognos admin portal

Select "Netezza" as the data source type from the drop down.

Configure both JDBC and ODBC tabs.
