Superhero Comic Art Workshop
Inspired by THE PHANTOM SHOW, children will create their own
comic style artwork, featuring themselves as the hero of the story.
Inspired by traditional animation techniques, children will use paint
pens and markers to illustrate their character onto layers of clear
sheets and build an interchangeable work of art.
When: 10.30am, 12pm and 2pm Mon 10, Tue 11, Wed 12, Thu 13 & Fri 14 July
Cost: $10. Suitable for ages 5-12. Booking essential.
Torchlight Tour Superheroes Unite Dress up as your favourite superhero and come along to the
Gallery for a guided tour around the exhibitions by torchlight.
Grab a hot chocolate and make your own work of art inspired by
THE PHANTOM SHOW. This family friendly event includes all art
materials and snacks, contact us now to book your place as this
popular event fills up fast.
Don’t forget to bring your torches!

Science Comes Alive!
Have some School Holiday fun for all the family with free Science Shows exploring the world around us.
We will excite you with explosions, make you curious about the workings of all things great and small, and take you into the fascinating world of chemicals. We will dive into science boots and all, with lots of laughter, fun and excitement!
When: 11.15am, 12.15pm and 1.15pm Tuesday 4 and 11 July Thursday 6 and 13 July

Abstract Stamp Designs Art WorkshopWorking with a range of art materials, including wooden blocks and
cardboard, children will create interesting printing stamps. They will
then create a vibrant and colourful masterpiece.
Taking inspiration from The National Gallery of Australia Exhibition
Abstraction: celebrating Australian abstract women artists. This
is a fun way to learn about colour design and non-traditional
printmaking techniques.

Supernova Hands-on Science Centre
Can you lift a car? Is it easier if you move towards the end of the lever? The Supernova hands-on science centre is not only fun, it’s good for you!
Wander under the five metre internally lit world globe then make your own tornado, play in a magnetic field or discover just how repulsive our magnets can be. Supernova is the touch, feel, think and wonder part of the Museum. Try it out, investigate and discover… Oh, and you might learn some science too!
Fire and Earth Gallery
Put on your hard hat and experience the heat, danger and hard work of coal mining and BHP steel production! Discover the history of coal mining in the Newcastle region and awe inspiring machines that tunnelled through the dark. Join Big Harry for the BHP Sound and Light Show, our dramatic audio visual presentation that interprets the excitement, colour, drama and noise of the steel making process at the former BHP Newcastle steel works.
When: Every hour on the hour during Museum opening hours.

1. EXPLORE BATHERS WAY Grab your bike, scooter or skateboard and explore the Bathers
Way. Stop for morning tea or lunch, check out the views from
the Newcastle Memorial Walk or venture out to the end of
Nobbys Breakwall to watch the ships.
2. TOUR FORT SCRATCHLEY Take a tunnel tour at Fort Scratchley and soak up some local
history. Guided tours are led by our passionate Fort Scratchley
Historical Society volunteers with a wealth of knowledge about
the site.
3. VISIT THE ANIMALS AT BLACKBUTT RESERVE
Visit the animals at Blackbutt Reserve! Enjoy the opportunity
to get up close and personal at the Reptile Show and check
the feeding schedule to watch our wombats, koalas and more
munch their favourite treats.
4. ORGANISE A WHALEWATCHING EXPEDITIONNewcastle is home to some world-class lookouts for whale
spotting, from Nobbys headland to King Edward Park and
Strzelecki Lookout. BYO binoculars and hot chocolate!
5. GET ON YOUR BIKESHead to the Tramway Track, a 3.65km shared pathway from
Wallsend to Glendale. Or cycle breakwall to breakwall, hopping
the ferry from Queens Wharf to Stockton.
