Ilios High Efficiency Water Heater

> Technology

─ A high efficiency water heater for commercial locations with a gas demand of 4,000 therms/month or more. With a COP of 1.2 to 1.8 and a hot water delivery temperature of 100°F to 160°F this product yields sizable natural gas and operation savings.

> Savings Potential─ 2 to 4 year payback period, depending on

ambient temperature, run time and temp, fuel price, and federal/local incentives .

> ETP Review─ The primary barrier to widespread adoption of

the Ilios product in ideal applications is the high first cost.

─ Recent low natural gas prices have extended the period for return on investment.

─ Maintenance is required every 10,000 to 20,000 runtime hours. Maintenance costs are higher than equivalent electric heat pump products.

Cogenra Solar Combined Heat and Power

>Technology─ Solar cogeneration of electricity and hot

water maximizes the value of energy generated from the sun by producing electricity with standard photovoltaic (PV) technology, and capturing excess heat as hot water up to 100°C

─ The system can offset additional electricity on demand by paring stored hot water with thermally-driven chillers or organic rankine cycle turbines (ORCs)

─ The process of transferring away the heat simultaneously cools the cells, enhancing the collectors’ total efficiency up to 80%.

> Cost / Benefits─ Solar cogeneration 50% more net energy

value compared with photovoltaic per dollar of total installed costs
