What rules, tablets or laptops? Tablets are the “in-thing” these days. My wife just received a Nexus 7 running Android version 4.2.1 and after toying with it a bit, it got me thinking if the tablet will overtake the laptop. Hardly a day goes by when one of the players isn’t announcing something new, Apple announcing January 30 th that another new model will be pranced out next week with 128Gb of storage and a 9.7” screen With this kind of storage, with no hard drive, can the tablets take over? Tablets rule: Max portability: Even the biggest tablets are thinner and weigh less than the smallest laptops. Comfort: Slim, trim and cool running. Awesome touchscreen: There is something about playing games on a touchscreen that can never be duplicated in a web browser. Connectivity: Tablets are 3G and 4G compatible, you can make your Facebook updates even if you’re not in a Wi-Fi hotspot. Battery life: 10 hours on a single charge for a tablet vs. 4 to 5 hours for a laptop. Laptops rule: Screen size: Even the smallest laptops have bigger screens than the largest tablet. More productive: For knocking out e-mails and documents, nothing beats a real keyboard. Virtual keyboards eat half the screen and they slow you down. Extra goodies: Laptops have lots of ports for accessories and hundreds of programs which are available on-line. Tablets really didn’t get out of the gate until 2010 and there is not much available. So, although times are changing, and they are changing fast, the only people who could make the switch now are those who do nothing but surf the web and watch NetFlix all day. If you really work for a living, then the laptop still reigns as king. But, as the new iPad demonstrates the line between tablets and laptops is getting thinner by the day, so stay tuned.

What rules, tablets or laptops?

Tablets are the “in-thing” these days. My wife just

received a Nexus 7 running Android version 4.2.1 and

after toying with it a bit, it got me thinking if the tablet

will overtake the laptop. Hardly a day goes by when

one of the players isn’t announcing something new,

Apple announcing January 30th

that another new

model will be pranced out next week with 128Gb of

storage and a 9.7” screen With this kind of storage,

with no hard drive, can the tablets take over?

Tablets rule:

Max portability: Even the biggest tablets are thinner and weigh less than the smallest

laptops.

Comfort: Slim, trim and cool running.

Awesome touchscreen: There is something about playing games on a touchscreen that

can never be duplicated in a web browser.

Connectivity: Tablets are 3G and 4G compatible, you can make your Facebook updates

even if you’re not in a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Battery life: 10 hours on a single charge for a tablet vs. 4 to 5 hours for a laptop.

Laptops rule:

Screen size: Even the smallest laptops have bigger screens than the largest tablet.

More productive: For knocking out e-mails and documents, nothing beats a real

keyboard. Virtual keyboards eat half the screen and they slow you down.

Extra goodies: Laptops have lots of ports for accessories and hundreds of programs

which are available on-line. Tablets really didn’t get out of the gate until 2010 and there

is not much available.

So, although times are changing, and they are changing fast, the only people who could make the

switch now are those who do nothing but surf the web and watch NetFlix all day. If you really

work for a living, then the laptop still reigns as king. But, as the new iPad demonstrates the line

between tablets and laptops is getting thinner by the day, so stay tuned.
