The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the new government system of providing supports to Australians with disability, their families and carers.
In the past, the Government gave money to organisations like the WA Deaf Society and other support agencies to provide services.
Now the Government gives the money straight to people who are eligible under the NDIS for supports that are “reasonable and necessary”...
...so you can choose and
control the services that best match your life, plans and goals.
WHAT IS THE NDIS?WA DEAF SOCIETY, MARCH 2018
WHATis the
NDIA?
NDIA is the National Disability Insurance Agency; NDIA is the part of the Government that is responsible for the NDIS roll out and process.
What do ‘reasonable’
and ‘necessary’
mean?
REASONABLE means something fair and NECESSARY means something you must have. The NDIS funds reasonable and necessary supports relating to a person’s disability to help them live a good life and achieve their goals.

TRANSFER FROM WA NDIS TO NDISPeople already accessing the WANDIS will transfer over to the nationally delivered Scheme (NDIS) from April 2018. The transfer of people from the WANDIS over to NDIS will finish by December 2018.If you are transferring from the old WANDIS to the nationally delivered scheme, you will be contacted by the Western Australian Government. The WA Government will advise you of the next steps you need to take. Not everyone will be transferred from WANDIS to the NDIS at the same time; the transfers will be gradual and happen from April 2018 to December 2018.
TRANSFER FROM DISABILITY SERVICESIf you are not yet accessing the NDIS and are currently receiving disability services support from the WA Government or other Commonwealth programs, you will transition to the NDIS at different times. When you transition depends on where you live and the type of support you are receiving. The NDIA will contact people currently receiving disability services when it is your time to transition. All people currently receiving
disability support from the WA Government will transition to the NDIS by July
2020.
