DOWITES’78 Operation theatre complex
WORKING TO SAVE HUMANITY
INTRODUCTION & PURPOSE
Working in a health care facility of a public sector hospital brings you closer to the real world of poverty and its reflection. Health care is a fundamental right of every Pakistani. However, due to lack of finances, corruption and lack of will on part of providers it remains a grossly neglected aspect of the society. We as Dow Graduates have taken upon ourselves to “make a difference”. The batch of 78 called Dowites78 had set out to construct and operate a complete State-of-the-Art Operation Theatre Complex project at a cost of more than Rs.220 million approx. The government in the spirit of private public partnership has supported all such projects and even after completion permits each batch a role in the management of its project.
We are a non-profit organization established by 1978 graduates of the Dow Medical College providing free surgeries to people in Karachi. We do it without compromising our patient's dignity.
Never doubt! That a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the
world, Indeed it is the only thing that ever has !!
MISSION
OBJECTIVESTo promote and extend the operation theatre complex by
improving the existing facilities. To modernize and up-grade the surgical methods and facilities
in line- with international standards and designs for general welfare and benefits of public at large.

DEPARTMENTS
Security and Monitoring Department:OT Complex is covered by thirty one CCTV cameras. The vigilant
management of the OT Complex will keep an eye on every nook and corner of the facility.
ROBOTIC LABRobotic surgery, or robot-assisted surgery, allows doctors to
perform many types of complex procedures with more precision, flexibility and control than is possible with
conventional techniques. The surgery is usually associated with minimally invasive surgery — procedures performed through
tiny incisions. The surgeon sits at a computer station and directs the movements of a robot. Small surgical tools are attached to
the robot's arms.DOTS OT Complex has a state of the art Robotic Lab where
these surgeries are performed under the supervision of trained surgeons and paramedical staff.
TEACHING & TRAINING FACILITIESRegular updating of knowledge is an important aspect in the present era0
of rapid advancements. We must keep ourselves in the main the stream if we want to survive professionally.
All operating rooms have an arrangement to record the surgical procedure and simultaneously to display it in the auditorium of the complex. This facility is utilized for teaching and training of medical students, postgraduates and paramedics. Surgical video conferences are arranged regularly in collaboration with surgical associations. Continuous training and building skills of paramedics working in OTs, has also been arranged.
FUTURE PERSPECTIVESOur vision is to connect OT Complex with the rest of the medical world using high speed fiber optics or even with
wireless connectivity via satellite. Time and distance should not be constraints in acquiring knowledge for those working in
the OT Complex. Telemedicine, with clinician sitting miles away from the patient can see the patient and guide further management. Today's vision is tomorrow's reality. We have
setup an ideal platform for much future advancement. It is for the new generation to take over and go ahead or let it drain.
