• Our Challenges:– Deprivation – 3rd– Separated/divorced – 8th

– Lone parents – 1st

– Unemployed – 3rd

– Never worked – 1st (7%)– Council Housing – 1st (32%)– 1/4 of adults have recognised literacy & numeracy

issues– 54/1000 statement/EHCP in September 2015 – 52%

of all young people in Harlow.– 56% white British males

• Ofsted gave us a ‘good’ for teaching:

– 91% of lessons were ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’

– 34% ‘outstanding’

– 9% were ‘RI’ all from teachers highlighted as still developing their practice

Archilochus - “The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing.”

A hedgehog concept is not a goal to be the best, a strategy to be the best or an intention to be the best. It is an understanding of what you can be the best at for the marketplace you are in.

The distinction is absolutely crucial!
