CREATING YOUR OWN PODCAST SHOW STRATEGY
FOR BLOGGERS
Things you need to consider for your Podcast Show Strategy
Plan:
• What format will your show be (eg, Interviews, How To Tutorials, Discussions etc)?
• Are you creating an audio or video podcasts?• Do some podcast show format ideas and
inspiration research• What will you call your show and why?• How long will your shows go for?• Will there be a music intro and/or end?• Do you want to script your show, or be informal?
• What is your END GOAL of your podcasting?• Think about your “call to actions” for your
podcast shows• Think of ways to drive people to your blog
from your podcast shows• Encourage listeners to subscribe to your
podcast• Do you have old videos you could upload to
your podcast show?
Things you need to consider for your Podcast Show Strategy Plan:
• Have you thought about sponsors?• Think about how you will promote your
podcast when it is live• Will you just list it on iTunes, or other
directory sites as well (Podcast Alley, Blurbrry etc)
• Do you know any other bloggers who would promote your podcast show from their blog?
• Make sure you have plenty of analytics set up to gauge your podcasting ROI

Interview Tips1. Get your equipment right, and do a dry run with a
friend first2. Let the person you are interviewing do the talking 3. Be interested in who you are interviewing4. Learn how to interview all types of personalities5. Be your audience when asking questions6. Focus on tangibles whenever possible7. Watch the clock (45-60min is good) but you can

Your podcast show format
Do you want to create an audio or video podcast show?
Audio is quick - cheap – easy(great for beginners)
Video may be necessary but you may limit who will subscribe to it
You can do both if you like, depending on your strategy plan
Ask yourself, what would your audience want and expect?
Your Podcast Show NameCan it just be your blog name with
“podcast” on the end?
But if it’s newKeyword rich (Google’s Keyword Tool)https://adwords.google.com/o/KeywordTool
Descriptive – it should say something appealing (relevant)Unique – make sure no one has that name
Short & punchy!
Think of a tagline that defines it more.
Check if the domain URL is available to buy because you could buy it.
How long should my shows go for?
There is no right or wrong Look at what others do in similar podcasts and decide if you can improve on that format length Experiment, be flexible Think like your audience The longer your shows are, the more cost to host the media file
Show length guide only
Interviews (30-60mins) How To’s (25-45mins) or as long as it takes – if it’s too long, do more than one show Talk back (entertainment) (30-45mins) Discussions (including solo) (25-35mins)
Got a long show???
Consider:- Part one and Part two - Publish Part one on iTunes, and give away
Part two on your blog (for traffic)- Do a ten part show series- See if other podcasters are willing to be
part of your podcast show program
Podcast Show (music) intro?
PROS- More professional feel to your podcast
show- Brands you a bit more- Has a “feel good” tone
CONS- Takes your time to create- Some people may not like it

For marketing substance, You should have an END GOAL
What is an END GOAL?
• Something you want to achieve from your podcasting efforts (and maybe your blogging)
• Always provide interest in your END GOAL
• Your END GOAL does not have to be money, but it should be something that can lead to an income stream later
Podcast Show “call to actions”
- Ask a question for our next show to answer- Share (social media) the link to this podcast (from
our blog or Facebook/Twitter etc)- Run a competition relevant to the next show topic- Special price for a product promotion (or sponsor
special event)- Giveaways
Make sure your podcast shows inspire people to visit your blog and/or subscribe
to your podcast
• Offer special downloads (eg a chapter of a book you are discussing)
• Limited time “awesome value” offers• To collect discount coupons• To see relevant “how to” videos• Free transcripts of the podcast show• Ask for feedback/comments
Podcasting Basic Goals
• A good sized relevant target demographic SUBSCRIBERS and downloads• And the podcast reviews – ASK listeners
to review it (like your Amazon reviews)
• iTunes subscriptions (you can become an Apple Affiliate)
• RSS subscribers (from your blog)• Set up Feedburner (you can access their emails)• Email list on your blog
Do you have any old audio or video files you could publish on your podcast for people to
access right away?
Do you have any potential sponsors you could approach about
sponsoring your podcast show?
Once you have your podcast show published on your host site, and you’ve uploaded it
to iTunes and other directories
(if you are wanting to), then you need to
promote your podcast…
Trust & Desire = Sales
