Praying For And Voting For Our Government

Have you been praying about voting your values?


As believers our biblically informed worldview should impact every area of our lives. Among the many things that should be influenced is how and for what reasons we cast our ballots. Yet as Christians, our ultimate allegiance is to Jesus Christ alone, not to any political party or philosophy or special interest. Christians should vote their values, convictions and beliefs as guided by Holy Scripture and the Holy Spirit.


2 Chronicles 7:14(KJV) If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.


Pray for repentance for yourself and for our nation.

Acts 17:30(KJV) And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:


Pray that our nation will listen to the truth and not be led astray.

Proverbs 16:13(NKJV) Righteous lips are the delight of kings, And they love him who speaks what is right.


Pray that God's man and our nation will be discerning and do what is right.

Luke 12:54-57(NKJV) 54Then He also said to the multitudes, "Whenever you see a cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say, 'A shower is coming'; and so it is. 55And when you see the south wind blow, you say, 'There will be hot weather'; and there is. 56Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time? 57"Yes, and why, even of yourselves, do you not judge what is right?


Pray that God's man will listen with discernment, add to his knowledge, and receive wise counsel to govern.

Proverbs 1:5-6(NKJV) 5 A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, 6 To understand a proverb and an enigma, The words of the wise and their riddles.


For New Beginnings:

Pray that the Lord would do something that would utterly amaze us and give us (New Beginnings) a great work for the Lord.

Habakkuk 1:5(NKJV) "Look among the nations and watch- Be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days Which you would not believe, though it were told you. Habakkuk 3:2(NKJV) O Lord, I have heard Your speech and was afraid; O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; In wrath remember mercy.


Living in and being an important and godly part of society

Matthew 5:13-16(NKJV) 13“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. 14“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.



Christians should vote because Jesus guides us in the Bible to be a part of the process, not apart from it.



Christians should vote because our liberties were secured by the blood of our forbearers in faith early in our nation's history and have been preserved by the vigilance of brave men and women who time and time again have defended our freedoms.



Christians should vote because Jesus urged His followers to give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar's (Luke 20:19-26).



Christians should vote because Scripture compels us to voice our biblically derived convictions at the ballot box, as well as through the mailbox and atop the soapbox.

1 Peter 2:15(NKJV) 15For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men—



Christians should vote because the innocent, the indigent, and the unborn need a defender.

Micah 6:8(NKJV) 8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?



Christians should vote because as we exercise our civic right we have the opportunity to advocate policy positions that signal our faith in the providential care of God.



Christians should vote because as we involve ourselves in the electoral and public policy process, we pray for our leaders.

1 Timothy 2:1-2(NKJV) 1Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.


Living in and changing lives in our society



We need to pray for souls to be won for Christ




We need to win souls to Christ





We must teach Christ's principles to them






We must example the life-changing example of Christ







We must continue to pray for them







We must continue to pray for them

We must walk side by side with them in the Lord


Looking at and looking for godly candidates



Character: "When the righteous flourish, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, people groan" (Proverbs 29:2). We must elect righteous leaders and take their private conduct seriously.



Conviction: "The wicked flee when no one is pursuing [them], but the righteous are as bold as a lion" (Proverbs 28:1). We must elect a leader who has conviction according to the absolute truth found in God's Word.



Courage: "The integrity of the upright guides them, but the perversity of the treacherous destroys them" (Proverbs 11:3). Courage is behavior, according to Young. We must choose a candidate who knows what is right and isn't afraid to speak truth into our culture and world.



Compassion: "Speak up for those who have no voice, for the justice of all who are dispossessed. Speak up, judge righteously, and defend the cause of the oppressed and needy" (Proverbs 31:8-9). We must choose a candidate who is a rescuer and defender of those both unborn and alive.



Constituency: Young says to look and see who is supporting and opposing each candidate. Then ask yourself, "What do these people stand for? What kind of values do they hold?”

2 Timothy 4:3-4(NKJV) 3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.



"I can meet your friends, without even meeting you, and tell you what kind of a person you are," Young said. "Who applauds this potential candidate and who opposes them? We better wake up and smell the coffee, here, friends. If the mainstream secular media supports a candidate or an issue, there is a great chance that something is sideways, [and] you better look at that one very, very closely. Who opposes them? Who is for them?"


Looking at issues that should touch our lives as believers

Same-sex marriages

Satan is attacking the home, our children, our society and we need to stand against his twisting and attacks against marriage

"For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother," and the two, man and woman, "shall become one flesh" (Matthew 19:5, Mark 10:7).



Abortion of infants

God made life

Acts 17:25(NKJV) 25Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.

Hebrews 12:9(NKJV) 9Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?

Seek God For Your Government

1 Timothy 2:1-4(KJV) 1I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Stand Up To Your Government (when it is Biblically wrong)

Persuade the government they are wrong as God’s Word teaches

George Washington reportedly said "Government... is a troublesome servant and a fearful Master."
