Negotiating Drug Prices Will Make Affordable Health Care More Affordable

Congress is preventing Medi-care from performing one of the basic elements of cost sav-ings. An element that is crit-ical to the profit line and in some cases critical to the sur-vival of a business. Negotiat-

ing based on all of Medicare’s clients creates a lower cost per unit than if each individual in-surer negotiates its own price. Bulk negotiation and purchas-ing is the answer! Bulk pur-chasing via direct negotiations

with drug manufacturers by Medicare could save billions of dollars. The 2003 overhaul of Medi-care included a concession to the pharmaceutical industry that prevents Medicare from

negotiating drug prices di-rectly with the manufactur-ers… Instead, the individual insurers pay for drugs based on their individual fragmented negotiations, a process which guarantees higher prices.

The drug prices for the Vet-erans Health Administration and Medicaid, which are ne-gotiated by the federal gov-ernment, are much lower than those paid by Medicare.

A recent study by Carl-ton University and Pub-lic Citizen, an advocacy group, found the negoti-ated prices are generally 1/3 less than those paid by Medicare. Medicare pays the highest prices on the planet, for drugs manufactured in the USA. The same drugs are exported around the world and delivered for prices that are more of-ten than not, one-tenth of prices in the USA. The same study estimates that negotiating Medi-

care’s cost could save 16 billion dollars per year. Supply/Invest in low or no-cost education for students who contract to repay with a commit-

Obituary:Pastor Vernon George Shaw

Pastor Vernon George Shaw was born on No-vember 18, 1952 to George and Emma Shaw in San Bernardino, CA and attended San Ber-nardino High School and Dothan High School in Dothan, Alabama. He took Paralegal courses at Santa Monica City Col-lege. The Lord spoke to him on June 22, 1978 and He said “You are a cho-sen vessel, I have come in honor of your mothers prayers” and he accept-ed his calling. He was mentored by Superinten-dent Herbert C. Pugh at New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ. Vernon Shaw dedicated his life to the ministry and was ordained by the Church of God in Christ in 1994. Vernon G Shaw mar-ried Darlene Sanders on July 3, 1994. He be-gan his Pastoral ministry

and founded the Prayer Mission C.O.G.I.C. where he and his wife served faithfully for 17 years. Pastor Shaw of-ficiated many weddings and funerals. He oper-ated in his gifts of evan-gelism and community outreach. Pastor Shaw had a passion for feed-ing the poor and hungry at church and parks. He never got tired of help-ing others. He was a stu-dent of the Word of God and he loved to quote scripture and teach his family, his children, and grandchildren about Christ and the Bible. Through his leadership Pastor Shaw led many family members to ac-cept Christ as their Lord and Savior. Vernon had a conta-gious laugh, joy of sing-ing, and sense of humor. Anyone who knew him has unique experiences

to share of how Vernon impacted their lives. He was a natural comedian, lifting up everyone he came in contact with. He was a remarkable trail-blazer, an entrepreneur, and a genuine ‘people person’. To many he was a mentor, a confidante and a handy handyman. Pastor Shaw was pre-ceded in death by his fa-ther, George Bernard Shaw, Laretha John-son (sister), Cleveland Shaw and Johnny Shaw (brothers) and Rob-ert Maurice Johnson IV (his beloved nephew). He leaves to cherish his beautiful life, his wife, Pastor Darlene Sanders-Shaw whom he shared 22 years of marriage un-til his death; his Moth-er Emma Shaw who is 103 years old; his broth-ers Wiley Shaw (Alex-is), Donell Shaw, and Ronell Shaw (Sherrie); his sisters Joyce Smith, Mary Roberts (Charles), Barbara McDowell, and Valerie Richardson. Pas-tor Shaw leaves to carry on his legacy five sons: Kirk Underwood, Don-te Houston, Joe Sanders (Melissa), Jason Sand-ers, and Brian McAllis-ter, 23 grandchildren, 2 great grands and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Honor and Appreciation Ceremony Sparks Inspiration Among Attendees On February 18, 2016 the San Bernardino Re-publican Women Feder-ated presented an eve-ning of Honor and Ap-preciation for San Ber-nardino Chief of Police Jarrod Burguan, County of San Bernardino Sher-iff John McMahon and Assistant Director of the FBI David Bowdich. This occasion was to honor these three men for their stellar service during the December 2, 2015 act of terrorism here in San Bernardino. Even though the evening was to honor these three men, they used much of their talk time to hon-

or and praise everyone else and minimizing the attention being given to themselves. Assistant Director Da-vid Bowdich used much of his speech time giv-ing credit to a little girl who wrote a very unusu-ally formal letter which thanked him for being so calm, cool, collect-ed, and effective on the day of the incident. The little girl expressed that Mr. Bowdich’s demean-or while speaking on the news was so profound as to bring a bit of calm to the calamity. San Ber-nardino Sheriff John McMahon used much

The beneficiary under said Deed of Trust heretofore executed and delivered to the undersigned a written Declara-tion of Default and Demand for Sale, and a written Notice of Default and Election to Sell. The undersigned caused said Notice of Default and Election to Sell to be recorded in the county where the real property is located. NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BID-DERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bid-ding at a trustee auction. You

will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the high-est bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstand-ing liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROP-ERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made avail-able to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (844) 477-7869 or visit this Internet Web site WWW.STOXPOSTING.COM, using the file number assigned to this case 033201-CA. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the sched-uled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. and medical personnel due credit for their im-portant role in the man-agement of the crises. Either these men made a mistake in thinking this night was for everyone except them or, in the alternative, maybe their innate selflessness is one

of their many good char-acteristics which high-lighted their compe-tence and dedication to the community to which they serve. Of these two possibilities I believe the latter option rings truer than the former. Also present was Sen-

ator Mike Morrell, San Bernardino County As-sessor Bob Dutton, San Bernardino Major Car-ey Davis and newly ap-pointed Police Commis-sioner Damon Alexan-der. It was a truly inspi-rational evening.

il rights group. He was interviewed by NAM’s George White. From 2008 to 2012, you served as president of the NAACP, an or-ganization that does not endorse political candi-dates. As a public figure, you’re now free to make an endorsement. Why are you endorsing Sena-tor Sanders? My generation was the first targeted in an era of mass incarceration that accelerated as a re-sult of laws enacted in

the 1990s. Our nation-al priorities should in-clude an effort to move us away from a society of mass incarceration to a country that provides better education and an economy that produces good-paying jobs. Sen-ator Sanders is pushing for that shift. Regarding my crite-ria, I look at the litmus tests that Dr. Martin Lu-ther King, Jr., provid-ed. He said the first test of genuine leadership is whether the candidate

is a follower of consen-sus or a molder of con-sensus. Senator Sand-ers is a molder. The oth-er consideration is the candidate’s stand on is-sues related to what Dr. King called the giant triplets – racism, milita-rism and greed. Bernie has been the most con-sistent opponent of the policies and politics that promote those anti-pro-gressive attitudes. (To read more visit www.wssnews.com)
