    Despite the last minute change of location and many shifts in preparation, theFallfest Sock Hop had a blow-out attendance. The June 26 th event, held at theVFW was sponsored by WTTR and drew people from Baltimore and as far awayas Homestead, FL.A huge thank you must go the Fallfest staff and volunteers, the VFW and ourpartner, WTTR for all their hard work to make this evening such a success.This was proof that we all enjoy reminiscing the good ole days and enjoyingfriendships. The poodle skirts, scarves and saddle oxford shoes were atestament to that. The four non-profit organizations selected to benefit from this

    years Fallfest were represented, along with their invited guests. They are AccessCarroll, Carroll County Youth Services Bureau, the Taneytown Lions Club andthe Westminster Lions Club.Look forward to the next major event to benefit Fallfest to be held at Buds atSilver Run August 16.

    A special thank you to Lori Graham, Jalna Brown and the VFW

    for finding a new location for the dance!

    Fallfest Gets New Headquarters:The David S. Babylon Building wasmade possible by the kindness andgenerosity of the Babylon Family,Program Open Space, the City ofWestminster and WestminsterFallfest Inc. The Ribbon cutting andGrand Opening ceremony, held on5/20/10, included many localdignitaries, including Mayor Kevin

    Utz along with Mrs. Evelyn Babylonand other members of the Babylonfamily. The new community buildingwill serve Westminster Optimist, Westminster Fallfest Inc., and many other non-profit organizations throughout the year. The building was open for the public totour following the ribbon cutting.Fallfest previous office space was a dilapidated trailer that was falling apart andthe Optimist could no longer operate a concession stand under Health Dept.standards using the old structure. Staff and volunteers are looking forward tousing this wonderful new facility to its fullest extent at this years Fallfest.

    Board Member SpotlightTom Canon has been a member of the Board of Directors ofWestminster Fallfest and is the proud owner of the Fallfest-mobilethat you may have seen around Westminster. For 2010, he is theChairperson of the Fallfest event at Buds of Silver Run, and is the

    Non-food Vendor Coordinator for this years SeptemberFestival.Tom and his wife Corina, are the proud parents of 6 kids,and reside in the Snydersburg area. Tom is employed byHuman Services Programs of Carroll County, Inc. and isalso the president of the Carroll Technology Council,Secretary of Sylvias Acorn, and sits on the advisory boardof the Community Services Council.Thanks to Tom for all his hard work and volunteer hoursbenefiting Fallfest.Tom can be contacted at [email protected]

    Employee of the Year Award

    Jennifer Mellor received the Employee ofthe Year award on June 28th at theMaryland Municipal Leagues annualconference in Ocean City Maryland.Jennifer was nominated by Marge Wolf,

    City Administrator, for her dedication and commitment to the citizens ofWestminster as the Program Director in the Recreation and Parks Department.According to Ms Wolf, You only have to work with Jennifer 10 minutes to knowshes an exceptional employee and well deserving of this award.Among her many achievements, she made this past Holiday parade and treelighting very special by reviving Santas Treat, an event that was cancelled in

    1999. During this past winters snow, she helped shovel snow for six hours withthe Public Works Dept. She has effectively developed the springtime Flower andJazz Festival into a 150 vendor, day long entertainment party in the Main Streetbusiness area covering two blocks. She has served as Event Chair,Entertainment Coordinator and Parade Chair for the Westminster Fallfest raisingover $35,000 to donate to charity. As she will tell you, I love this job.Congratulations Jennifer!
