We are also asking for donations of Gummi Bears and Freckles for the ice-cream stand. Thank you for the donations that have already been generously provided. Keep our School Fair date free: Friday 15 September from 11am to 2pm. We are asking for donations for the Second Hand Stall but we are unable to take any electrical goods. Please store any second hand goods at home at this stage due to lack of storage space at school. We will be asking that they be brought in on a particular day in the week of the Fair. A reminder to all parents that high school students are not to attend the Westlawn School Fair as it is a normal school day and high school students are expected to attend their own school. According to the NSW Department of Education Attendance Policy, we need to ask high school students to return to their school, and we must inform the high school Principals of students who are on our school site during school hours. Kinder Enrolments for 2018 If your child is enrolling in Kindergarten at Westlawn PS in 2018 please leave details of name, address and birth date at the office. We will be sending out information to families, so need names and addresses now please. Woolworths Earn and Learn If you shop at Woolworths, please collect the Earn and Learn stickers. In the school foyer, near the school office there is a collection box for stickers or sheets of stickers. We also have a box located at Woolworths in Shoppingworld with our school name and logo where you can also place the stickers. Thank you for supporting our school with this program. The Earn and Learn promotion runs from Thurs 26th July until Tuesday 19th September. Children Arriving at School A reminder to parents that there is no supervision for students who are on the school site before 8:25am. Children should arrive between 8:25 and 8:50am. If you need to drop your child off before 8:25am, please make use of the OoSH facilities across the road which provides before and after school care, or make other private arrangements. There is one bus which gets the children to school too early and requests have been made to the bus company for this to be amended, thus far unsuccessful. We understand that parents are unable to avoid this. International Competitions The results from the following International Competitions have been received by the school. Congratulations to our students who did so well in the following competitions. International Spelling Competition: Distinction – Eliza Berrick (Y4), Credit – Oneil Brown (Y4), Jason Parkes (Y4), Ava Byrnes (Y5), Luka Cheetham Y5), Breanna Hunter (Y5), Destiny Waldron (Y5), Zoe Busch (Y6) Merit – Kate Raven (Y3). The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online, just like the survey completed in Term 1, and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. A consent form was sent home with students last week. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by 1 September 2017. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.

Tell Them From Me Partners in Learning Survey We are also inviting parents and carers to participate in the Tell Them From Me Partners in Learning survey. This survey complements the TTFM student and teacher surveys, which focus on student engagement, well-being and effective teaching practices. Parents and carers are an important and valued part of our school community. We will be able to use the survey feedback to make practical improvements and assist us in guiding our school targets and overall direction. This survey is an online survey that takes about 15 minutes to complete. It is completely anonymous, confidential and voluntary. You will be able to access the survey in your own time, between 31 August and 13 October 2017, on your computer, tablet or smartphone by following this link: https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/westlawn Trish Ellis Relieving Principal Diary Dates TERM 3 Week 7 Mon 28 Aug Book Fair begins Wed 30 Aug Fathers Visit and Book Fair Thurs 31 Aug Fathers Day Stall

SRC Citizenship Award The SRC present a weekly Citizenship Award, at our Friday assembly.

Each week we meet to discuss what encouraging things we have seen

happening in our playground and classrooms. The SRC look for

behaviours that are helpful, demonstrate our school rules or an act that

shows a student as a positive role model for others. We then nominate

children we have seen displaying these behaviours. This week the SRC

have been focussing on finding children who display sportsmanship.

We have voted. The award winner was seen and heard during the last

week encouraging others, playing fairly and congratulating everyone

on their achievements. The Citizenship Award winner is Daniel

Lavender in 6P. Congratulations Daniel!

Throughout the next several weeks the SRC are looking for students demonstrating excellent

sportsmanship.

SRC Handball Competition 2017

The SRC are going to run the Westlawn Primary School Handball competition again this year. This is a

very exciting and popular event! Starting Monday we will be taking entries for this year’s competition. If

you are interested in playing you will need to visit our organising SRC members in the primary playground

after eating time, next week. It will cost 50 cents for you to enter. Children in grades 3-6 are able to

compete. Play offs will begin in week 8. Good luck to all of you who enter! We hope you have lots of fun!

See you, next week, at the sign up table.
