Swimming - an essential part of the Western Australian way of life

A team of up to eight (8) able bodied Athletes will be selected to attend a Training Camp led by WA State Head Coach Leigh Nugent and held in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 8-13 October 2019. Accommodation will be at The Pearl Kuala Lumpur.

Training will be held at the D Swim Academy(DSA) Bukit Jalil.

Objectives of the Programme • Represent Western Australia • To expose WA’s talented, developing swimmers in the target age range, to the experience of

travelling internationally and preparing in a foreign environment, which mirrors the routines of Australian Swimming Team’s performing internationally. It is a unique opportunity to gain a preview and develop the skills for of what lays ahead as swimmer’s progress through their career.

• To benefit from the experience of self-management and exposure to the competitive training (in the camp environment) for a week under the guidance of one of Australia’s most experienced national coaches.

Athlete Programme Benefits

• Partially funded position to attend the Western Australian 2019 Malaysian Training Camp ($850 approx athlete contribution)

• Opportunity to represent WA as part of a small State representative team • International training opportunity • Dual Meet competition against Malaysian team

Athlete Selection Criteria & Process Selection is based on performances at the 2019 Hancock Prospecting Australian Age Swimming Championships. Selection is at the discretion of the Selection Panel consisting of the State Head Coach and Swimming WA Management. Accommodation and Meals will be covered by Swimming WA. Swimmers are to provide their own incidentals, personal expenses and snacks.

Camp Western Australian 2019 Malaysian Training Camp Tuesday 8 October – Sunday 13 October 2019

Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Athlete Eligibility

To be considered for selection, a swimmer must be: a) Be a current registered member of Swimming WA; b) Be an Australian Citizen; c) Payment of approx. $850 athlete contribution to Swimming WA by Friday 30

August 2019. This payment is to cover the cost of the return flight to Malaysia; cost may vary depending on final quote. Accommodation and Meals will be covered by Swimming WA.

Selection Criteria

To be selected, a swimmer must be; a) An individual medallist at the Hancock Prospecting Australian Age Swimming

Championships; b) Aged 15 – 16 (girls) 15 – 17 (boys) as at time of Meet.

Team Commitments

All swimmers will be required to: a) Sign a Swimming WA team Agreement which outlines the commitment of

being selected on this squad b) Enter into this Agreement with their Coach who will support the selection c) Attend and travel with the team to the Western Australian 2019 Malaysian

Training Camp; from Tuesday 8 October – Sunday 13 October 2019 d) Complete all training requirements instructed by Swimming WA Head Coach

and Team Coach to the best of their ability

Fitness Requirements

The Swimming WA Head Coach must be satisfied that selected swimmers must demonstrate an uncompromised commitment to preparation at the Western Australian 2019 Malaysian Training Camp.

Withdrawal Should a swimmer or coach withdraw from the 2019 Western Australian 2019

Malaysia Training Camp following the team announcement, the Selection Panel may select another swimmer for replacement at its discretion.

Note • Swimming WA may amend the selection criteria at any time at its discretion.

• Swimming WA decision is final and no appeal process regarding a decision will be entered into.

• Swimming WA reserves the right to refuse selection regardless of achievement or to consider selection for those swimmers who may not meet the selection criteria.
