Ocean plastic can last in sea waters almost indefinitely, eventually accumulating in remote areas of the w o r l d ’s o c e a n s . T h e l a r g e s t accumulation zone of ocean garbage on the planet is much larger than anyone thought. It measures 1.6 million square kilometers (three times larger than the size of France) and contains an estimated 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic weighing an estimated 80,000 metric tons (the equivalent of 500 Jumbo Jets). *

The great garbage patch, marine animals dying, so many dumps, and nobody doing anything about all the plastic everywhere; on streets, in lakes, oceans, rivers and even in caves. Plastic has toxic chemicals like PVC,

It’s alive! Rubick’s cubes are back and they are here to stay. Our parents remember playing with this toy but they don’t always remember how they solved it! Rubick’s cubes are amazing puzzles that sharpen our minds and inspire us to take on challenges. There is no feeling in the world that compares to how you feel after you have solved your cube for the first time. When you solve a cube you have conquered an

amazing challenge.

Rubik’s cubes were invented in 1974 by a Hungarian professor named Ernö Rubik who was having difficulty explaining to students three dimensional figures. His solution you ask? To invent the Rubik’s cube. The cube is also known by other names like speed cube and puzzle cube. The act of solving or playing with a cube is called cubing. The colors of the faces of a Rubik’s cube are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and white. Most of the people are familiar with the 3x3 cube but there are more than 45 different variations of cubes. The smallest cube is a 1x1 and they go all the way up to 17x17. The

faces are not always squares either. There are rectangular, round, pentagon, parallel and even heart-shaped cubes!

People all over the world have been playing with this toy for over 40 years which makes it the best-selling toy ever. The world record for solving a 3x3 Rubik’s Cube is 3.47 seconds held by Du Yusheng from China on November 24, 2018. Master cubers are very competitive and competitions are fierce.

There are many ways you can learn how to solve a cube. YouTube is an excellent resource. Just make sure you pick the tutorials that go over the solution step by step. Once you master basic movements the rest is a piece of cake! I can give you some tips to inspire you to learn how to solve your first cube. First thing is to make sure you understand how the cube works. With that I mean, break it apart and understand the mechanism. Second thing is that you get a quality cube. A quality cube will be easier to play with and will last longer. Third tip is that you learn all the algorithms by heart. Algorithms are a series of movements or a sequence. Lastly, and this might be the most important tip, be ready to practice, practice and…practice. As you know, practice makes perfect.

Did you enjoy the magical adventures in the Harry Potter series? If you did, you should read the sequel, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child! This story starts 19 years after Harry and his friends were in

Hogwarts. Harry Potter marries Ginny Weasley, and they have three kids, Albus, James, and Lily. As you can see, the kids are named after Harry's parents and the headmaster.

Albus is going to Hogwarts and worried that the sorting hat will put him

in the Slytherin. The weird thing was that Albus got put in the Slytherin House with his new friend, Scorpius, son of Draco Malfoy, while James and Lily were assigned to the Gryffindor. Later, the kids meet the married couple, Hermione and Ron, with their daughter, Rose. All the children quickly became friends. One day, Albus and Scorpius were walking around and overheard Albus's dad talking to Amos Diggory about using a time-turner and saving Cedric from dying. After they heard the news, they went digging for the time-turner. Finally, they found it in a book. With the help of the time-turner,

Scorpius and Albus travel back to the time of the Tri-wizard Tournament and put spells on Cedric to prevent him from dying. But when they come back to the present, it is not the same present they left! Hermione is not married to Ron, Albus is in Gryffindor, and Harry told Albus to stay away from Scorpius. Albus is so confused and doesn't know what to do.

Do you want to find out what happens between Albus, Scorpius and Delphi? What about the Dark Lord? Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will answer all questions you have!

If you are hankering for something delicious, mouthwatering, or savory then Buca De Beppo is your restaurant. Buca is my favorite Italian restaurant because their menu has a wide variety of flavors that are unique and homemade. If you choose the kitchen seat, you get to see all the food getting prepared and the delicious aromas swirl around you. The staff are delightful, and you can ask them for the special or their preference of food. The children’s menu always has something

appetizing on it. If you tell the staff it is your birthday, they sing the Buca birthday song. The dessert menu has many items on it that are even more delicious than the main course menu. My favorite meal is the steamed broccoli as an appetizer, the children’s spaghetti and meatballs, and the chocolate gelato. Next time you want an experience you won’t forget, go to Buca De Beppo. I give it 5 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you like juicy burgers, great pizza and family fun The '401 is for you! The '401 is located at 6700 Ferris Street in Bellaire and is great for kids. On the menu there is everything a great restaurant should have: burgers, pizza, pasta, soups and more! Here everything is made with fresh, healthy ingredients and tastes great! The fun vibe and great time will make you want to come back! After reading this and learning about The ‘401, I hope you will dine there with family and friends!

February, being Black History Month, I decided to read about a black American hero. My mother recommended I to read about Jesse Owens. I am so glad I listened to her. Jesse was an African American boy who loved running because it made him feel free like a bird. He was born in Oakville, Alabama and suffered many hardships. He worked several jobs like delivering groceries and working in a shoe repair shop to help his family. Later, his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio. It is here where

he got his first taste of success. He became a star athlete for Ohio State University.

Soon he was chosen to compete in Olympics in Nazi Germany where Adolf Hitler was promoting the idea of "Aryan Superiority". Owen won four gold medals and crushed the myth of racial supremacy once and for all.

I am so inspired after reading about Jesse Owens. He proved that if you set your heart on something and work hard for it, nothing can stop you. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

1. Pong. The reason it’s number one is because it’s the first video game. If it didn't exist I would not even have written this article! When it was released it changed the entertainment world forever, sparking off the gaming industry. This is definitely the most legendary game ever.

2. Super Mario Bros series. This is the game that really gave Nintendo a 1-Up! This game made the company skyrocket to fame and it is why it is such a big company today. It has 18 titles in the series and is featured in over 200 games! A true gaming classic. It was released in 1984. Jump-man needed to save the princess from the evil Donkey Kong.

7.The Pokemon series. The reason Pokemon is on this list is because it has a trading card game, 18 animated movies, and tons of video games! The first titles in the series, Red and Blue had 150 Pokemon available to catch. Now there are over 800!

Most kids on Easter wake up and just chant “candy, candy, candy.” Most kids know the meaning of Easter but at least half of them can’t wrap their heads around it! Most families celebrate Easter by having a feast, going to a special church service, and an Easter egg hunt. Some non-

Christian families celebrate with candy, gifts, and egg hunts. Easter for many Christians is reminding them that there is life after death. The reason eggs are such a big deal is because

eggs mean birth and new life. People dye the eggs because in spring, trees blossom and the blossoms are colorful. The Easter bunny emerges from its “burrow” to give k ids candy to make them more enthusiastic about Easter. After you beat the champion of the Alola Region, the final boss for this generation of Pokemon, you have to help to kick Team Rocket out of a base they have set up in their floating refuge known as Aether Paradise. They have banded together the leaders of opposing teams, and your only hope of beating this episode is to defeat them all before moving onto Giovanni, your last opponent. When you do that, the Aether Paradise is goes back to

normal, you have helped the people there.

Episode Rainbow Rocket is a minuscule part of Ultra Sun and Moon’s large post-game, but is the last part of any structured story in the game. It’s a nod towards the previous games and how they are formulated. For those not in the know, Pokemon games usually follow a formula. You pass eight trials of some kind and then a Champion, but along the way you are

interrupted by an evil team. The teams are changed and usually quite original. Episode Rainbow Rocket brings all of them together. It does not cost any extra money to buy or play, and provides one to three hours of additional story. I rate it Five Stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Do you know what America's favorite sandwich is? It's a peanut butter and jelly sandwich! April 2nd is National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day. Some great things about it is how many cool things you can learn about peanut butter and the things you can do to celebrate it.

A few interesting facts about peanut butter are that George Washington Carver didn't invent peanut butter. Marcellus Gilmore Edson invented peanut butter. In 1901, Julia Davis Chandler was the first person to issue PB&J sandwiches in the U.S.A.

Jelly has some interesting facts too! Marcus Gavius Apicius invented jelly during the Roman Empire. My favorite

jelly is grape jelly, and my favorite jam is strawberry jam. My sister likes all berry jellies and jams.

You can celebrate National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day by trying to make peanut butter and jelly cupcakes, pie, cookies, donuts, and even fudge. What I'm going to do is use all the peanut butter and jelly we have in the house to try new recipes. You can always find new ways to celebrate it.

NATIONAL STUDENT ATHLETE DAY BY SEETHA, ANIKA, JOVAN, TIFFANY & DHVANI

Did you know there is a day dedicated to student athletes! The National Student Athlete Day is on April 6th, but it is celebrated from March to April every year.

The National Student Athlete Day was created by The National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS). The NCAS is an organization of colleges and universities. The mission of the NCAS is to "create a good society by focusing on education and using the power of sport to bring a positive change."

National Student Athlete Day recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of student-athletes. Student athletes who excel in both academics and athletics are honored on this day. The students are presented with award certificates, special ceremonies and gifts from companies.

National Student Athlete Day teaches kids to become more patient and improve their confidence by participating in these activities. This gives courage to students that will help them grow up.

The kids in the senior triathlon have to swim two hundred yards, bike six miles, and run one mile. To sign up go to www.houstontexans.comkidstriathalon and you will be able to sign up for our school. The kids’ triathlon and race packet pick up takes place at NRG Stadium.

The swimming portion is the first leg of the race. For this you will need is your ankle bracelet [which you will get with your package], a pair of goggles, a swimming cap, and a one piece swimsuit. Your bike, helmet, race number, and shoes will all be left at your transition station which you will go to after each leg of the race. After the swimming you need to take off your swimming cap

and goggles, and get ready to gear up for biking.

Next up, is biking! The biking portion is the second leg of the race. For biking, you will need your ankle bracelet, bike, helmet, shoes, and you can decide if you want to wear your race number or not. When not in use, your helmet always needs to be upside down to make it easier to put on.

Last but definitely not least, is the run! The run is the last leg of the race. You will need your ankle bracelet and your race number. After the run you will need to wait for the awarding ceremony which will start at 11:00 a.m.

I hope you will take my advice and start training for the kids’ triathlon. After all you only have a few weeks left before the big day.

If a student is struggling with something they should ask their teacher for additional help. Students can ask their parents to get some practice test questions from previous STAAR tests. Most importantly, pay attention in class! What You Should Do Before the STAAR Test?

To get through these long testing days, students should go to sleep for 10 or more hours each night so they won’t be tired during the STAAR test. Students should eat a healthy breakfast with lots of protein to give them energy throughout the day. If students get nervous the day of the test, just stay calm and know your teacher has prepared you well. Take your time because you have a long four hours of testing.
