Our ’55 Buick Roadmaster SedanBy Glenn and Debbie Novak
This is our third ’55 Series 70 Buick and we came across her for sale at an all-Buick car show in August of 1980 at a large Buick dealership in Indianapolis. We bought her at a fair price for all and drove her back to the Chicago area where we lived at the time, and then drove her down to Georgia when we moved here in 1984. Buick built 31,719 of these sedans in 1955, more than the hardtop and convertible models, as expected. The drive train is original with 322 cid V-8, four-barrel carb and Dynaflow Drive. She is a rather basic model with only power steering and brakes, manual seat and crank windows, Sonomatic radio with no A/C. I would guess she was the least expensive model in the top-of-the-line Roadmaster series, and these sedans started at $3349. This driver-quality Belfast Green and Dover White model 72R sedan is named “Hazel” and has provided us with many years of enjoyment and reliability since we adopted her so long ago.
This is a new section starting in this issue. We invite members to showcase their cars so we can learn about features and history,
and appreciate what owners may have done to preserve or restore their vehicles. Send your brief write-up and at least one photo to our Greasy Rag editor, Liz Horne. Hope you enjoy this addition
and that you will contribute to it.

Club Tour of Chuck Beck’s Sports Car ShopBy Glenn Novak
On Saturday, April 9th some members of our West Georgia Region of AACA joined up with folks from the Golden City Cruisers to visit Chuck Beck’s shop on the outskirts of Villa Rica, GA. It was a real treat to tour this master automotive crafts-man’s shop and to see so many of his sports car creations, many of which model themselves on various classic Porsche bod-ies. Those in attendance marveled at the creativity, accuracy and ingenuity embodied in these ultra-light and powerful cars. Some had perhaps seen a few here and there over the years at car shows, cruise nights or auctions.A real attention getter was the custom motorcycle powered by what else: A 12-cylinder Lamborghini engine that Chuck just happened to have sitting around for several years. No one can say this was not a creative use. You won’t see another. The event was very well attended with many ladies present. John Heilman assisted Chuck in the prep work for the visit and man-aged the coffee and donuts with flair. Everyone had a good time and many went back over to The Trading Post to enjoy a hearty lunch together. Our club thanks Chuck for inviting us over and sharing so many interesting stories and insights into the creation of these stunning vehicles.

Club Tour of the Chevrolet Collection of Ella and James CollierBy Glenn Novak
AACA member Greg Marshall was able to arrange for members of our region a private tour of the many wonder-ful Chevrolets owned by the Colliers of Atlanta. Several of us toured over there together on Friday, April 8th and spent some very enjoyable hours with our hosts, enjoying the va-riety of Chevys as well as a tasty barbeque lunch with trim-mings. The weather was great for the whole day. James owns over 30 cars and trucks, all Chevys, ranging from Camaros to Monte Carlos to Corvettes and Impalas. The years span from 1925 up into the 70’s with a strong spe-cialty of the model year 1932. Club members present were sure to remember the beautiful green 1932 cabriolet which won our 2014 car show Best of Show award, or perhaps the red 1959 Impala convertible or white 1963 Corvette coupe that have made their journeys to Carroll County shows in the past. Of particular interest to this writer was the 1932 phaeton and the very rare 1932 Landau, along with the white 1958 Impala coupe. James purchases his cars fully restored and they are correct and pristine examples, a joy to behold. For Chevrolet lovers, this was truly an event not to be missed. We are grateful to James and Ella for inviting us over and taking the time to show us around, and we thank Greg for setting it all up and assisting the Colliers in so many ways.
An Outing to Hills & DalesBy Glenn Novak
On Tuesday, March 29th a few members of our West Georgia Region of AACA took an early spring drive down to LaGrange, GA to view the gardens and tour the Callaway mansion at Hills & Dales Estate. Many members had been there before but the day dawned bright and clear and a party of nine formed up to head south to first eat lunch at Taste of Lemon, and then make the short drive across town to the estate. A weekday is always good as there were no crowds and late March is a perfect time to see the mounds of azaleas at their peak. As usual, the guided tour of the mansion was excellent and thorough and provided a good understanding of the intent of the Callaway family in the design and construction of the home. It can take a solid hour to really see everything inside. Following the house tour, members had plenty of time to walk the greenhouse and gardens on their own and appreciate the landscape design and execution. It is quite a thought to imagine how splendidly the wealthy folk lived back in 1916.
