PRS 2019 ANNUAL REPORT 2
Dear Friends,
We are so pleased to be greeting you at the end of another exciting and growth-filled year for PRS. PRS is providing behavioral health services to more clients than ever before and handling the most calls, texts and chats in PRS CrisisLink’s history.
This past year was a milestone year for our CrisisLink program—50 years of providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to our community! We hope you enjoy the 50th
anniversary timeline that is carried through the report which shares key events that have transformed PRS CrisisLink into what it is today.
As we continue to adjust to the changes in the delivery of behavioral health services that are occurring at the statewide level, we are proud to be serving more clients than ever with some of our strongest outcomes in our history. As one of our Recovery Academy clients stated recently, “I find hope here.” Our goal is to support each one of our clients in determining and accomplishing their recovery goals. And that means carrying hope for them and with them throughout their journey with PRS.
You will notice in this report that the number of calls handled by our CrisisLink crisis workers continues to increase. We are thankful that more and more individuals are reaching out to find hope and remain safe. Through the addition of new services, including being selected as one of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline’s Backup Centers, we expect the number of calls to be handled over the coming year to double to approximately 90,000. We are always looking for volunteers to support our CrisisLink program as hotline, textline and chatline crisis workers. Please visit prsinc.org/volunteer if you are interested in this life-changing and life-saving work.
Finally, throughout 2019, we continued to embrace our new brand and launched our new website, www.prsinc.org. Our hope is that the site reaches all audiences who desire to engage with PRS—from clients (current and prospective) to stakeholders to supporters to volunteers and so many more! Continue to watch our website for updates on upcoming events, news from PRS as well as a variety of volunteer opportunities.
Please stay connected! We look forward to engaging with you and seeing you at future events throughout our community. Thank you for your unwavering support of our efforts to change and save lives every day! We are excited to partner with you in the months and years to come.
Sincerely,
Wendy Gradison, LCSW

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICESPRS provides a continuum of community-based behavioral health services. We promote recovery by supporting persons served in making and implementing informed decisions to overcome challenges, build
strengths, participate in their community, improve and sustain overall wellness, and remain safe. Our well-established role in the community enables us to provide innovative models of service and program delivery while maintaining close relationships with persons served, their families and the community at large. PRS’ experience shows that with the proper services and supports, persons served can and do increase their independence and self-sufficiency. They are taking critical steps to leading strong and fulfilling lives through their individual recovery journeys.
ABOUT OUR CLIENTSOver the past 57 years, PRS results show that with appropriate medication, training, skill building and supports, people living with mental illness, substance use disorders, mild intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, or anyone facing life crises can moderate the dramatic impact of their illness or crisis on their lives, improve their overall wellness, develop meaningful connections to their communities, and live productive and satisfying lives. PRS clients are referred by public and private agencies, such as the Virginia Community Services Boards, the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services, the District of Columbia’s Core Service Agencies, mental health professionals, self-referral or family members. PRS’ CrisisLink Hotline, CrisisText Connect and chatline are available to all individuals in the community.
5th Annual #CallTextLive CampaignPRS CrisisLink’s 5th Annual #CallTextLive Campaign during
suicide prevention month was a huge success!
Throughout our month-long campaign, we offered a calendar
of activities for our volunteers, staff, and community members
to get involved and show their support of suicide prevention.
Activities included a Facebook Live from the call center, World
Suicide Prevention Day, Selfie Day, and 5K Walks with the
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and the American
Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
Thank you to all who participated and supported suicide
prevention month and our #CallTextLive campaign.
Together, we can reduce the stigma and create suicide-safe
communities!

VOLUNTEER IMPACTWithout our dedicated team of volunteers, our vision to change and save lives in our community would not be possible.
PRS’ Board of Directors provide oversight, support and governance of our organization. PRS volunteers invest their time and talent in programs including PRS CrisisLink’s hotline, textline and chatline, CareRing outbound calling program and Recovery Academies. Volunteers also donate their time in our Administration office, help at PRS special events, organize donation drives, and participate in group and youth opportunities.
Our committees support the planning for PRS’ annual signature event and other important functions such as finance, and resource development.
GET INVOLVEDMake a difference in your community by helping PRS provide supports and resources to individuals living with mental illness and anyone who faces life crises.
Involvement in PRS can be as simple as:
• Telling friends, family, colleagues and neighbors about PRS’ award-winning programs, services and outcomes so that people in need in the community can connect with our services
• Volunteering in our programs administrative office, serving on a committee, or youth or group opportunities: prsinc.org/volunteer
• Making a financial gift or an in-kind donation: prsinc.org/donate
• Donating an item from our wish list: prsinc.org/donate
