Term 1 3rd April 2019 Learning for the future Ahuwhenua – Manaakitia – Manamotuhake – Manawanui - Hiranga Kia ora, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Kia orana, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Malo ni, Bula, Greetings… Welcome… Week 10 Term 1! Final Panui for Term 1 Term 1 is fast closing in with less than two weeks to go. It has been a great term! Our Year 5 and 6 students attended camp at Mangawhai, we have been able to swim, we had a Naval helicopter visit, swimming sports, teachers have had Professional Learning Development and we had a cool movie night. And to top it all off as parents/whanau you have supported the school well. Especially the parents who were able to attend camp, you are amazing! The bottom line is we could not go without your support and I know the parents who wanted to go but could not, would be saying the same thing. Thank you!! Term 2 New Teacher We have yet to appoint this position as we are currently at the interview stage, but a new teacher will start in Team Pono as new students start school in Term 2. It is always exciting to have a new teacher and new students to school. We will update you in Term 2. Home and School AGM A small but dedicated group met on Tuesday 26 th March and planned events for the year, which will continue to support all students in the school. Next term we will be contacting parents with an intended event. If everyone is able to offer 30 minutes on a roster it is amazing how that lightens the load for the few who are always doing it. So look out for a phone call later next term to help out. Rimu’s New Canopy The new canopy on Rimu deck has been completed and is a very welcome addition for providing shade from the beating sun, glare from off the deck, shelter from the rain and another space to learn and meet on. We had a slight delay with waiting for the galvanizing, but otherwise Shade Systems have completed a great canopy! Lost Property Out comes the usual mention of lost property. We have a huge pile in our office foyer area by the sick bay. As a staff we can’t understand why it is so big. Next term it will not stay around for the whole term so please ensure you keep an eye on your child/ren’s clothing. If you have a child that frequently loses clothing and you don't want to label clothing, then can I suggest you buy a notebook (70 cents at Countdown or 30 cents from the school office) and write down what your child is wearing each school day. It will help to make it easier to locate the missing clothing. At the end of every term we give away close to $1,000 worth of clothing. It creates extra work for staff so please help us to eliminate this problem. Last day of School for Term 1 The last day of term is Friday 12 th April at the usual 3:00pm close. It has been an 11 week term and we are starting to notice some tired students. They have all done incredibly well, as they have had heat and humidity to contend with for a longer period than previous years. Term 2 The first day of Term 2 is Monday 29 th April with the usual start time of 8:55am. It is a 10 week term and has one break in it for Queens Birthday on Monday 3 rd June. The term ends on Friday 5 th July.

Professional development for Teachers to improve Student Achievement Jo Beaumont leads our teachers with Writing so that they can lead out quality Writing programmes. This is her third year of doing it and this term she has concentrated on our new teachers so they are up to speed with what happens at Kamo Primary when we teach Writing. I wish to acknowledge Jo and our new teachers for their efforts to date. Being literate is what you want for your child/ren and we are working hard to ensure that. I would also like to mention Dianne Ogle who is an external provider supporting our teachers in Mathematics. Once again our teachers are rising to ensure they are delivering what they should be, and in turn student understanding of Mathematics is improving. I am proud of Kamo Primary teachers constantly striving to ensure our students are gaining quality learning.

Gumboot Friday This Friday 5th April will be Gumboot Day - a national day to wear your gumboots in support of people who suffer with mental health. This is a fast growing problem in NZ and we, as school, know the impact it has on children and their families/whanau. So on Friday your child/ren are welcome to bring along their gumboots and wear them in support. They are also welcome to bring a coin to donate and this will be sent through to Gumboot Friday Appeal account number 30 9020 0336055 01. Your child can bring other shoes to wear if gumboots become hard work for the day. Please name your childs gumboots.
