On this day the LORD h as acted;

we will rejoice and be glad in it

I shall not die but live.

and proclaim the works of the Lord!

Alleluia! Christ is risen!

2

PROCESSIONAL HYMN “Jesus Christ is Risen Today”

GREETING The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

And also with you.

3

HYMN OF PRAISE

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Let us pray.

God of mercy, we no longer look for Jesus among the dead, for he is alive and has become the

Lord of life. Increase in our minds and hearts the risen life we share with Christ, and help us to

grow as your people toward the fullness of eternal life with you, through Jesus Christ, our Savior

and Lord, whom with you and the Holy Spirit we worship and praise, one God, now and forever.

Amen

_____________________________ SERVICE OF THE WORD _____________________________

FIRST READING Acts 10:34-43 34Then Peter began to speak to them: "I truly understand that God shows no partiality, 35but in every nation anyone who

fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. 36You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching

peace by Jesus Christ — he is Lord of all. 37That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism

that John announced: 38how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing

good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. 39We are witnesses to all that he did both in

Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; 40but God raised him on the third day and allowed

him to appear, 41not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him

after he rose from the dead. 42He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God

as judge of the living and the dead. 43All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives

forgiveness of sins through his name."

This is the Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God. Alleluia!

PSALM Psalm 118 “Alleluia, This is the Day” (Cantate Choir)

Alleluia! This is the day the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Alleluia!

Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his mercy endures forever.

Let the house of Israel say, “His mercy endures forever.”

The right hand of the Lord is exalted; the right hand of God has struck with power.

I shall not die but I shall live and declare the works of God.

The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.

By the Lord has this been done, it is wonderful in our eyes.

SECOND READING Colossians 3:1-4

So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2Set

your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, 3for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ

in God. 4When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.

This is the Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God. Alleluia!

NICENE CREED

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen

and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,

eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all

things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven;

by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the virgin Mary, and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is

seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the

dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the

Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the

prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one Baptism

for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to

come. Amen

PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING AT THE TABLE

The LORD is my strength and my song;

and He has become my salvation.

Pastor: Thanks and praise to you, heavenly Father, for the glorious resurrection of your Son, Jesus Christ, our

Lord; for he is the Lamb of God, who was offered for us and has taken away the sins of the world. By

his death, he has destroyed death, and by his rising to life again, he has restored us to everlasting life.

Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify your

holy name, singing:

7

SANCTUS (“Holy, holy, holy”)

WORDS OF INSTITUTION

As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.

Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen

AGNUS DEI (“Lamb of God”)

COMMUNION DISTRIBUTION

Scripture says, “Whenever we eat this bread and drink this cup we proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” 1

Corinthians 11:26. Martin Luther’s Small Catechism says, “Holy Communion is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus

Christ under the bread and wine, instituted by Christ Himself for us Christians to eat and drink.” All baptized Christians

who have been instructed in this confession of faith and who share our belief in the real presence of Christ in the

sacrament for the forgiveness of sins are invited to the Lord’s Table today. Children who have not received their first

communion are invited to come to the table and receive a blessing.

As you approach the table down the aisles, receive an empty cup from the cart.

Proceed to the left or the right and gather around the altar.

After each gathered group has communed, they are dismissed in peace.

As you return to your seat down the side aisles, place your cup in the racks on the tables to your left or right.

Non-alcoholic wine is offered in pre-filled cups for those who cannot drink alcohol. These cups are marked in the rack.

Gluten-free (and dairy-free and nut-free) wafers are offered in the small white bowl on the communion cart for those who

prefer this option.

SONGS DURING COMMUNION “Now All the Vault of Heav’n Resounds”

9

“Christ Has Arisen, Alleluia”

DISMISSAL

The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen and keep us in his grace.

Amen

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING Life-giving God,

in the mystery of Christ’s death and resurrection

you conquer the darkness, give new life and nourish your people.

Send us forth as witnesses to Jesus’ resurrection

that we may show your glory to all the world;

through the same Jesus Christ, our risen Lord. Amen.

11

BLESSING

May God who has brought us from death to life

fill you with great joy.

Almighty God, Father, ☩ Son, and Holy Spirit,

bless you now and forever.

Amen

Go in peace. Christ lives in you.

Thanks be to God.

CLOSING HYMN “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”

5. He lives and grants me daily breath;

He lives, and I shall conquer death;

He lives my mansion to prepare;

He lives to bring me safely there.

6. He lives all glory to his name!

He lives, my Savior, still the same;

What joy this blest assurance gives:

I know that my Redeemer lives!

The “Gospel” of Gideon A Adult Bible Study Based on Judges 6 and 7

Led by the Rev. Steven E. King

The Old Testament story of Gideon tells of how the grace of God was revealed to the people of Israel at a time of great struggling and hardship. Not only does the story give an interesting and accurate look into the realities of ancient life, but it also illustrates well some of the fundamental concepts of Christian theology we experience in our own lives of faith. The story may be called a prophetic "gospel" inasmuch as its themes foreshadow the

salvation accomplished by God in Jesus Christ.
