Why W.O.N.?

The World Organisation of Notaries was formed to enable properly qualified Common Law Notary organisations and individuals to promote their professional and business interests domestically and internationally.

Membership in W.O.N. will help raise profiles, generate additional work and income, and facilitate communication with and learning from other Notaries in Common Law jurisdictions.

The Benefits of W.O.N. Membership

1. Membership in W.O.N. will help increase the flow of business and income to you as a Notary.

2. You will have the opportunity to make contact with W.O.N. members in other countries, receive referrals, refer legal work, and obtain the legal advice/assistance of W.O.N. members in other jurisdictions.

3. W.O.N. will help raise the profile—both domestically and internationally—of you as a Notary and of all the other Notary members of W.O.N. in your country.

4. The organisation will promote the interests of the members to each other and to nonmembers and the general public throughout the world.

5. W.O.N. will provide relevant information and education to W.O.N. members, especially in Common Law jurisdictions.

Our W.O.N. Conference Speakers

Ken Sherk

Ken Sherk is the inaugural President of W.O.N. After graduating from the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada, Ken chose a career in education but his interest in the law soon directed him to the notary profession. Further studies at UBC led to his commission as a BC Notary in 1983. Ken has served on the Board of Directors of The Society of Notaries Public of British Columbia for 24 years, including two terms as President. He has also served as a Governor of the Notary Foundation Board for 22 years and as the Foundation’s Chair. As a Governor, Ken’s focus is to help support Legal Aid in BC and the various funding groups that deliver legal services to the general public in the province. The Notary Foundation grants have significant impact in providing additional legal services and information to individuals and groups in British Columbia that would not otherwise have access to that assistance. Ken continues to work toward increased powers for the members of The Society of Notaries, to enable them to provide an even broader range of noncontentious legal services to the people of British Columbia.

Peter Zablud

Professor Peter Zablud, RFD, Dist. FANZCN, Australian lawyer and notary, is an untiring campaigner for the establishment and maintenance of the highest possible standards of notarial practice. Peter also presents workshops and masterclasses for practising and prospective notaries throughout Australasia and in-house lectures and seminars about the notariat and the authentication of documents for government and private organisations. For a number of years, Peter has chaired sessions and presented papers at Conferences conducted by the Hague Conference on Private International Law. His paper “Aspects of the Apostille Convention” has been acknowledged as being a significant contribution to the deliberations of the Hague Conference Special Commission of November 2012 on the practical operation of the Apostille Convention.
