WHAT IS THE PURPOSE?

o To ensure that every APS student has the opportunity to be screened for advanced level and/or gifted services.

WHAT TEST WILL WE USE FOR SCREENING?
NNAT(Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test)

o Appropriate as a measure of general ability
o Predictor of scholastic achievement
o Appropriate for diverse cultural and language backgrounds (hearing, language, or motor impairment).
o Designed for fair assessment of socially or economically disadvantaged students.
o The Naglieri is a non-verbal test
o Instructions are very short

MAKE SURE DESKS ARE FREE OF ANY OBJECTS
(BOOKS AND PAPERS)
PACESETTERS!
DURING THE TEST
SPEND AS MUCH TIME AS IS NEEDED FOR STUDENTS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY NEED TO DO, AND HOW THEY ARE TO MARK THEIR ANSWERS.
NEVER MAKE UP YOUR OWN SAMPLES – REPEAT THE SAMPLE DIRECTIONS ONLY.
PACESETTERS!
ONCE TEST BEGINS . . .
GIVE STUDENTS WHATEVER HELP
THEY NEED WITH MARKING OR
TURNING PAGES . . . BUT . . .
DO NOT HELP THEM WITH SPECIFIC TEST ITEMS.
PACESETTERS!
MAKE SURE STUDENTS DO NOT ACCIDENTALLY SKIP PAGES WHEN
TURNING PAGES.RECOMMENDED:
USE ½ SHEET MARKERS SO THEY ONLY SEE ONE PROBLEM AT A TIME.
DEMONSTRATE

FOR STUDENTS WHO SEEM TO SLOW DOWN OR WHO APPEAR TO GIVE UP,
ENCOURAGE
However, IF a student is crying, or has COMPLETELY shut down, excuse them from completing the test. If you feel they are able, you can attempt to have them
complete test individually with student if parent gives permission.

AFTER THE TEST
COLLECT BOOKS
VERIFY ALL PROBLEMS WERE MARKED BY EACH STUDENT(if not, encourage them to select an
answer)
PACESETTERS!
SCORING
Scoring will be done in the Division of Accountability and Research.
**Send all booklets via school mail to Div. of A and R no
later than
October 25th PACESETTERS!
WHEN YOU SEND BACK TEST BOOKS:1. MAKE SURE TOP BOX ON BACK OF TEST IS
COMPLETE ON EACH TEST.
2. STUDENTS ARE GROUPED BY TEACHER.
3. FILL OUT NAMES OF STUDENTS PER CLASS ON THE CLASS RECORD FORM (return with test books).
PACESETTERS!
WHAT NOW?
AFTER EACH TEST HAS BEEN SCORED1. THE COMPLETED CLASS RECORDS SHEET WILL
BE RETURNED TO YOUR BUILDING.2. TEST BOOKLETS WILL BE RETURNED TO YOUR
BUILDING. (TO BE PUT IN STUDENT CUM FOLDERS).
3. AGATE TOSA AND AGATE LEADER IN YOUR BUILDING WILL MAKE FURTHER DETERMINATIONS FOR STUDENT PROGRAMMING/AGATE IDENTIFICATION.
4. COMMUNICATION TO THE PARENTS WILL BE SHARED AT CONFERENCES BY THE CLASSROOM TEACHER.
