Welcome to the TownAppeal.com Newsletter
July/ August 2018
TownAppeal.com would like to welcome
The Traveling Chic Boutique, a women’s clothing store, at 800 Federal Rd. and
Burgerim, a Chicago-based burger chain, which will share the space with Dunkin' Donuts at 7 Federal
Rd.
In local organization news, Brookfield is proud to have one of our very own, Mark Lyon, elected as
International Director of the Lions Clubs International organization. Congratulations Mark!
Dawn DeCosta loves technology and has always enjoyed helping
people. For the last 20 years, she has volunteered as co-president of the
Brookfield Newcomers club, spearheaded cultural programs for Brookfield
schools, and coordinated the effort to put a mosaic wall at Huckleberry Hill
School.
Eventually, she decided that she wanted to get a job outside the home
and found employment at the Apple Store as a Sales Specialist. She
really enjoyed working there, and especially loved teaching Apple users
how to operate their products. Many people she helped asked “Can I take you home with me?”
Seeing a need to be filled, Dawn launched a one-on-one and small group technology consulting firm,
Tech Savvy, in 2013. Her mission was to make technology less intimidating for people who are just
getting started or have slipped behind the times and need to master the latest tools and devices.
She has conducted numerous training sessions throughout the Western Connecticut area. Her speaking
engagements are filled with tips and tricks for how people can use technology to enhance their lives, be
more efficient with their time, and easily connect with family and friends. “I taught Facebook and Twitter to
four women at their kitchen table in an hour and a half” says Dawn.
Recently,Dawn has expanded her clientele to include small businesses. She finds that many of them
need help in marketing and developing a social media presence. She also is continuing to offer tech
classes to groups of up to ten people.
While she embraces technology, she has also come to appreciate the incredible effect these tools can
have on one’s personal life, the balance that is needed when using these devices and the importance of
never letting technology replace the human connection.
