MACH Molly Award Winner
Congratulations are due to the 2016 winner of the of the MACH Molly award. MACH15 Chinak La Ren on a Whim MXC4 MJC4 FTC2 MFB3 TQX T2B16, a Papillion owned by Robin Kletke and Robin Cohen is this year’s recipient. It is an award sponsored by KCA and given to the year’s top agility dog to honor MACH 17 Molly CD, XF a rescue Keeshond owned and trained by Maureen Waldron. For many years, MACH 17 Molly was the highest ranking agility dog, holding the highest level of the Master Agility Champion title. Molly held the lifetime achievement Agility record until 2006. Molly and Maureen earned 13,358 MACH points and 382 Double Qs over Molly’s lifetime. Molly and Maureen demonstrated our breed’s success in the sport of agility, defeating all other breeds. Molly serves as inspiration for many current Keeshond agility exhibitors. This award commemorates their legacy.

AUGUST 29, 2016

Call to Order: Donna called the meeting to
order at 8:30 PM EDT.
Report of the President: Donna reported
that AKC sent written approval of our
recently revised and approved Bylaws. She
also noted that she received a statement
from AKC directing that the names of
National Week judges cannot be released
until AKC approves the Events.
Recording Secretary: Mary Ellen made a
motion to approve the corrected minutes.
Anita seconded the motion. The motion was
passed. The Annual Meeting Minutes were
accepted and will be approved at next
Annual Meeting.
Corresponding Secretary: Lois presented
two KCA membership applications -

The Board received a number of emails
from KCA members objecting to Cyndi
Clingerman’s membership application. After
discussion, Lois made a motion to deny
Cyndi’s application. Mary Ellen seconded
the motion. The motion was passed. Lois
will contact Cyndi to discuss the Board’s
decision.
Treasurer’s Report: Anita reported a
checking account balance of $36,429.24 and
a savings account balance of $115,480.22.
Sandalfoot Keeshond has requested
reimbursement for 2015 Meet the Breeds
booth in Orlando. Mary Ellen made a
motion that KCA reimburse Sandalfoot up
to $250 if receipts or other documentation
are provided. Eileen seconded the motion.
The motion was passed.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Judges Education: Donna reported
receiving two applications for Mentor
renewals from Donna Stekli and Tawn
Sinclair. Mary Ellen made a motion to
approve Donna Stekli and Tawn Sinclair as
mentors. Eileen seconded the motion. The
motion was passed. Donna shared AKC’s
final version of the "Judges' Use of Ramp"
statement to be included in the next AKC
Judge's Newsletter.
Breeders Education Committee: Donna
reporting for Deb asked if the drawings from
the Illustrated Standard could be used in the
forum and on any advertising materials the
committee produces. Ken made a motion
that the Breeder's Education Committee be
authorized to use the KCA materials both on
the Breeders Ed forum, on membership
materials and in advertising to the extent
that they apply to the purpose of their
committee. Mary Ellen seconded the
motion. The motion was passed.
2017 National: Elizabeth announced that
Alecia Novak and Tammy Siegers will now
be co-chairing the Michigan National.

OLD BUSINESS
Website: Mary Ellen brought the Board up-
to-date on areas the new website will have
available.
Ways and Means: Elizabeth would like a
generic Keeshond email address assigned to
the Ways and Means Committee
Chairperson for use in the Legacy brochure.
Mary Ellen reported that Karen Evasuik,
past Ways and Means Chairperson, has
boxes of Kees materials intended for sale on
the website store. Mary Ellen will ask Karen
to send an inventory of the sales items to
Elizabeth Fortino. Karen and Elizabeth will
decide how to transport materials from
Karen to Elizabeth.
NEW BUSINESS COE Request: Donna presented Jennifer
Sturgeon’s letter concerning the use of
deceased dogs’ semen and of previously
used dogs, which do not meet current code
of ethics. The Board agreed that deceased
dogs may be used, but living dogs should
comply with the tests required by the new
Code of Ethics.
Futurity/Maturity Judging: Donna
reviewed Robin Hite’s letter asking for more
regulation in the Futurity/Maturity Judge’s
instructions from KCA. The Board decided
not to change current rules, but to create a
template letter of instructions for future use,
which clearly states that dogs owned or co-
owned by the Judge may not be entered.

to adjourn meeting. Eileen seconded the
motion. The motion was passed. The

the meeting to order at 8:36 EDT. Report of the President: Donna reported that
the Caldwell-Kissling/Moss hearings were not
held due to the resignation of one of the
members. She also reported that Kimberley
Smith will take over as Agility Statistician on
January 1, 2017.
Recording Secretary: Mary Ellen made a
motion to approve the minutes from the August
29, 2016 teleconference meeting. Anita
seconded the motion. The motion was passed
unanimously.
Corresponding Secretary: Lois presented the

approved unanimously. Lois reported that the quarterly Corresponding
Secretary's Report has been sent to membership.

Treasurer’s Report: Anita stated that the
combined balance of checking and savings
accounts is $158,602. Mary Ellen made a motion
to accept the financial statement. Eileen
seconded the motion. The motion was
unanimously approved. Anita reported that most
of the 2017 dues have been paid but there
remain 39 unpaid which are now past due.
Anthea DeForest sent the Board a note
suggesting that KCA add a return envelope
addressed to the Treasurer with the Dues Notice
packet to encourage prompter responses from
members. Lois made a motion to add KCA
addressed return envelopes to the Dues Notice
packet. Eileen seconded the motion. The vote
was passed by a simple majority with 4 for and 2
against. Anita gave a history of the “KCA
Trophy Fund” verbiage on the Dues Notice.
Eileen made a motion to change “KCA Trophy”
to “KCA Awards” on the Dues Notice to better
describe how the collected money is to be used.
Mary Ellen seconded the motion. The motion
was passed unanimously. Donna, then, notified
the Board that it needs to approve the yearly
Keeshond trophies payment to the AKC
National Show held in December in
Orlando. Eileen made a motion to donate $215
to pay for the Keeshond trophies in all venues of
the AKC National Show. Mary Ellen seconded
the motion. The motion was passed
unanimously.
The Board took a break at 10:50 and reconvened
at 11:05 EDT.
Committee Reports Website: Mary Ellen presented the new look of
website and noted comments by Board
members. Elizabeth made a motion to purchase
the domain name, keeshondclubofamerica.org,
for our new website for ten years. Lois seconded
the motion. The motion was passed
unanimously.
Judges Education: Donna will be doing a
presentation at the December AKC National
Dog Show as well as a first time seminar at the
Oklahoma City Classic next summer. Breeders Education: This Committee no longer
feels the need for a Board liaison and will report
directly to the Board in the future.
Ways and Means – Elizabeth reported some
changes on final copy of Legacy Brochure. The
board suggested further changes for the
brochure.
2017 National: Donna received a letter from
new Co-Chairs, Tammy Siegers and Alecia
Novak, containing an updated schedule,
committee list and new agility site. The
Michigan club has requested an advance of
$4000 for pre-show expenses. Eileen made a
motion to advance Michigan the $4000. Lois
seconded the motion. The motion was passed
unanimously.
2018 National: Donna reported that judges have
been secured. The host club will be celebrating
its 50th anniversary with gold themed trophies at
a Doubletree Hotel in Lawrence, Kansas. 2019 National: Anita reported that Pacific Crest
is looking at several sites within 30 miles of the
Seattle airport. Old Business
Standard Review Committee: The Board
decided that this Committee is not to
recommend new language for the current
Standard. This Committee's mission is to review
the current standard to determine by consensus
on whether there are certain sections which
might need to be better defined and clarified.
Inventory: Eileen reported that she has partially
completed the inventory of KCA materials. She
also informed the Board that Cathy Bosnic no
longer wishes to be Historian, but would like to
complete an inventory before handing over
material.
The Board was recessed for lunch at 12:55 and
reconvened at 2:51 EDT.
MAPP: Bonnie presented a revised
Introduction/Goal page for MAPP description.
The goal of the Board is to publish MAPP
Committee information in the Spring
Corresponding Secretary’s Report.
New Business Policy Manual Changes: Application Sponsor - Lois made a motion that
the sponsors for a Membership Applicant may
not be related to each other or to the applicant,
nor may they reside in the same household as
each other or the applicant. Mary Ellen seconded
[KCA Secretary Report, Vol. 1, Spring 2016] Page 5
this motion. The motion was passed by a simple
majority of 7 for and 1 against. High in Trial for Agility - Anita made a motion
to accept the specified criteria for the National
Specialty’s Agility High in Trial, effective 2018.
Mary Ellen seconded the motion. The motion
was passed unanimously. Futurity / Maturity Judge Eligibility - Mary
Ellen made a motion stating that the breeders of
the Best and Best of Opposite in Futurity and
Maturity should be included eligible as the
following year’s Judge. Terri seconded the
motion. The motion was passed unanimously. Futurity / Maturity Judge Letter - Eileen made a
motion to accept the proposed template letter for
the Policy Manual Appendix apprising the
Futurity/Maturity Judge of entry restrictions.
Elizabeth seconded the motion. The motion was
passed unanimously. New Membership Packet - Mary Ellen made a
motion stating that while portions of the New
Member packet may be sent by email, the
Illustrated Standard and Grey Book must be
mailed. Elizabeth seconded the motion. The
motion was passed unanimously. KCA Medallions - Mary Ellen made a motion to
change KCA Medallion language to read, “If
trophies are listed in the Premium List, KCA
Medallions must be listed. If a condensed
Premium List is used, KCA Medallions need not
be listed.” Eileen seconded the motion. The
motion was passed unanimously. Recording Secretary - Lois made a motion that
the Board minutes may not be published in the
Secretary’s Report until after they are approved
by the Board. Eileen seconded the motion. The
motion was passed unanimously. Conformation Statistics - Elizabeth made a
motion to change the language in the Policy
Manual calculating the “Dogs defeated for Top
Show Dog and Bitch” to be consistent where
listed under “Conformation Statistician” and
“Awards.” Mary Ellen seconded the motion. The
motion was passed unanimously. Sierra Specialty Date Approval: Mary Ellen
made a motion that the Board approve the Sierra
Specialty proposed date of April 15, 2017.
Elizabeth seconded the motion. The motion was
passed unanimously. The Board took a break at 5:20 and reconvened
at 5:27 EDT.
Southern California Keeshond Club New
Specialty Date: A list of possible dates for the
SoCal Specialty was presented. The Board
agreed that the proposed June or July dates are
better than the September date.
KCA Banner: Donna suggested that KCA have
a KCA banner to display at all the National
Specialties. Elizabeth will encourage Regional
Clubs to have their own 2’ by 3’ banners made
to bring to National.
Items from Members: Rick Su suggested that KCA might consider
donating any extra rescue-designated funds to
support AKC Emergency Pet Relief trailers. The
Board tabled discussion pending further
information.
A KCA member suggested creating a public
Facebook page with general information about
the breed club, upcoming show information, etc.
Officer Nominating Committee: Donna
appointed Lois to chair the Officer Nominating
Committee and appointed Eileen and Terri as the
committee members.
Michigan Specialty Date: Elizabeth asked for
Michigan Specialty approval on August 5, 2017,
if the Michigan club chooses to hold a second
specialty in 2017. Lois made a motion to
approve the August date, if Michigan desires it.
Mary Ellen seconded the motion. The motion
passed unanimously.

will check their calendars for availability. Next Teleconference Call: December 5, 2017 at
8:30 EST

adjourn the meeting. Elizabeth seconded the
