Societies Meaningful discussions with peers and faculty about subjects of interest

Faculty-led Societies have a specific theme or disciplinary focus. They are designed to cultivate community among students and to create the opportunity for informal interactions between faculty members and students with the support of Wall Resident Advisors (RAs). Societies engage the Tulane community and

also take students off campus to explore local and regional issues relevant to the New Orleans community. Wall Societies meet once each month of the academic year to provide an open exchange of ideas, support, advice, and an intellectual community to first-year students. All members of the undergraduate Honors RLC will belong to a Society.

FALL WELCOME AUGUST 2016

A MESSAGE FROM DR. CARRIE WYLAND,

YOUR FRIENDLY FACULTY IN RESIDENCE (FIR)

"Welcome to our wonderful Wall community; we can't wait to meet you! You'll spot me and my husband with our two little boys (Sammy and Ernie) around the building and campus and you can always stop by our apartment on the first floor across from the courtyard to say hi anytime. Also, make sure to stay tuned for some fun programming from the FIR."

FLOORING

This summer our residence hall received some much anticipated upgrades! This year’s highlight project is new flooring throughout the rooms and lounges.

POWER WASHING

HONORS RLC MENTOR PROGRAM One of your most valuable resources this year will be students who have already experienced the the First-Year Honors RLC. Students in the Upperclass Honors RLC know how things work in the Tulane community and have developed strategies to manage rigorous coursework and social engagements . These upperclassmen are ready to share their knowledge with you through the Honors RLC Mentor Program. Make sure to sign up for the program when you check in to be paired with a mentor!

FALL WELCOME AUGUST 2016

WHO’S WHO IN WALL: RESIDENT DIRECTOR Mark Myers serves Wall students as the Resident Director, focusing on supervision of Resident Advisors (RAs) and the front desk staff. Mark helps maintain community living standards and collaborates with Honors to ensure successful programming ventures. If you need someone to talk to or have a random housing or university question, Mark is a great resource. Feel free to drop by his office on the first floor of Wall during business hours.

WHO’S WHO IN WALL: RESIDENT ADVISORS (RAS) Each floor in Wall will have 1-2 Resident Advisors. RAs are upperclass students who have great knowledge of Tulane and work to create safe and welcoming communities on their floors. RAs are trained in crisis response and conflict resolution (among many other things!), and are relatable people who want to be of assistance. RAs aim to create inclusive spaces, and always emphasize that roommates and suite mates communicate with one another (don't be passive-aggressive!). These are very important people that you will meet on move-in day!

TRASH TO TREASURE Make sure to stop by Dixon Hall to purchase gently used items on the cheap from the Trash to Treasure student organization. All proceeds will be used to serve the New Orleans community.

THE HONORS RLC In Wall, the Honors Program plays an integral role in the education that takes place outside of the classroom. To learn more about the Honors Program, visit honors.tulane.edu. Honors Program faculty and staff can be found at 105 Hébert on the Academic Quad when not conducting business or attending events at Wall!

NEEDS ASSESSMENT In the hopes of better serving you, the student, please take a few minutes to complete the following needs assessment:   http://tulane.co1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_eF1hWmgUXTrahkp. Thank you for your participation and insight!

TULANE CAMPUS CUP Don’t miss your opportunity to battle other residence halls in a variety of games and activities. Assert Wall Domination! Mark it on your calendars: September 11th from 1PM-4PM on the LBC Quad. Click here for more info!
