Dear People of St. Anthony, St. Mary and Holy Family Parish:

“Some who are last will be first,

and some who are first will be last.”

(Luke 13:30)

The last person we hired is the first to be moving to a new location. Seth Duprey, his

beloved wife Stephanie and their very newborn daughter Monica are moving this

weekend back to the Green Bay area. Seth has been our half time Music Coordinator

for the past year and with a growing family seeks full-time employment closer to their

families.

At the time of this writing he had not been offered a job yet but had several more interviews scheduled. A

newborn child, moving, looking for work….it would be easy for them to feel the last in terms of how this

world measures success and security. But I’ve known many families to say it was during their toughest years

that they were the closest to one another and to God. These may be the years they think of first at life’s end.

Blessings to you Seth, Steph and Monica!

Lindsey Bauer, the new Child Care Director at Little Angels Child Care just made her first hire and it was the

last person you might expect. Lois Vesbach had picked up one of the cards from Tammy Redetzke who

spoke after Masses a couple of weeks ago. Tammy runs the “Citizens Employment and Training Program”

formerly known as the “Green Thumb.” It’s a program that supports senior citizens seeking employment.

To our delight we discovered that Lois has 30 years of teaching elementary school in her background. Since

the Citizens Employment and Training program only pays for up to 20 hours of work a week, Lois will be a

teacher’s aid in the Child Care program. First out of school and just married herself, Lindsey welcomes

someone on staff who has lasted through the ups and downs of life and brings wisdom and compassion to the

center. If you are a senior citizen, don’t think of yourself as the last and least likely to be hired! If not at the

Child Care Center, the House of Mercy and each of our parishes would greatly benefit from your wisdom and

experience as well. Tammy has funding for eight more people!

The last of the 43 traps and 10 valves in the St. Mary’s heating system were replaced this past week

completing a much needed summer long project. There should no longer be any banging and clanging during

Mass this fall and winter, and there will be significant savings on our heating bills! Thank you Larry Pakiz

for being the first to get working on this project and for the St. Mary’s Buildings and Grounds committee for

the follow through.

Members of the St. Mary Finance Council and Sacred Worship Committee are studying bids for a new sound

system for the Church. One of the bidders, Audio Architects is setting up a demonstration sound system in

Church for us to use next weekend and the following weekend. And the study process continues for a

possible new organ.

Hard to believe we are at the last week of the summer and Loyal’s Corn Fest and Holy Family’s Parish

Bazaar are upon us next weekend. Please plan now to come Thursday to the annual Corn Fest Ecumenical

Prayer Service as we reflect on the “EarRows” in our lives. This year the service is at St. Anthony’s at

6:30pm. Father Charlie will be covering the 8:30am and 10:30am Sunday morning liturgies so I can preside

at the special 9:30am Mass being celebrated at the Holy Family Bazaar. Their chicken and ham dinner with

all the fixings and homemade Potica begins at 10:30am and serves until 1:30pm in their air-conditioned hall.

Their huge rummage sale runs until 2:00pm.

Lastly we heard from Fr. Joe Arokiam that he did get his driver’s license and is now working on mastering

the twisting and turning roads through the coulee’s of South Western Wisconsin. He sounded very happy and

sends greetings to all. Maybe having spent a long time before getting his license at last….. will make him the

first when it comes to safety and courtesy on the roads.

The master’s words were so true for Seth, Lindsey and Fr. Joe, could they also be true for us? “Some who

are last will be first…..”

Fr. Steve
