“EVERY SAINT HAS A PAST, AND EVERY SINNER HAS A FUTURE.”
The month of November is coming. The days like October 31
st
(Halloween),
November 1
st
(All Saints day), November 2
nd
(All Soul’s Day) are approaching. For
some people this may not be so important to write and talk about Halloween or I may be
wrong in observation. I found in last two years that even our Catholic families and
schools give importance to celebrate Halloween day. Here I want to give importance to
ALL SAINTS day. Because we are all called to be future saints. We have planned to
celebrate All Saints day in our Catholic school Mass on November 1
st
, 9am Mass at St.
Mary’s Church, Greenwood. I consider they are our future saints, so the kids will be
coming dressed like saints. They have picked a saint for each one and done a short research on their saints. I
will insist them to have a saint as a model in their life. Everyone is invited to participate in that special Mass
and to celebrate that we are called to be a future saints of the nation.
Is Halloween nothing more than a gateway to the devil and the occult? The International Association of
Exorcists, back in 2014, announced that it wants to put a stop to the celebration.
In 2014, the Vatican's first ever official conference of exorcists slammed “evil” Halloween and its occult
associations and asked that it be scrapped in favor of “Holyween” where children take part in prayer vigils
and dress up as saints. Four years on, it seems that it didn't take off. However, nowadays Halloween has more
to do with trick-or-treating and dressing up, although not according to the Catholic Church.
Back in 2014, the International Association of Exorcists said they wanted to see Halloween banned due to a
spike in occult activity around the holiday. Father Aldo Buonaiuto said "From here, the door to the devil can
be opened. For this reason, it’s necessary for us to speak out and not play down the danger,"
To try and counteract this, the Catholic Church in Italy has launched “Holyween.” This anti-Halloween
celebration will include Masses, prayer vigils, the celebration of the saints, and the triumph of good over evil.
Pope Francis isn’t the only pope in recent times to try to put a dampener on Halloween fun. In 2009, Pope
Benedict also spoke out against the fall celebrations calling them anti-Christian and dangerous. Even back
then, Bonaiuto, who was then the head of the Catholic Church's anti-occult and sect unit, warned parents that
Halloween “promotes the culture of death.” He said, “Halloween pushes new generations towards a mentality
of esoteric magic and it attacks sacred and spiritual values through a devious initiation to the art and images
of the occult. At best, it gives a big helping hand to consumerism and materialism.”
Month of November is a special month since we remember all our deceased members of our family, at the
same time we don’t forget the unknown and unremembered souls.
I wish and pray for our all future saints. Let us pray for our deceased members of the community and
the forgotten people.
God bless you all, Fr. Leo Johnson

St. Mary LITURGICAL ROLES
Today, with Catholics of the world, we are called to offer, at
this Eucharistic celebration, our prayers and our generous
financial support, through The Society for the Propagation
of the Faith, to continue the mission of Jesus. Today we
“speak up” through our prayers and personal sacrifices for
our brothers and sisters in the Missions. As little as..$25
helps support a catechist for a month in Latin America..$75
provides for the work of religious Sisters in Africa ..$100
assists children in schools in Asia.
As always, your prayers are your most treasured gift to the
Missions. Your prayers and financial help, offered today,
WORLD MISSION SUNDAY, support mission priests, re-
ligious Sisters and Brothers, and lay catechists who are
Christ’s witnesses to a world so in need of His healing love
and peace.
