Judging by the very busy activity in classrooms last week, I am sure many

mothers in the Adelaide Hills felt the love on Sunday! We hope it was a

great day for you.

Loving Father in heaven,

we thank you for the love of the mothers you have given us,

whose love is so precious that it can never be measured in dollars and

cents,

whose time does not seem to be measured in the hours they put in per

week,

whose patience seems to have no end and can even seem to stretch past

breaking point.

May we see your loving hand behind them and guiding them.

We pray for those mothers who fear they will run out of love, or time, or

patience,

and ask you to bless them with your own special love and the gifts of more

time and more patience.

And we pray for children and fathers, that they may appreciate, love and

support their mothers and wives.

We ask this in the name of Jesus.

CAR-PARK KISS and DROP and PICKUP

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate parents (and

grandparents!) on their thoughtful driving, their patience and courtesy

shown during drop-off and more specifically, pick-up. While St Mark’s car-

park has its limitations, your willingness to follow procedure ensures the

system works very well - by any standard of comparison with other car-park

systems I have seen. Monday’s stormy weather certainly tested all of us,

but I was pleased to see that cooperation and courtesy, once again,

come to the fore.

MORNINGS - Before School

Families are reminded that before school all students, whether on their own

or accompanied by an adult are to congregate outside the Year 5

classrooms until 8.35am, at which time the teacher on duty will invite

students in through the common entry. It would be greatly appreciated if

all students and parents follow this protocol. Please do not wait outside

other classrooms before school, as these areas are not supervised at this

time

There may be occasions when a student is late to school - because of the

way attendance data is collected, it is imperative that all students arriving

at school after 8.50am come in through the front office and are signed in

by their supervising adult. Your cooperation in this is greatly appreciated.

Last Thursday, the Year 6 students planned and took part in a Multicultural lunch to bring their History unit on Migration to an end. Throughout this unit they had explored the many different reasons why people migrate to Australia, who has migrated to Australia and the influence that migrants have had on Australia. During the lunch experience they had a multicultural menu which included Kartoffelpuffers (potato cakes), Chinese fried rice and a Brown Betty. To add to the feel of a multicultural experience, the students sat in the traditional Japanese seating arrangement and followed Japanese customs. They also participated in some Indian entertainment, Bollywood dancing and had Indian music playing while they ate. The room was decorated with both Japanese and Mexican decorations. Through this unit, students were able to appreciate the hardships migrants and refugees have gone through to create a better life for themselves in Australia and just how lucky we are to now live in such a vibrant, multicultural nation.

Year 6 Multicultural Lunch

Camp Australia

Many families at St Mark’s will be familiar with Camp Australia - our before and after school care

program. Coordinator Sam, along with Nadia work tirelessly to provide our families with a high

quality service that meshes in seamlessly with St Mark’s. Service providers, including before and

after school care, vacation care and early learning centres come under regular scrutiny, and

need to meet a number of clearly set out markers that apply across Australia.

Our service is doing well and has me and continues to meet these stringent National Quality

Standards. In fact, in two of the areas - programming and relationships - our Camp Australia

program achieved an ‘exceeding’ rating. Not only do we know our service if terrific, it has

been externally assessed to be so. And so, on behalf of the St Mark’s school community we

would like to congratulate Camp Australia and its staff on the wonderful work they do, with

special mention of Sam and Nadia. Thank you.

BOOK CLUB

Book Club order forms will be coming home this week. Orders and

payment need to be in by Thursday 19th May.

Are you missing an order from last term? We have an order

without a name for a set of Pony Pals books. If they belong to you

please come and see me in the Library.

JAFFA Junior Youth is starting up again for another fun filled term! This youth group is open for

children in Years 5-8 and will run once a month all year round. With the Church redevelopment

that is underway for about half or the year JAFFA will mostly be using the school facilities (oval,

hall, courts, library).

There are registration forms for new families to complete upon arrival to any event. Also this

year I please ask for RSVP’s for each event so I can get an idea of numbers for catering, sup-

plies and know how many ChildSafe trained people to have at each event.

PIONEER WOMEN’S TRAIL WALK

Take up the challenge of walking in the footsteps of the pioneers and join us on this historic walk, 36 years since the first re-enactment. A donation of $15 pp applies from any of the four starting locations.
