Epiphany House Blessing From Germany comes the Catholic custom of blessing your home each year. For this blessing you’ll need some blessed chalk, or any chalk will do during these COVID times. (You can also use holy water, or water that has not been blessed because of COVID.) The family gathers for the main blessing outside the front door of the house, and then goes through the various rooms. Front Door Leader: O God, the entire universe is not large enough to contain you, and yet you desire to dwell with us. Bless this home. May our door always be open wide to receive you and all who need love and companionship. May our door be narrow enough to shut out pride, envy and strife. All: AMEN! (Leader now uses chalk to write this over the front door: + C + M + B + The crosses represent Jesus in all things. The let-ters represent the names of the three Magi (Caspar, Melchor, Balthasar … and they also stand for “Christus Mansionem Bene-dicat”: Latin for “May Christ bless this house.”) Living room Where two or three are gathered, you are there. Bless this room, O Lord. ALL: AMEN! Kitchen You give us our daily bread. Bless this room, O Lord. ALL: AMEN! Dining room Prepare us for the feast of heaven. Bless this room, O Lord. ALL: AMEN! Bedrooms Bathroom Stay with us Lord, when night is here. Keep us pure in your sight. Bless this room, O Lord. ALL: AMEN! Bless this room, O Lord. ALL: AMEN! All return to the front door to pray together. Leader: Let us pray as Jesus taught us: Our Father… The leader sprinkles all present with holy water and concludes: Bless this household through all days to come, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, forever and ever. ALL: AMEN!

As me and space allows, Fr. Mike’s “Note from the Administrator” space will be given to the other 10 people on our parish staff. They were asked how this pandemic has affected them…

    1. What you do in the parish, how has your job changed since March.

Funeral planning is one of my main ministries in the Parish, as well as charitable outreach and office support. My job changed since March of this year at the beginning of the pandemic, when we were not able to have funerals in the church at all. This was very difficult,

because we could not assist our grieving families with funeral Masses. Thank God now we are able to have Masses in the school field with some restric ons.

    2. What is a hidden blessing you have found in this situa on.

A hidden blessing that I found during this pandemic is that I was able to explore nature more and appre-ciate what God has created for us that some mes it is taken for granted.

    3. What is something you found to help you to keep going during these hard mes.

My faith and my family is what has helped me during these hard mes.

With Covid is might be tough to ask your teens to spend extra me on Zoom to meet with the youth ministry. However, during this crisis it might be the best sugges on ever. Here’s why: 1. Teenagers need models and mentors. Of course you as a parent are called to be the primary spiriutal mentor of your own teenager but he/she also needs other godly adults! It's important for your son or daughter to see that this whole "Chris anity thing" is more than just mom's and dad's belief system. They need to have models and mentors that reinforce all of the spiritual truth they are learning from you. 2. Teenagers need community. "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up mee ng together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." Hebrews 10:24,25 In an age of bullying, gossip, slander and hatefulness young people need other young people who can li them up, encourage them and challenge them in all the right ways. 3. Teenagers need mission. Youth group is a place where your teenager can invite their unbelieving friends to hear the gospel. But it's also a place where they can be equipped to share the good news of Jesus with their own peers (which will help them grow in their faith!) 4. Teenagers need theology. "Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church." Ephesians 4:14,15 Youth group is a place where teenagers can wrestle through the theology you've been teaching them and have it reinforced in a powerful and personal way under the guidance of a youth leader who knows how to ask great ques ons and point teens to sound truth. 5. Teenagers need a safe place to confess and confide. "Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed." James 5:16 O en teenagers who struggle with sin and tempta on have nowhere to confess and confide. They feel trapped by their sins. But a healthy youth ministry can create a safe space for teenagers to open up and talk honestly about their struggles. Of course this doesn't mean they should confess every sin to everyone. But it does mean that they should have a handful of others who know their struggles and can pray for and encourage them to walk in victory over those sins.

When my son came back from a youth retreat last year he had this opportunity. He opened up with a handful of others about some of his struggles and then he came back and opened up to me. A er he confessed his struggles he told me that he felt a thousand pound weight had dropped off his back. Adapted from a blog “Paren ng Godly Teenagers”
