6th Sunday in Ordinary Time February 12, 2017

St. Francis Borgia, Washington, MO #242400

Notes from Fr. Joe Wormek

As we are in the midst of this ordinary me we are learning about the disciples and their forma on and Jesus preaching and teaching. We have had the be-

a tudes, salt and light and now this weekend about Jesus talking about the old precepts and teaching in a new way. They are all a reminder for us to con nue to form our lives to the Gospel and the teaching of Jesus. It is also a good me for us to start thinking about what we want to do during Lent, and what might be most beneficial in our lives. Ash Wednesday is March 1 which is 17 days away. It does not hurt for us to plan ahead.

If you were not here last weekend, then you may not know that I am currently in New Zealand visi ng my cousin who is a priest there. I am also traveling with another cousin. In doing a li le research, I learned that we had the same great grandparents. It certainly is a small world.

Thanks again for all you do!

Your Pastor,

Fr. Joe Wormek

Steward Reflection

“For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Phari-

sees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:20

The scribes and Pharisees lived according to the le er of the law and

they used this to elevate themselves above the other people. Jesus is

clear – it’s the love that you have in your heart that will get you to

heaven. Simply following church rules out of obliga on, not love,

does not put you on the path to heaven. A ending Mass on Sunday

and then gossiping about a fellow parishioner on the parking lot is an

example of a modern day Pharisee.

Prayer Before Mass

Come Holy Spirit and quiet my heart and my head, as I gather with my friends and neigh-bors to celebrate Mass. I am saint and sin-ner. Open my ears to Your words. Open my mouth in prayer and song. Open my eyes to

see your mystery in symbol and sign. Open my heart in love for You and my neighbor. Quiet the thoughts and distrac ons that will keep me from prayer. Strengthen me to take the Mass into my life this week. Amen.

People believe that It Takes Three to Five Years to Get an Annulment.

The truth is that every annulment is different, and some processes

are longer than others, but few cases ever take more than 18 months

from start to finish. Decades ago, it did take several years, but today

the longest process is usually finished in 9 to 18 months. Some cases

can be finished in a month or even less. It is wrong to state that the

typical marriage annulment takes three years or more to complete.
